It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia - Unless You're This Guy

You sound like a real connoisseur of comedy. Dice is top ten of all time, and not just for that nursery rhyme stuff, which I never liked. (and I'm not talking about top ten most successful... top ten most talented).
>> ^spoco2:
Most people don't like just abusive comedy, we don't.
Sure, there's got to be some market for it, otherwise Andrew Dice Clay, with his complete lack of talent, wouldn't have become famous for just insulting people... but generally? Not going to happen.
You point me to ONE performance of his that is actually funny. Like, is AT ALL clever. AT ALL witty. AT ALL insightful.
You can go blue in the face ranting about the size of the stadium shows he used to do, but none of it is ever good comedy. It's not. He's not top ten of all time in any terms of 'good comedy'. It's all base, all simplistic, none of it is good. He's just not funny.
Now, me not finding him funny doesn't make him not so to many, but he is also not top ten of talent in anything.

I like how you're speaking for "we" and "the sift". Eh. I like Burr... I actually prefer his podcast, because he just riffs. He's amazing at that... and it's not much like this vid.
Also, there's this: Bill Burr on The Moth which is probably the point I started paying attention to him.
In the most loving way possible, and in the words of Burr himself, Go fuck yourself!
>> ^spoco2:
@Deano "Everyone who has ever heard this realises what a talent Burr is and an underappreciated one at that"
Um, no they don't. I didn't, it would seem the majority of the sift didn't. Look, you find him funny, you find this bit funny, others did too. But don't be surprised that most won't.
And, I'm checking out some of his stuff on youtube... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imZ52DHBtug misogynistic crap, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Dybby26QnU More woman hating.
This I like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h5kg5f8Im0
This is amusing until it gets to the part from the video two back that's just more women hating shit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3OkaJnlWFQ
So yeah, he can be funny. But you know what? Most people don't like just abusive comedy, we don't.
Sure, there's got to be some market for it, otherwise Andrew Dice Clay, with his complete lack of talent, wouldn't have become famous for just insulting people... but generally? Not going to happen.
And again, when it comes to something being sifted, if it's terrible quality, people are less inclined to listen to it, and if there needs to be context given to it for it to suddenly become funny, well that's against it too.

A number of classes and you are able to fire things in the kiln. I just want to get some clay and work it and get it fired. Pay'em 50 dollars or whatnot, they will not do it. I can understand, they would have too many people wanting the service, they are not a big shop from what I can tell.
Elitist assholes.

Maybe you had to see the movies? The Girl With trilogy?
I haven't seen them. I also didn't think this was particularly funny, but I figured it was because of not knowing the references.

So at what point was that funny?
Wow, really? Nothing?
Comedy is a funny thing isn't it (ha ha... pun very much intended)?
For instance. Andrew Dice Clay. I have never, ever, EVER seen a single thing he's done that would even slightly move me to laughter, and yet he sold out stadium shows. I SO don't get how he is funny. And yet people do (or at least did).
But people do find it funny.
Same with this, I found it to be quite hilarious, and yet you can't see the humour in it.
Strange.

robot crawling, homes no longer safe
I read about this the other day:
http://news.yahoo.com/gumby-flexible-robot-crawls-tight-spaces-200129817.html
excerpt:
Harvard scientists have built a new type of flexible robot that is limber enough to wiggle and worm through tight spaces.
It's the latest prototype in the growing field of soft-bodied robots. Researchers are increasingly drawing inspiration from nature to create machines that are more bendable and versatile than those made of metal.
The Harvard team, led by chemist George M. Whitesides, borrowed from squids, starfish and other animals without hard skeletons to fashion a small, four-legged rubber robot that calls to mind the clay animation character Gumby.
Paul McCarthy: "Captain Ballsack" | "Exclusive" | Art21
I swear, at 1:40, she realizes, "Hey... this guy is full of shit."
Two years of throwing globs of clay at a wire skeleton with fishing net floats... Wow. I thought politics was easy money...
Vittorio Costantini - Fantastic Glass Master
>> ^Lann:
I find glass to be much more expensive. Then again, it depends on what you mean by "smithing" if you are talking about a blacksmithing studio then yeah a small lampworking set up will be cheaper but still more expensive than the basic start up tools for metalsmithing. Glassblowing however is extremely expensive requiring an annealer, glory hole (no not THAT kind for you dirty minds), and a furnace that runs all the time so it takes a great amount of glass. Coldworking tools are also very expensive. It is understandable why studio cost for glass students are always WAY higher than for metals students.
>> ^Porksandwich:
Glass and smithing are two things I'd like to at least say I'd made something from, even if they looked like crap. Glass is probably the bigger one because it's something you could more likely do at home and on a lower budget. But they are both one of those things where I think you need a apprenticeship in to keep from doing stupid things that could potentially kill or maim you bad enough to screw you up for life.
Honestly don't know enough about either to say one way or another. Glass seemed like it would be cleaner and something you could do without a full production setup, where as blacksmithing would be something you have to go full bore on to do anything worthwhile.
I know they have some metal like substances people use for jewelry and such now that only require a small oven. They are like some kind of clay-ish substance that you mold by hand how you want then bake it to get the metal like look. And I may even be half informed on that as well.
Although I can think of one type of glass creation that I've always wanted to make and keep, where you find a beach and stick a metal rod into the sand to capture the lightning formation as it heats up the sand to glass at the end of the lightning rod. Nothing really man created about it, just kind of coaxed.
Is God Good?
1. Adam and Eve had a limited knowledge of good and evil by what God had informed them about..they knew enough to know it was wrong to disobey God.
2. God isn't merely good, like He is living up to some sort of standard. He is goodness itself. So when I call God good, I am not judging His character, I am describing it. I call God good because that is what He is, inherently. I am, like you, incapable of judging God, but I can describe Him. It's not a value judgement, it's really the definition of what good is and where it comes from.

