Competition is for Losers: Natural Monopolies Aren't Forced

Yogi says...

Why yes it certainly does seem like hyperbole when you fail to read everything I said. I also said this "You do not get that kind of money without the help of others, exploiting others, doing illegal shit, or basically being a fucking thief." Bodies of course being hyperbolic (sometimes, not in the case of Oil Barons) and also metaphorical.

I don't think I have to address Zuckerbergs thievery it's pretty well documented that he had to pay people off to avoid lengthy court cases. It's pretty obvious he isn't Self Made in any way.

Bill Gates well a lot of people have plenty of stories about him stealing things and doing shit that's very sketchy but how about we ignore that. Let's go to the fact that he developed (stole) programs to run on something that was made from public funds by the military. Computers are completely anti-free market, they come from and were created by massive intervention in the market.

If you use a computer and the internet you're basically supporting socialism and betraying the free market.

We don't make the news because we are small potatoes. And the problems won't show up until next summer.

California has been robbing water from all over for years. I find it particularly galling that this decades old thievery is just now getting more wide notice. I lived down there 30 years ago, and it was a problem then.

We don't get that much snow, really, not at sea level. But the Olympic Mountains usually get covered up -- and that is our water source. Usually.

We'll get maybe one really good snow every year and a half. Last year, it snowed three days in a row -- unprecedented. And now we get none.

Hence the "half."

Those who cross country ski are hungry for it. They'll ski in ankle deep snow!

Washington as well? What's the deal on the west coast these days? Over here, you only ever get short articles about the Colorado or the current drought in the southwestern States, mainly California.

By the way, just finished shoveling again, though I suppose it's a pitiful amount of snow compared to what you get ("skiing to work"). Still, even the ankle-deep snow gives me immense pleasure.

The Dalai Lama's Guide To Happiness

chingalera says...

Of bankers and Nazi's?? The Tibetan Buddhist would simply say of these illusions that life in this incarnation is suffering, lumping thievery and murder no matter the scale into a similar karmic bowl of inevitability, and give it a stir...all the while mumbling the Dharma.

Why does the Dali Llama smile all the time?
Why do bad things happen to good people?
Good Drugs.

I wouldn't want religious indoctrination in public schools, but isn't understanding the best selling book in human history part of understanding the history of western civilization?

The Bible is also the most stolen book in human history.

They need to install some monitoring and DRM in it to keep this travesty from happening. Why aren't we up in arms about people stealing this content? Food from mouths, how will we ever produce future content and updates....killing the religious industry by this thievery, etc...etc

Firefighters vs Cops

doogle says...

You think firefighters are just peering out the window of the firehouse, waiting for a fire? Or going from one car wreck to getting a cat out of a tree, then onto a fire?

Talk to one. You'll have all day to talk.

I hope your house burns down. With you in it.
But at the last second.. one of these "ungrateful" FireFighters pulls your mostly burnt body from the wreckage.
The only disgusting things about this video are the State thievery and your dumbass comments. fuckin' troll

Makana - We are the many (fantastic Occupy song)

ghark says...

We Are The Many

Ye come here, gather 'round the stage
The time has come for us to voice our rage
Against the ones who've trapped us in a cage
To steal from us the value of our wage

From underneath the vestiture of law
The lobbyists at Washington do gnaw
At liberty, the bureaucrats guffaw
And until they are purged, we won't withdraw

We'll occupy the streets
We'll occupy the courts
We'll occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few

Our nation was built upon the right
Of every person to improve their plight
But laws of this Republic they rewrite
And now a few own everything in sight

They own it free of liability
They own, but they are not like you and me
Their influence dictates legality
And until they are stopped we are not free

We'll occupy the streets
We'll occupy the courts
We'll occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few

You enforce your monopolies with guns
While sacrificing our daughters and sons
But certain things belong to everyone
Your thievery has left the people none

So take heed of our notice to redress
We have little to lose, we must confess
Your empty words do leave us unimpressed
A growing number join us in protest

We occupy the streets
We occupy the courts
We occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few

You can't divide us into sides
And from our gaze, you cannot hide
Denial serves to amplify
And our allegiance you can't buy

Our government is not for sale
The banks do not deserve a bail
We will not reward those who fail
We will not move till we prevail

We'll occupy the streets
We'll occupy the courts
We'll occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few

We'll occupy the streets
We'll occupy the courts
We'll occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few

We are the many

Crime Fighting Mom Chases After Beer Thieves

bareboards2 says...

@chilaxe, I have racist relatives. I have watched them go bananas when a black person does something they don't like. I found her reaction to be way over the top - it appeared to be fueled by something more than just thievery.

Have you been around racist folks in the South? Have you listened to the vitriol and bile that comes out of their mouths about black people? It is astounding, irrational, and deeply rooted in something primal and rage-filled.

There are all sorts of people here, commenting on how irresponsible and weird it is that she risked her life and limbs over a couple of cases of beer. Something set her off. I guessed -- guessed -- that it might be racism.

I could be wrong. I don't know. I'm just looking at the evidence in front of me, paired up with my knowledge of the profound irrationality of deeply racist people.

I just thought the tags were really cool. Sylvester Sylvester Sylvester is funny.

Ayn Rand Took Government Assistance. (Philosophy Talk Post)

gwiz665 says...

As long as the system is what it is, then people get the costs and the benefits of the system. Even if they think the cost is thievery and the benefit is immoral. When both the cost and the benefit is eliminated it me (or may not) be a better system and what someone like Rand would have preferred.

It is arguably weaker to pay the cost and refuse the benefit out of some weird sense of pride. She should have taken it under her own name, and loudly exclaimed "I'm taking back what is mine until they no longer take it from me". Accepting it under a different name is underhanded and misleading.

Chinese Man Throws Bicycle at Thieves

Krupo says...

Gotta love the ridiculous # of security cameras in China. Also funny - the guy running away after. There's *fail going on here (either on the thievery part, or the initial fight as MilkmanDan succinctly analyzes), just not sure on whose part...
