Deepak Chopra & Sanjay Gupta Discuss Death on Larry King

Trancecoach says...

So you take the position that consciousness is an epiphenomenon of the brain and that consciousness does not exist outside of the mechanisms of the central nervous system? If so, then how do you reconcile the "Hard Problem" of consciousness? I suppose the accounts of individuals who recall events that occurred during periods of documented "brain death" are using mere telepathy to find out what happened while their brain and body has been cooled to temperatures below 24 degrees celsius.

>> ^bamdrew:

Old idea that the mind and the brain are one??? What the...?! The OLD idea is the shit that they're talking about, where the brain and mind/consciousness are separate! The NEW idea is still that an organ can create consciousness, and with damage/injury/drugs that consciousness and even ones personality is altered.

... this was the biggest bunch of bullshit I've heard in a long time. Maybe I'm biased (as my user icon demonstrates, I'm a brain nerd).

My first post....

Really? Really? I mean....REALLY? No seriously.......REALLLLY?????

I mean, this guy might’ve convinced me if he called while I watched this video and said, "See? I totally sensed that you figured out that I'm a douche-bag".

I love it when "scientists" portray skeptics as the evil villains that bully anyone from taking them seriously.

Skeptics are the good guys. They're the ones who say everybody is probably full of it until they can prove otherwise. This guy has soooo totally not proved otherwise.

Also, if impalas can sense the lion’s stare, why do they get eaten?

Likewise, if women are so keen on this mental telepathy, how could I have gathered a pit full of ‘em under my basement?

campionidelmondo responded with some really useful information. I don't know anything about SeaMonkey, but my browser, Camino, integrates Flashblock. In other words, it's not a plugin, so I can't update the version myself. I have to wait for them to release the next version of Camino.

Please also mention this in VS v4 issues discussion! I contacted the FlashBlock developer about this as well to see what's up.

Are you still having problems with FlashBlock on individual video pages? I just noticed that it works fine if the embed is from google and not youtube. Check out this post and let me know if FlashBlock works properly for you on that one. I think it's just a problem with youtube embeds. I'm going to try to find some posts from other hosts to see.

[edit] It's not just YouTube. Vimeo, MySpace, and Hulu don't work, but ComedyCentral does. This is weird.

Then how come before v4, it worked fine? What was changed between the last one and v4 to cause it? Yes, I do need FlashBlock because I don't want the videos to show up right away until I tell it to do. I load like 10-50 tabs on VS to watch videos later.

Hi Ant-

I don't want you to think I don't care about the problem because I really do. I want the site to work for you and everyone.

From that error message you pasted:
>> location: "chrome://flashblock/content/flashblock.xml
it seems even clearer that the problem is in Flashblock.

Because there seems to be some kind of compatibility issue with that add-on and VideoSift, I'm being completely honest when I say I don't have any idea what we could possibly do to the website to make the add-on work properly with it. The only option as far as I can tell is to not use Flashblock. There's really no flash that you need to block on the Sift anyway. Or is there?

Sorry I can't do anything to fix it, but it really is just a problem with Flashblock.

I'll mention it again in the sift talk post, but lucky didn't seem to care much.

Yeah. I noticed because I was all alone. If we have more poeple, then he will have to fix it. It worked fine on old VS design but not v4. Also, whitelist for videosift.com worked too. Flashblock is hating VS's changes.

Also, I saw this error in SeaMonkey v1.1.17's Error Console:
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Node was not found" Â code: "8" nsresult: "0x80530008 (NS_ERROR_DOM_NOT_FOUND_ERR)" Â location: "chrome://flashblock/content/flashblock.xml Line: 348"]

Do you see this in yours (you didn't tell me which browser)?

Wow, I didn't know all that. I'll do a bit more research before making such an assured assertion next time. Thanks for the enlightenment.

In reply to this comment by Trancecoach:
^Wrong.

Krippner (1977), Rao (1984), Targ & Puthoff (1977, pp. 182-186), and Tart (1982b) have all documented glaring errors made by James Randi who has failed on numerous occasions to award the money when he has been proved wrong. Instead, he makes up reasons after the fact about why an experiment failed to meet his criteria.

Dennis Stillings has demonstrated that "Randi is capable of gross distortion of facts" (Truzzi, 1987, p. 89). Randi has been quoted as saying, "I always have an out" with regard to his $1,000,000 challenge (Rawlins, 1981, p. 89). Puthoff and Targ (1977) documented a number of mistakes. In a published, handwritten, signed letter, Randi replied offering $1,000 if any claimed error could be demonstrated (see Fuller, 1979). Fuller proved Randi wrong. In a rejoinder to Puthoff & Targ (1977), Randi reversed himself (for a clear example, see point number 15 in Randi, 1982, p. 223). Randi should have paid the $1,000, but he never did."

Big surprise.

Isn't there a million dollars, or some ridiculous amount of money, waiting for the person that can prove this type of supernatural power?

Yes, James Randi's Million Dollar Challenge! Many have tried, all have failed!
