Here is the original (from 2015),longer and better quality video. Seems to me that whomever uploaded this video to Youtube, cropped it down so the date and owner of the video would not be shown. My guess is they are trying to pass it off as current events to hustle those sweet YouTube views. https://videosift.com/video/Overtaken-by-Wave-of-Wild-Fire
Anyway is a dupe of the above video

(edit) After looking at this yt channel "savage entertainment", it seems obvious they just repost other peoples videos.

Love your reply and POV. You got it pretty much 100% right IMO. I admit, as I Christian, I went in from a far more cynical perspective because this "wholly uninterested god" is way different from the God of the Bible. Not that God didn't bring some crazy disasters on humans in the OT, but damn, not this way or purpose as in the videos.

I don't mind people mocking God or Christians or overly religious zealots of any faith. Many are wholly deserved to be mocked. People (that includes me, God knows I'm a dumbass, lol) need to be held responsible for their own crap & offensiveness and be called out.

Still, I feel this series is not helping any discussion, just good for a laugh (maybe?) and some decent video editing & production. It's harmless if seen as a philosophical piece.

I'd love to see some intelligent, cool-headed no-trolling discussions on the pros & cons, history & evolution of religion and such. But it's really tough when religion is so politicized (especially in the USA) and often hijacked for self-serving purposes. (Godly man Roy Moore my ass!)

I live in Canada, and I would call myself a Christian in public here, but in the US? No freaking way... it's not out of fear of being mocked and anything... it's that I hardly see me as anything similar to those "evangelicals" from my own limited exposure to them in US media. It's like they're a different (offensive) beast.

I took it as commentary on the idea that, if there is an omniscient, omnipotent god, it must be wholly uninterested in our well being and completely divorced from our idea of morality and decency or it would use it's powers in a far more beneficial and instructive way.

Cancer Screening Myths

newtboy says...

Ok, so in a very narrow specific set of circumstances it's correct, but in general it's not. That seems to be an important point not made clear in the video.

Edit: Lazy cancer? First I've heard it called that. Not sure what you mean " you can do more harm than good." Are you suggesting that treatment is worse than the disease?

worthwords said:

PSA In particular is not a good screening test.
And prostate unlike most other cancers in that for indolent cancers you can do more harm than good. So not broadly generalisable to all cancers.

ANTIFA Returns To Berkeley

newtboy says...

Not that any of this is acceptable, but it's funny how your video omits the part where the armed and armored (clubs, helmets and full body pads) right wingers violently pushed into the counter protest crowd, starting the violence you now decry, and that this video edits to look one sided.

At this point, it's more than probable that nothing will get Trump reelected, but if the right is successful painting these anarchist asshats as liberals, and by extension liberals as these asshats, it could get another Trump like feculent demagogue elected.
That's why I think it's important to denounce them (antifa) at every opportunity. Fascists against fascism are still fascists, just incredibly stupid ones. They don't stand for what I think the left is about, and I certainly don't stand with them.

I agree, horrifyingly, this is apparently escalating towards gunplay. I'm not at all sure which side will shoot first. Don't fool yourself into thinking the left and the anarchists don't have guns too, though, or that totally non political citizens won't take up arms against rampaging Nazis and fascists (hopefully fascists left and right). Just something to consider when you're standing next to one hoping a gunfight breaks out.

2 things come to mind.

1 This shit will get Trump re elected.
2 Just a matter of time when guns are pulled in self defense.

Ok 3 things

Settl

eric3579 says...

So fix it with a working embed or remove it if you know its currently not working. What's the point of leaving up a non working video.

-edit-
ill replace with your backup (even though it's crap) if you aren't going to.

Yeah, I don't know why. See its backup cammed.

@lucky760 and @dag, what's up? It seems because the web browsers are blocking non-secured connections?

Real Time Facial Re-Enactment

entr0py says...

I don't think this is the sort of thing that wouldn't be happening if not for Stanford, but rather it wouldn't be happening in a transparent and openly published way. The entertainment and gaming industries alone guarantee these techniques will make steady progress.

In the description they mention a big part of their work is the detection of video edits to verify the authenticity of videos. Trying to keep state of the art programming techniques in the public domain can only help us spot this stuff and be less gullible as a society.

Lulz, what is it with people doing shit because they can, and never asking if they should? I thought the real time voice mimicry tech was bad enough...
