I unfortunately haven't had time for years to add reading to my schedule. Thanks for sharing your opinion of the book. If I ever have time to read again, it'll definitely be near the top of my list.

Have you read it? I feel that the story Sagan wrote was intellectually richer than the movie -- although I do love the movie too.

If it is just us... seems like an awful waste of space.

I just finished watching Contact today after a decade since my previous viewing and then here I see your quote from it. Funny.

Purrty good, my friend. Purrrty, purrty good. I'll have to tell you about the party I went to on Sunday. My best friend invited me. His older brother is a wealthy high-powered lawyer who knows all these super rich people. We were picked up by a paid driver in a big black SUV to go to this richy-rich persons home up in the hills of Palos Verdes, and then driven back at the end. It was insane. Of course, I forgot my fricken phone so I couldn't get any pictures to post to facebook. It was a fun and interesting event. Very nice people. Oh, and I got hit on. Don't tell DFT. LOL

other than some mild jetlag, i'm just purrfect and how are you, your majesty?

In reply to this comment by Issykitty:
Hi. How are you, berti dear?

Seen it.

Be sure to watch the sequel, Manderlay, if you haven't yet! I think there's also a third movie (it was meant to be a trilogy) but I haven't seen it, if it exists.

Sarzy is right. Lars is a professional troll. Every film he makes, every word he says seems to be designed to provoke and challenge your expectations. He is also a first rate director, who even at his worst, makes thoughtful, well crafted films. Even the nauseating 'Anti-Christ' was beautifully executed.

Issy and I just recently saw Dogville and loved it. It's a brutal indictment of America, and in particular, the kind of glorified small town 'heartland' America that many Americans find sacred. It's a slow burn, so don't give up in the first act.

Well my reply would be a less douchey version of what rs just said. I am fully in support of the spirit of what they're trying to do -- I just suspect this ad will be totally ineffective. Would be only too happy to be wrong.

The NZ government is big on 'shock' ads to try and curb male teen drink driving. The ads don't work. They are a spectacular failure. But they keep ramping up the shock value anyway. I suspect, sadly, that the same would apply in this domain.

I just don't agree with that. Trying to stop teens/adults from doing harm to themselves is nigh on impossible, people think it won't happen to them so they ignore all warnings. Helping to bring awareness to child abuse by using shock tactics is entirely different. An adults natural protective instinct would mean that they are more likely to want to help a kid who is being abused than heed advice on smoking/drink/drugs/gambling etc. etc.

dear berticus,
stop hogging all the awesome.
thank you,
enoch
