Apparently he was just an asshole.

Or maybe he's just an asshole? Hmmm it's a *mystery.
On a side note, I don't think that several people all recognizing the same thing (that he's an asshole) qualifies as "group think".

I just find it hard to believe that and asshole of his extent can exist, especially in a pseudo-intellectual community. I find it easier to believe that he is an illusion and a tool used to create animosity.
But maybe he is just an asshole.
The group-think mentality is mostly applicable to the anti-conservative sentiment of the site, which users such as BillO incite with weak, emotionally fueled arguments

could you please explain or tell me where I can see explained, why it would not just go into an elliptical orbit instead? Keep in mind you are in a space suit outside the spacestation and can only throw about 30 miles per hour or so. What about if you throw an object straight "up" while in orbit? My guess is the result would be the same.

In reply to this comment by rgroom1:
When an object is in orbit, it is already in free-fall, but the centripetal force going up is equaled by the force of gravity going down. If you chuck something down, it will continue that way until it hits the ground.

some day I'd like to be hurtling through the vacuum of space and just full-on chuck something down at Earth.

I have a question for the physicists - what would happen to an object thrown perpendicular to your orbit down toward earth? Disregard atmospheric drag. After one orbit, would that object come back up towards you as fast as you chucked it?

Ah, I see, no worries!

I edited the tags to include your search terms. Hopefully that should prevent it from not showing again in searches or on the dupe radar.

Happy sifting,

10 months ago I saw my video disappear without a trace.
When i search elephant and poop(and synonyms), and nothing, including the original, showed up, I assumed that something must have gone awry with the one video. I understand now

In reply to this comment by maatc:
rgroom1, it is odd but you submitted the exact same clip (even with the same title) about 10 months ago here: http://www.videosift.com/video/2-Elephants-1-Cup , and that one was also discarded as a dupe.

so sorry, but: *dupeof=http://www.videosift.com/video/Snack-Time-in-the-Elephant-Pen

Just saw this comment. I'm interested why you think Socialism and the Constitution can't co-exist. The Constitution allows for multiple people to own the same property (otherwise corporations could not exist) so why would it be against the Constitution for the government and the people to collectively own and operate a system such as, say, health care? Additionally, the Constitution doesn't explicitly restrict against a redistribution of wealth. You could even argue it actually encourages it through the General Welfare clause in Article 1, Section 8. So again, why couldn't Socialism and the Constitution co-exist?

In reply to this comment by rgroom1:
The constitution and the bill of rights are very adamant about defending individual rights, individual freedoms, individual choices, so long as they do not interfere with an individuals "Life, Liberty, and Happiness (or property, if you like Locke)" which are defined as inalienable.
Property - everyone is entitled to own all they create or gain through gift or trade so long as it doesn't conflict with the first two rights
Socialism - a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society.
Now, defenses aside, the constitution, the guiding force of the United States, seems very very explicitly against many of the policies that are reveled here on the sift.
If you feel that it is outdated, then maybe you should begin a campaign to disband the constitution. But I, and many many others will not allow it.

Oh, yeah. I thought you might have meant "joined the sift late" for a minute...

In reply to this comment by rgroom1:
late in the debate
as the sift ages, it gets less page views. also, the info you posted would have been useful earlier, but no one will see it now.

In reply to this comment by MarineGunrock:
What do you mean "this late in the game"?

In reply to this comment by rgroom1:
Should we just run all the military-esque videos past you? you know too much to be coming in this late in the game dammit.

the basic syntax for a link is:

<a href="URL here">text here</a>

So, using your link from below as an example:
Great picture <a href="http://taylhis.tangents.org/tag/funny-police-story/">here</a>

Which would turn into:
Great picture here

In reply to this comment by rgroom1:
Was this in GA? I definitely remember seeing it on the news. Great picture here ( http://taylhis.tangents.org/tag/funny-police-story/ )
p.s. can some one teach me how to hyperlink? no experience with html

Nothing wrong with being a smartass, though growing up around it i know all about it and until i see a news story on this guy with doctors presenting evidence i dont buy it. Though yes i do think he has some disorders most definitely and they are quite entertaining

Thank you for replying the way you did. I think the downside of the internet is that without knowing the intent behind comments, blatantly sexist comments can just come off looking like really sexist comments.

I think the downside of the commenting system here, is that when comments like yours get rotated to the front page, I think they can mis-represent the community to the tens of thousands of visitors who pop in to check it out, each day.

It is off-putting to read comments like that and I would hazard to guess that for a female visitor to come by and see that on the front page, she probably wouldn't bother hanging around. If that happens often enough, it can only be to the detriment of this site. Balance is the only way to greatness.

In reply to this comment by rgroom1:
I heartily apologize that i offended you. I figured that the comment was so blatently sexist that no-one would would take it seriously.

In reply to this comment by persephone:
I would ask that you please leave such inflammatory comments out of the Sift. You can only put women on this site off-side by making them here. If it's an attempt at irony, it's not very effective.

In reply to this comment by rgroom1:
upvote for hitting women!!!
