Michael Moore on Afghanistan: Get Out and Apologize

bcglorf says...

I've got to hand it to Michael Moore, just when you think he can't say or do anything dumber, he finds a way to go further.

If you want to find a meaningful documentary about the strategic importance of Afghanistan start by throwing out every last one that doesn't spend 90% of it's time on Pakistan. Why do all the idiot boy talking heads like Moore(and his equally stupid Republican counterparts) insist on acting like the greatest prize in the war is the desolate wastelands of Afghanistan itself? Here's a newsflash for everyone, American throne makers NEVER cared about control of the deserts of Afghanistan!

Here's what they did care about, the stability and reliability of the government of Pakistan and it's nuclear arsenal. That's the game. Before the war, Al-Qaeda and it's Taliban jihadist allies were spread from Islamabad to Kabul, with strong ties and connections to the governments all along the way. After 9/11, America's highest policy makers decided that Pakistan's official fence sitting between support for those that bombed New York and those that died there was no longer acceptable. Musharraf was given an ultimatum, them or us, and he was given an example of the consequences of siding with them when the Taliban chose them. Since then, Pakistan has been waging an internal war against the Taliban militants rather than openly supporting them. Their war is a direct mirror of the war in Afghanistan against the same opponents.

I'd absolutely love to see Moore try and explain why we should apologize for fighting the same forces responsible for killing the first and only elected female head of a Muslim state. I'm sure her widow, now leading Pakistan, would be so glad to receive a delegation of Moore and his film crew there to apologize to him for our solidarity with the cause his wife died for. Disgusting.

If Fox "News" Channel wanted to report actual news they'd be directly involved with local stations.

Every major market has a local FOX station with a local FOX News broadcast from a local FOX affiliate. The local stations all have local news shows, and in prime time they broadcast a 'national' news show. The rest of their programming is filled with entertainment, drama, comedy, etc... You are going to have to explain exactly how what FOX is doing is any different than what the other big-3 channels are doing if you are going to have any kind of discussion here.

Cable news is a whole different animal. They roll 24/7 and constantly mix commentary, opinion and 'news' all together in one big hodge-podge. Cable news is a wasteland of poor quality, slap-dash drive-through journalism, and carnival barkers. That includes MSNBC and CNN as well as FOX.

Nonetheless, to say because CNN and MSNBC aren't true journalist networks either - and then somehow lump in everyother news outlet

Here you start entering a realm of personal interpretation where bias and opinion dictate what is or isn't a 'lie'. I would say that CNN, MSNBC, and FOX news all 'lie' in the sense that they present stilted, biased information and pretend it is 'news'. Cable news is awful that way. The stuff on the affiliates is more staid, but bias creeps in there as well though it is not so blatant or volumetric.

...It's okay for Fox News to straight up LIE, doctor pictures, and rally the neo con fringe into such a frenzy that they kill police officers and ob/gyns is a terrible argument. They lie, cheat, purposely exaggerate, shout down their interviewees, endorse violence, war, racism, bigotry and outright hatred of anything not stamped 'Fox Approved'. They then attempt to call themselves fair and balanced.. and try to sue you if you say otherwise.

You see - here is where I have a hard time taking you seriously. I see no distinction between what FOX (cable) News does, and the stuff on MSNBC & CNN. They're both filled with opinions and bias of such a polarizing caliber that it is impossible to consider any of them to be 'news' so much as 'infotainment'. But you are saying FOX is somehow in a different realm and I can only ascribe that position to your own personal bias. Every fault you lay at FOX News' feet can be applied with equal accuracy to CNN or MSNBC. But some of your stuff is clearly hyperbole and not meant to be taken seriously.

But if you consider yourself an objective viewer/citizen you'd realize that not only is Fox "News" extremely bias in it's "reporting" it's hurtful to the greater public interest of unity and honesty.

Uh - on what exact planet does 'public interest of unity & honesty' outweigh the right to freedom of speech? I find every single news channel to be hurtful to the greater public interest. I would love to strip them all of their ability to communicate anything except dry, basic facts. But freedom comes with strings attatched, and you take the good with the bad. Tell me - is your opinion of FOX such that you would advocate shutting it down, but leaving CNN & MSNBC alone? Does that not indicate a rather biased approach?

