I admit, after all this time, I never knew that! >> ^seltar:
The kids channel also needs a better way to make sure people are posting a video FOR kids, not OF kids.

Not REALLY sifters' fault. The operator(s) of the channel could take a couple minutes and actually make a difference with that couple minutes by jotting down a respectable description.

Lord tunderin' jesus I've suggested this life changing move a couple times. TO A COUPLE PEOPLE.

It's not just kids of this generation. I'm in my mid-thirties. The past few women I've been involved with have been age appropriate and all have been obsessive texters. But not great conversationalists. There is a constant conversation which seems civil because of the partially asynchronous nature of texting. But then in person, I can't seem to get through more than one sentence without being interrupted about 75% of the time with any woman who is a big texter. Conversely, the best listeners have been those averse to technology (but I haven't had a gf like that in about six years).

The Great Porn Experiment: TEDxGlasgow, Gary Wilson

spoco2 says...

@gwiz665 My point isn't that porn is bad and people who view it should feel bad about it. I really do have no issue with respectful porn in moderation. My issue is that if you do a search for porn these days, or go to youporn or anything like that, then 90% of the top stuff is just so derogatory towards women. Women gagging on dicks to the point of almost throwing up, women having their mouths pulled open, women drinking cum from glasses, bukakke, being held down and viscously rammed... this seems to be the norm now. The norm seems to be to treat women as objects. And damn those women better have big fake tits, a bald vagina, and be fine with ass to mouth.

My issue is that the porn is 'just there' now, and for single people, it'll get used a lot, and it DOES start shaping their tastes and expectations in regards to sex. The fact that sites like this even have a need to exist, shows that porn is shaping people's attitudes towards sex and women far more than it should be.

My wife and I do actually still occasionally watch porn together, carefully selected stuff that is not degrading, but just shows couples seemingly actually enjoying sex together. And as an occasional thing, it's great.

Trying to teach kids that porn is just movies and not real is just the same as movies really. Until their old enough to really process the difference between reality and make believe, until they get those critical thinking abilities, it doesn't matter how much you tell them that something isn't real. If they see it, it will affect them. So yes, I will definitely be teaching them about how the stuff in porn should never be looked on as a way to treat women (or be treated for my daughter), but I don't want them even seeing it until they're much older and can actually process it properly anyway.

Over sexualisation of our kids is a huge problem now. 3 year old girls being given high heel shoes for birthdays (as our daughter was, and we've promptly put them deep in the dress up basket), having 'role models' like Katy 'spit' Perry informing their self view. It's shit, and is not letting kids just be kids. And too many parents we see just go along with it. Let their 3 year olds dance and sing along to music videos showing women being treated as sex objects, and little more.

What this talk shows is that there is a physical effect of watching porn as much as people do now. You can put it down to weak will power, but when it's there at a click, whenever you want it, it's a problem. And it really is changing how people have sex. I've watched numerous talks where porn tropes like cumming on the woman's face, or ass to mouth, or any number of those things that only really make sense in the world of porn, are becoming things which men and women think are expected of them, or are the 'normal' way to have sex. That's a problem, because it's taking the focus away from two people getting hugely turned on and having great sex and being more like sex that looks good when being watched by someone else.

RH Reality Check: Contraception Access For Youth

swedishfriend says...

Music and arts are probably more important than math or history when it comes to developing critical and creative thinking skills. Healthy sex is as important as eating and sleeping and are all very important to memory function, logic, problem-solving, etc. You seem to think sex is so different from other human activities but it isn't. Categorizing things into social and non-social doesn't apply here since a major function of schools is to teach kids social skills so that they can be productive members of society.

99% of success in life depends on social skills. Right now the best and the brightest are not accomplishing anything because they are too shy or messed up by their history to use their abilities to the fullest.

Oh and condoms are a tool used in forging the mind. Sex is one of the most powerful forces that drives our beings so of course tools and knowledge regarding this major part of our lives is important.

Your version of schooling has never been and hopefully never will be. Please check out some of the research that is out there. There has been much talk the last few years about the serious problems caused by removing music and art programs from schools for example.

