hey you - looks like you replied to me instead of oileanach on this one. just thought you might like to know

A huuuuuuge thx for posting the Arduino related video. You anwered just about every question i had when discovering it on Livesift.

Did you build this by any chance?

In reply to this comment by blahpook:
I agree. She deserves way more credit than the small group off the street the Today Show must have pulled in to watch her sing.

In reply to this comment by oileanach:
I heard this track on the radio when it first came out and I bought the album almost immediately - what an excellent piece of work! That lame ass clapping at the end is pathetic though... flogging one's album on morning TV shows is a pretty humiliating end of the business I think. I'd strongly recommend all of her stuff.

Regina Spektor – US

spoco2 says...

I love Regina... her music is fantastic, and then add to that the fact that she is gorgeous... what a package.

It's actually something I've thought about a bit in the past. We have these great singer songwriting women who are also gorgeous (Regina, Tori Amos, Jewell, Fiona Apple, Clare Bowditch etc. etc.).

The odds of getting great voice, great playing, great songwriting AND beauty in the one package has to be pretty slim. As such I do wonder how many women with the first three qualities are overlooked because they don't have the last?

Men don't get this as much, there are plenty of ugly male singer/songwriters (yes, horrible double standards).

oh hoh hoh! Merci monsieur Eklek. I thought someone here must like metric. If you do, you should check out her solo career, Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton. More piano, similar to Fiona Apple.

Fiona Apple - Fast As You Can (live)

I have to comment on this, because last month I witnessed the end of an era - the very last show at the Largo. Jon Brion, Benmont Tench, Fiona Apple, Sara and Sean Watkins. Goddamn, I'm going to miss that place.

Chumbawamba - "Tubthumping": Yeah, I get knocked down too...

I specifically said I don't have any issue with people who like this song, so I'm starting to think you all just enjoy being offended and/or arguing. Spoco, I give you credit for making a meaningful statement in your response. Unfortunately you've joined in with the squirrel, painting a false representation of me with your own brush and then blaming me for what it looks like.

I don't listen to much obscure music, especially these days. Even back in my teens, most of my favorite music was known artists: Stabbing Westward, God Lives Underwater, NIN, Fiona Apple, Live... None of them were exactly underground 10 years ago. I've never been one of those drones who turn against a band when they become popular.

To illustrate another point, I'll use the Damien Rice video just mentioned above. I just watched it. I didn't like it. It's in no way bad; it's just not my thing. I can respect it even though I don't like it because it's still obvious talent. He can sing, write and play. He has put that extra something into his work... that extra something that makes him an artist rather than an ordinary attention whore.

Chewbakawaka doesn't fit that definition. There's a dozen people in the band and apparently not one of them can write a song or music or play an instrument.

Do I have "guilty pleasures"? Probably, but I don't claim they are anything but. People keep ignoring me when I say that I'm criticizing the people who don't admit or recognize this is a stupid, meaningless song whether they enjoy it or not. I've said previously that if you just aren't that picky and/or just enjoy a dumb party song, I hold no judgment. I don't really get you, but whatever. If you're one of the many people I've met, including several of my friends, who think this is a great song, then I think there's something wrong with you or something missing from your life.

On a quick side note, several people seem to have missed the fact that this site is all about critique and passing judgment. This is the wrong place to be if you have a tantrum every time someone criticizes you or your taste.

Firstly I'm also a Jon Brion fan. From what I've seen from movie clips it seems like this movie will be very dark, and not particulary suited for Brion's style of music. I don't think he'd be slighted or hurt by letting someone else do the score. He's got enough talent and projects to keep him busy for quite some time. Not to mention that he's been recording a new solo album at Abbey Road!

In reply to this comment by dystopianfuturetoday:
Really!?! I have kind of mixed emotions about that, because Jon Brion has done some brilliant work in PTA's previous films, yet I love Radiohead and JG. I wonder what happened? First Jon Brion gets his version of Fiona Apple's album (unfairly and wrongly) dumped, and now this.

In reply to this comment by guessandcheck:
...not to mention jonny greenwood from radiohead did the score!
