just a quick rebuttal fyi, in BC, Doctors, Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses and Licenced Practical nurses can pronounce death, although there is no legal reason to do so. The only legal demand of the process is that a death certification be made within 48 hours. It would be negligent imho if there wasn't at least a nurse present. I believe it is an IOC requirement.

just a quick fyi, only a medical doctor can pronounce someone as dead. The only time that anyone else can is if there is positively no chance of survival. He probably died on impact with that pillar, but he can't be pronounced dead until a doctor sees him.

He didn't die during the video, only due to injuries which occured.

This is playing all over the news, we will not be stopping anything by killing it.

Hi Rgroom- dupeof is a gold star invocation - best thing to do is just put a link to the correct on in the comments of the post, and me or someone will look it over and dupe it. Thanks!

Okay, so we were talking about the relative administrative overhead between Medicare and private insurance. That study from Cato says healthcare regulation is adding $1 trillion to health care costs generally.

Reading through their methodology, they try to do a cost/benefit analysis of regulation, which they admit is exceedingly challenging to do accurately (in no small part because they aren't designed to be profitable, they're supposed to protect people's health and rights).

So, not only are you putting forward a libertarian think tank's study, you're putting forth one that would require a huge amount of subjective assumptions to come up with any estimate at all. On top of that, the study's conclusion doesn't even make a germane point, since if we eliminated all the regulation it would boost Medicare's numbers too by cutting all that rights-protecting red tape.

This doesn't back up the statement that Medicare's overhead costs are 1/3, or 33%, it's making a different argument altogether.