Sex isn't something that is happening in school

Translation: I NEVER HAD SEX IN SCHOOL! ...or since

Blah, way to be a jerk and not stay on topic.
I shall be a little more clear with what I am saying as I think my message got lost in peoples spin on doing the hibbidy dibidy all the live long day.
Books, teachers, science labs, paper, pens, are part of the education process provided by the state. Having sex in the middle of the class is not. While sex education is a must, having sex in school is not on the curiculum as far as the state should be involved in. IE, condoms are not a pen, a book or any other tool used in forging the mind.
Like some have pointed out (tackfully unlike the nice person above), sex is part of the natural social evolution of a person. Right, but that isn't the focus of the classroom. Schools are for classes and expanding your mind, that is what the state is supposed to be providing. I have problem no problem with my taxes going to books and pens and things that are developing the young minds of tomorrow. But I have a problem with my tax dollars sponcering another childs sex life and/or other social, non-education things (recreational sex is not educational sex . I would be just as against schools providing some sort of free music program on the government dime on the logic that music is needed for a well devolped social mind.
I also don't preach ignorance or being unprepaired, I am just against paying for it on the government ticket. Schools shouldn't be in the business of providing anything but education. If someone can show me how a condom is an education device, besides maybe just learning how to put one on, then I will be convinced, otherwise, it is the school system trying to be more than it is roled to be. This isn't a night club, this is a school. Sex may happen on campus, that is not what I was saying at all, what I am saying is that is the subject of social interaction and not the domain of the school to provide materials for out of our tax budget. Once again, if someone can show how a condom is like a pen (hahaha don't go there), then I'll be more adpt to listen, but so far it seems like "ehh why not" kinda arguments? Perhaps I misunderstood yall as much as yall did me
And if they are just giving them away, then it should be avalible for all citizens everywhere, not just kids...and I would be against funding my fellow americans sex needs in the same way I am against this
Thanks everyone for your respectful comments...minus one

Bullied Bus Monitor Taunted By Kids

legacy0100 says...

Kids aren't mature enough to wholeheartedly welcome people who is different from them. They have nothing common with this lady other than the fact that she's riding a bus with them, which casts her as an outsider.

I'm also guessing the school spent very little money educating kids on bullying, nor did they spend the money to properly train this poor woman from such abuse. It's not that kids are terrible, it's the horrible lack of support these people got from their school.

Both the kids and the school monitor should have been trained on these kinds of issues, but responsibility mostly falls on the adult. Kids are brutal. Their prefrontal cortex isn't developed well enough to monitor their own social behaviors and impulses. They literally cannot stop themselves from being brutal, and it is upto the adult to know how to handle the situation. You have to be authoritative; gentle yet firm. The poor woman showed none of these traits and just took everything on as it came at her. She let things happen to her; a typical bully victim.

All in all, I just would like to say that these aren't some demonic kids from hell. They're just kids, and the lady should have received proper training from the school when she was hired to do the job.

Economy is best form of birth control.

rbar says...

All of Europe also has low birtrates.

Low birthrate is not the main issue as the total population is still growing due to people getting older. If you try to solve the 4-2-1 problem by having more kids, the total population will keep growing at a much stronger rate as we are still getting older and older. Which means you need more kids again, more people again and the issue just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

The issue is the amount of people in total is exploding. The solution should be sought in finding a balance. Not more kids, but the right amount of kids vs the amount we are growing older. That means getting less kids then we have today, even in Western countries. On top of that we need to look at the world, not just at isolated regions. Economic prosperity can help those regions find more sustainable birth rates as well. So us helping them economically will help us in the end not overpopulating this planet.

Shout out to anyone planning on playing Guild Wars 2 (Videogames Talk Post)

berticus says...

@my15minutes and I are both GW1 veterans. Thousands, and thousands, and thousands of hours. I would love nothing more than to lose myself in GW2, but I'm terrified it will jeopardise my PhD because of my lack of self-control. (I'm not even kidding, I'm actually very worried.)

GW1 was nothing short of amazing. Perhaps what is not known quite so well about GW1 though, is that it had intensely competitive, challenging, and satisfying PvP. (See here for an example from one of the best guilds ever [rawr] -- probably hard to follow if you don't know GW.)

GW2 looks spectacular too.

Fuck. FSM help me, I'm so screwed.
