Ok, I know this is not going to come across well but I'm not really that impressed with a 4th grader going down a ski jump. Between 2nd and 9th grade. I really did not know much fear. Really, none of the kids I hung out with did. Scraps, cuts and bruises were badges of we had fun. Hell at the little clinic/Doc's office in the area almost all of us knew the doctors and nurses on a first name bases. The 9th grade was the big learning experience. Misjudged a table top jump that went in to a 40 foot drop in to a bowl.(BMX) I personally do not remember what happened but what I was told is I clipped a tree, spun, bounced off several more, went through a heavy thicket of dead wood 30 something feet in to a dried up creek. I woke up 2 weeks later and was told I had had a compound fracture left arm, broken collar bone, punctured lung and broken ankle. I'll tell you I damn well learned to fear after that. But, then Got a car not to long after that and forgot everything had to learn fear again. Of course the hard way.

But the POV camera was cool.

I understand that with some fairly minor surgery to their tounges, crows can be taught to mimic. They are also one of the only other animals than man who seem use tools. Such as using a stick to get at something in a hole.

Lobbying is a good thing.
Many years ago I was a member of a successful, grassroots organization which hired a full time lobbyist to talk to state legislators.
Lobbying is not inherently evil.
What is needed is to enforce the existing laws against bribing public officials and re-enact the laws against immoral campaign contributions BRIBES.
Getting rid of Super-PAC's would be an excellent start.
I also really like the Canadian laws against paid political commercials.



Sure, the big money lobbyists are the problem now--because they get away with bribery. Enforce the existing laws--re-enact the laws which were repealed (by lawmakers bought and paid for)--and nail shut the revolving door for congresspeople and staff who move to lobbying positions (Gingrich and Dodd).

But, If lobbying itself is gone how will you be able to talk to your representatives? By email?

The system--as it stands now--is a heaping pile of festering shit. Many people need to go to jail over it. But, that doesn't mean the good parts of the system (which have been captured by the Industrial/Military/Bank/Corporation complex) should be completely scrapped--just fixed.

The Christie Pits riot occurred on 16 August 1933 at the Christie Pits (Willowvale Park) playground in Toronto, Canada. The riot can only be understood in the context of the anti-semitism, Swastika clubs and parades and resentment of "foreigners" in Toronto, and the rise of Hitler and the Nazis in Germany in 1933.[1]

The riot, which lasted six hours, broke out after a quarter-final baseball game at Christie Pits Park between two local clubs, Harbord Playground, predominantly Jewish, and St. Peter's, a baseball team sponsored by a church at Bathurst and Bloor.[2]

The riot occurred soon after Adolf Hitler took power in Germany and in the midst of the Great Depression. The Toronto papers, including the Telegram and the Toronto Star, as well as the Yiddish journal, Der Yiddisher Zhurnal, reported on how Jews were being dismissed as lawyers, professors, teachers, etc. in Germany, as well as incidents of violence against them. Thus to Jews the swastika represented degradation and physical violence against Jews, and was inflammatory.[3]

At that time, the Jewish community in Toronto was predominantly poor and working class. They were also the subject of discrimination and were excluded from summer resorts outside of the city. Jewish families and youths in particular would therefore cool off during the hot summer months by staying in town and going to the predominantly Anglo Beaches area in order to swim. Some of the locals formed "Swastika Clubs", which openly displayed the Nazi symbol to express their displeasure and make Jews feel unwanted.[4] The leaders of the Swastika Club initially insisted that the swastika had nothing to do with Hitler. The night of the riot was the second game between Harbord and St. Peter's. Two nights earlier, at the first game of the series, a swastika had been displayed. Walrus pups orphaned, war, wars over water, water bills double, water supply unreliability, water scarcity (20% of increase), water stress, weather out of its mind, weather patterns awry, weeds, Western aid cancelled out, West Nile fever, whales move north, wheat yields crushed in Australia, white Christmas dream ends, wildfires, wind shift, wind reduced, wine - harm to Australian industry, wine industry damage (California), wine industry disaster (US), wine - more English, wine -German boon, wine - no more French , winters in Britain colder, wolves eat more moose, wolves eat less, workers laid off, World bankruptcy, World in crisis, Yellow fever.

What "reform"? If by reform you mean quickly firing the incompetent, scrapping useless and conflicting regulations, utilizing common sense and reducing costs because funds are limited, then forget it. Boondoggles via these government agencies NEVER go away, and both sides are all too eager to create more and more of them.

There is no doubt some good done by a FEMA, but likely at the expense of better or greater results by something or someone else whose services are actually held accountable.

The other day I was ranting that my fat cat (30 pounds) was bringing me crappy tributes lately. For example, just some fur and tail of mice laying at my front door. He thinks thats OK to eat the entire thing and bring me scraps???

Anyway yesterday he brought me an entire bunny. And his head. In a few piles. I have never seen my cat look so satisfied either.

It's only been about 6 months for me, but I'm still using my iPad 2 heavily - can't see that changing in a year. Definitely not a perfect device but pretty damn useful for Kindle, movies, web browsing and games. I'm typing on it now.>> ^spoco2:

As far as I'm concerned (And I have three tablets in my desk at work, an iPad1, and iPad2 and a Xoom, and I write apps for them), they're all useless lumps really. I have zero desire to have one. My thoughts are pretty much exactly as per this Engadget article
The sad thing is that Microsoft had the design and functionality damn spot on with their Courier device. THAT, with the stylus and interface/note taking etc. etc. really WOULD have been a useful device. Something that would have replaced the stack of notepads I have at work.
But no, they scrapped it
I don't care how huge this tablet market currently is, what I'd like to know is how many people are regularly using theirs a year after getting it...
