I turned myself into an AI superhero

newtboy says...

Um….what?
It’s not “turning yourself into a super hero” to have your photo 100% drawn over and not at all incorporated into the super hero drawing it became.

Also, what’s with the Bat Ramen?

Mark 38 Machine Gun Hits Small Boat Targets

BSR says...

I think "strange times" are just about 17 years old when the testosterone kicks in.

Looters and arsonists and wannabe super heroes are naturally attracted to each other. It's an invitation. It's in the game. It's their party.

A good person or idea cannot go unnoticed for long. In the end, "Cream rises to the top."

Not really Strange Times. Same as it ever was.

Lot of worry about a 17 year old trying to fend off looters and arsonists. And seemingly no worry about the looters and arsonists. Strange times we live in.

Fans react to Black Panther poster

Lambozo says...

jimnms, having seen the movie, I can see why people are reacting this positively to it. Have you seen it? Where you have or havent, consider the following.

You are right that this isn't the first black superhero movie. If you ignore comedies starring goofy concept heros, the list of movies narrows. Then, consider movies with black super heros who are not anti-heroes (Spawn, Blade). Why this distinction? Anti-heroes are great, but they aren't characters for a general young audience to aspire to. To notice that the majority of main character superheroes in movies are either partially a joke or a dark/brooding/scary/threatening/antisocial hero might be a drag. especially when you compare it to the pool of white super heroes who aren't (most of them). That's important.

First movie with a mostly black cast? No, but how many such movies arent about slavery, inner city gangs, extreme poverty, surviving racism, genocide or third world conflict. How many are almost purely optimistic blend of science fiction and the beauty of African culture? How many imagine what an African country unmolested by colonialism might look like in the future, where its citizens were allowed to reach their highest potential in terms of culture, government and technology? This is in part what the Afro-futurism science fiction genre is about and its a very rare genre to make it to film.

Especially a film that has a budget of $ 200 million dollars. That budget is important. It says that at this point in history, the largest (maybe?) movie studio recognizes that the public wants to see black characters in this light. That's a big deal too.

And considering how well this movie is doing at the box office, Black Panther is a signal of whats to come. More stories about inspirational black characters told at this kind of block buster scale.

Does that make a bit more sense? I'm sure there are other reasons; one being its a really good movie! Hope this helps.

Liberal Redneck - Muslim Ban

newtboy says...

For my two cents, I'll gladly admit that today, Islam has the worst problem with violent extremism.
Will would admit that this is a transient condition and in the near future another religion will wear that crown?
Remember, on South park, Super Best Friends episode, they drew Muhammad and portrayed him as a semi super hero, it was broadcast, and nothing. Those days should return soon.

I totally agree that all religions have a problem, and all cultures have violence, fundamentalists, and other issues, but it's dishonest to say that they are all equal in problems, equally serious, equally harmful, or that the problems are equally widespread, equally ingrained in the culture, and especially equally represented by law and the government.

It's about rates, scale and motivation.

It would be dishonest to claim that there is no difference. Yet that is what it appears to be that's what you're suggesting.

Perhaps when you can draw big old Mo without the fear that someone will come after you, then we can start to talk about how equal all this is.

Movie Violence Done Right

JiggaJonson says...

I feel like I've been saying this for years about a variety of different films, mostly super hero genre crap.

When Wolverine cuts off someone's arm, I don't need Tarantino blood, but nothing happening doesn't make sense either. It's demeaning and belittling to the audience when filmmakers pander to the PG13 crowd.

Zack Snyder Fundamenal Flaw(Batman v Superman) - Nerdwriter

cryptoz says...

it is a really strange universe and I dont like angry emotionally driven batman or meh to everything superman... wonder woman was dope. I wasn't "poo-poo" and turned it off but I also dont eagerly await the rest of the shows. It is visually worth watching to see comic book super hero use their powers.

Legion Official Trailer #1

moonsammy says...

Agents of SHIELD had a somewhat weak start, though decent. Season 2 was an improvement on 1, and season 3 was excellent in my opinion. So far it doesn't connect too directly to what happens in the films, but does seem to be doing a lot of legwork to set up for one of the future movies. If you like super hero stuff in general, it's worth a watch.

Note that Legion won't have any connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Avengers, Dr Strange, SHIELD, Daredevil, etc), as it is part of the Fox / X-Men universe instead. I've no idea if Fox will tie it to their film franchise, though I'd assume it would be pretty minimal as this appears to be set in our current era vs the films right now being a few decades back.

The Philosophy of Deadpool

eric3579 says...

As someone who doesn't enjoy "super hero" films or read comic books, I thought Deadpool was much more enjoyable than any other film in the genre.

I did however also enjoy the first Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Not that anyone cares of course

Zack Snyder v. Superman

artician says...

What Zack Snyder lacks in general directing skills, he makes up for exponentially with his action scenes. Because of those actions scenes, Man of Steel was the first super hero film I actually enjoyed in almost forever. I get that most people loathe that film, but for me it delivered on what's been lacking from the "super hero" genre since its introduction to film: super-human, appropriately-sized destruction and chaos.

I thought this was going to be a heart breaking tale about group of people who are going through hormone replacement therapy, and this movie explores their relationships and personal lives.

But it's just another super hero movie.