Sorry acidspine, I missed your question here.
1: When God created Adam and Eve, they were created in a state of innocence. The creation at that point was declared by God to be good. So Adam and Eve enjoyed a fellowship with God without any contamination of evil. However, God had to offer them a choice. If He didn't, they would have no more than puppets. He desired a loving relationship with them, but it would not be love if they had no choice. God wanted them to choose love and trust Him. The only way to give them a choice would be to command something that was not allowed.
So He gave them one rule, not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Satan was allowed to tempt them, saying that God was a liar and that the knowledge of good and evil would be a good thing, and that they would even be equal to God. The knowledge was this; to know the difference between good and evil. Before they gained this knowledge, they relied on God to tell them the difference. They enjoyed a state of innocence because of this. God wished them to be free of evil and to teach them step by step. They decided to betray God, however, and believe the devil..and when they ate of the fruit, the knowledge of evil brought to them fear and shame. Their innocent relationship with God was ruined. Their corruption meant they could no longer enjoy direct fellowship with God, so He cast them out of the garden. They also lost their immortality and began to die. Their sin brought death into the world. Obviously, it wasn't a good thing.
2: Well, first, all human beings are hypocrites. God is perfect and Holy. Ultimate justice could only be decided by a perfect being..all else would be hypocripsy and injustice. So our judgement will always be imperfect and unjust. If God broke His own laws, yes we could point the finger at Him. If He broke even one, it would mean He was imperfect and unqualified to judge us. We however are stained by our sins. It isn't rare to have broken almost every commandment even at a young age. If a murderer pointed the finger at you because he didnt like your behavior, would you take him seriously? God said if we even hate anyone we have committed murder in our hearts. So, pointing the finger at God when we ourselves are stained by sin is fairly ridiculous. We are born into this world with nothing, and life is a gift, but somehow we feel entitled to say God owes us something, as if God is our debtor. With sin on our minds, and corruption in our hearts, we say to God..what right have you to judge us! Well, He has every right..He is sovereign over His creation.
Isaiah 29:15-16
Woe to those who go to great depths to hide their plans from the LORD, who do their work in darkness and think, "Who sees us? Who will know?"
You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay! Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, "He did not make me"? Can the pot say of the potter, "He knows nothing"?

Hey shiny, I know you like evangelasing so I have two simple questions for you that shouldn't take much time to answer. Here goes
1. What was the knowledge Adam and Eve supposedly gained by eating the forbidden fruit?
2. As human beings are we capable of judging god's moral character?
As a sweetener, if you answer both questions succinctly I will upvote this vid re-sifting it as it were (unless the recent downvote didn't remove a star point in which case I have nothing to offer)
Thats ok
I'll be breif. Your answer to the first question was that in the bible Adam and Eve gained knowledge of good and evil after eating the fruit. But if they had no knowledge of good and evil how would they know doing the wrong thing was bad?
I'm not really sure that you answered the second question but I will just say if I'm not allowed to judge god as (non-existant) evil then you aren't allowed to judge him as good.
Thanks for the reply

Earthshaking Japan video compilation-ground moving underfoot
yeah that is true. In a dangerous, weird situtation, people have a tendency to instantly bond with anyone else around. You can definitely see the result of human evolution in that.
Also, terrain liquifaction scares the shit out me. I live in an area where the underground is said to be very clay-like, and we have canals in the middle of the city. Thankfully this is not a quake-prone area. I can shiver at the damage a higher intensity quake would do to us.