TDS: CNN Leaves It There

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

Sometimes JS swerves into something. Here is one of them. Modern news is a wasteland. But to be fair - it is was impossible to have 'all the people behind you' check the health care bill's actual facts because the bill hasn't been WRITTEN YET. There are several phantom bills in congress which are in the process of being written, rewritten, and getting the #$%^ ammended out of them. I'd love to see a news agency tackle THAT, but that would require them to get off their butts and leave the studio and Lord forbid a journalist actually goes out & does some work for a change...

"WE'RE SCREWED" - Special Edition NY Post Stuns New Yorkers

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

winston , no there has not been a period since we have been able to measure it , or in ANY historical sample that has carbon ppm as high as it is now . That's in 400,000 years.

Go back further. This is one of the key problems with the many flawed "global warming" models that people are trying to pass off as science. Why only look 400,000 years back? If you are going to do a comprehensive analysis then you have to look at the entire record. Cenozoic, Mesozoic, Paleozoic... In the past, atmosphereic C02 levels have been as high as 4,000+ PPM. TEN TIMES the current measley 380 PPM. When you look at the whole record, our current C02 levels are at a very low point.

Now - the way global warming alarmists discuss C02 you would think that at 10X the C02 levels our planet would be a wasteland of acidified oceans, baking deserts, and inhospitable wastes. Pht. Those periods of time were points where earth had far greater variety in plant and animal life and far more of earth's surface could sustain life. So why are global warming alarmists so all-fired paranoid about the relatively tiny increase from the LOW point of 280 PPM to a miniscule 390 PPM?

The only thing that is political in this movement is that studied observation may lead the way to better governance

The carbon taxes they want to impose would amount to one of the largest (if not THE largest) transfers of wealth to government in all of human history. Literally trillions of unaccountable dollars will be pouring into world governments all supposedly to 'fix' global warming. And you are trying to say that this isn't political? This is a cash grab, and they are getting useful idiots to play along by making the scientific community their little dancing monkeys in a game of modern-day patronage. When you follow the money trail, all these so-called 'climate studies' are bought and paid for by governments who winnow the results to get the scary headlines they need to spook the slow-witted and gullible into happily giving up their freedoms.

And government doesn't have to do squat except rake in the free money. They can't influence C02 levels any more than they can stop the sun, but they'll take your trillions of dollars - thanks. It is simple matter of Return on Investment. Is there ANY possibility that trillions of dollars going into government will in any way move the dial? There is no evidence that it will do a blessed thing. Therefore, why should we give up trillions to accomplish nothing except make paranoid people feel better about themselves? If you want to feel better about yourself then just go plant a tree and keep out of everyone's wallet.

Government of Occupation

Smithfield Food, the US's largest pork manufacturer, has pol
luted the land
in NC and turned their "lagoons" into pink wastelands. The locals got sick and were unable to sue Smithfield directly. Why? Because you can't sue a Corporation, silly. That's what the EPA is for.

The EPA gave them a one time fine of less than 1% of their yearly sales.

Then, the EPA praised Smithfield Food for their environmentalism.

I think this guy is right. US Government and Corporate collusion is the new Fascism.

Another 22,000 people will die next year without insurance to cover their health care.

Must make you proud

22K you say? where do you get that number? Is this like the half-a-billion dead Iraqi civilians the left lied about before and after being proved wrong?

I'm amazed you think America is a libertarian "wasteland" where the poor are left to die in the steets. The emergency rooms HAVE to take anyone that comes through their doors, including illegals. With Medicaid, Medicare and S-chip--socialized medicine All--it's very hard to die or starve in America. Do you wonder where the money goes? Medicaid fraud alone costs you and me 60 BILLION dollars a year and no one cares.

I'm proud every day to not be a willing serf of this evil, out-of-control government, subject to live or die by the whims of subnormal bureaucrats. There are better ways to live. Such as free.

Completely at odds with westy, I'm really looking forward to this. Post Apocalyptic wasteland is by no... no... no means original, but it's a cliche because it's a wonderful world to set a narrative and game. I think this looks like it could be seriously good fun.
