they 'know' that whatever happens, they'll still be millionaires or better.

That's a sober statement, and close to a fact.

Well put - you should be a writer or something.>> ^KotDBook:

You're right. Hitler and pedophiles are too easy. There are plenty of contemporary examples of why attacking Christianity is easy. The book won't deal with that (only with what's in the Bible...and zombies). The video was about why people should learn what's in the Bible.
I'm not claiming to offer up a brand-new theological paradigm. There are a ton of arguments and counter-arguments, and I'm presenting them in a narrative. The reader will decide which argument makes more sense. Is there a hell? What happens to dead babies who haven't accepted Jesus? How do you reconcile "free will" with a deity that offers immortal rewards? What does the Bible say about eating feces and drinking urine?
Since the Bible's perfect, it should stand up to questions. It has all the answers, right? So isn't exposing people to those questions a good thing? Why is exposing people to the concepts of the Bible "bashing"? Are you only allowed to pick it up if you agree beforehand to accept everything within it without question?
How do Christians expect to convert atheists and other religions to their faith if they can't learn about it? Can you only biology if you agree not to ask any questions? Okay, bad example.
And yes, there are good and bad people, regardless of religion (or lack thereof). And a few bad Popes or Holy Crusades or Inquisitions doesn't mean that every Christian is evil, necessarily.
Good luck with your Mohammed book. I'd skip the slideshow.

Is this the end of China's economic bubble?

Drachen_Jager says...

@mentality

It is really hard to say exactly where the figures come from. The 64.5 million 'empty' figure is the supposed number of apartments which registered zero power consumption according to a leaked report. China's power company denies that, but then of course they would, whether it's true or not.

Just one city with 9 million vacant homes! There's another that's built for 2.5 million which is empty except for construction workers and a few shopkeepers and such to support them in Tibet. I've seen a slideshow of the empty cities in China, it's pretty scary. You don't have to add too many empty apartments in cities with actual populations, like Beijing, to get up to 64 million.

I am not certain that any of those numbers are true. Who can be with China's tight grip on such information. But I believe it. I have seen enough evidence that I have little doubt. 64 million is probably a lowball estimate.

From Dr Phil's Website:

Dr. Phil plays a video of Jessica standing in her bathroom yelling at her 7-year-old son, Kristoff. Dr. Phil interrupts the tape before its completion and turns to the mom of six.

“So that makes sense to you?” he asks, indicating her discipline techniques.

“I don’t know what to do with this child,” she replies.

“I’m just going to tell you up front, there is no theory under which that is going to work. There is no theory under which that makes sense,” Dr. Phil says. “You had to know that was going to be my attitude about this.”

“Of course,” she says.

When the videotape ends, mouths hang open, and many audience members wipe away tears.

“I need to say this and be very clear. We didn’t shoot that tape. Your daughter shot that tape,” Dr. Phil reminds Jessica. “Because if I had a camera crew in your home shooting that, and they didn’t intervene and stop it, there would be something seriously wrong with my camera crew. I think anybody would look at that and say that that is absolutely outrageous, it is over the top, it is abusive, it is inefficient, it is out of control. I’m sorry. I just have to tell you the truth.”

“You’re completely entitled to your opinions,” Jessica says. “That’s why I’m here.”

“I’m glad you are here, because I’m telling you, that has to stop,” Dr. Phil warns Jessica. “If you say you’ve been through everything — you’ve tried time-outs, you’ve done this, you’ve done that — if you’re down to that, then you need to give the child up, because you are out of control. Somebody in the audience yelled out, ‘That is evil.’ I don’t believe that. I don’t believe you’re an evil person. I think you are misguided. I think you think you’re doing the only thing you know how to do, but that is totally unacceptable.”

“Then tell me what I need to do with him,” Jessica says in frustration.

Dr. Phil explains what Jessica means in the videotape when she says Kristoff “pulled three cards" at school. Green means good job, yellow is a warning, blue is a time-out, orange means removal from class and red means a trip to the principal’s office. “He had three cards that day. What were they for?” Dr. Phil asks.

“He was throwing pencils, he was sword fighting with another child, and he was acting out in another class,” Jessica replies.

“Your theory is, based on that, he then lied about it? He didn’t tell you he got the three?”

“Correct.”

“Let me tell you, I would lie 100 out of 100 times. You are teaching him to lie,” Dr. Phil points out. “Based on results, what you’re doing isn’t working.”

“So tell me what will,” Jessica says. “I will be happy to abandon all of that.”

“I believe you are desperate for answers,” Dr. Phil notes.

In an interview, Jessica’s husband, Gary, explains how he feels about his wife’s methods for disciplining Kristoff. “Jessica is more frustrated than angry, because we’ve added more kids to the house. When Jessica gets frustrated, I see her having a shorter temper. Kristoff has not reacted to much of our discipline,” he says. “The idea for hot sauce came up from my wife talking to a friend of hers. In the military, we use cold showers for discipline, basically to get people’s attention. When Kristoff gets a cold shower, he pays attention at the moment. I feel like I’m strict with my kids.”

When the videotape ends, Dr. Phil turns to Jessica. “You believe that, in fact, he has reactive attachment disorder,” he says, referring to her adopted son.

“Correct,” she answers.

“Is that your diagnosis, or has he been seen by a professional who has rendered that diagnosis?”

“He was seen by a professional for a while, but I don’t know if that professional diagnosed him as reactive attachment disorder,” Jessica replies.

“He is a twin, and his brother is not like this at all,” Dr. Phil points out.

I probably sounded pretty snide but that wasn't my intent.

My point is every few months someone with a diamond or higher starts complaining about how hard it is to get videos sifted. This is almost inevitably followed by requests to lower the threshold.

First, the irony of someone with a few hundred or more sifted videos complaining about how hard it is to sift them is like a multi-millionaire complaining that his income has dropped in the recession.

Second, the last thing we need to do is lower the threshold. We have more than enough toothless dogs, Japanese gameshows, Jessica Rabbit fanart slideshows, and Funny or Die clips without lowering the bar.

If someone can't get votes, maybe they should sift something that sucks less. At the very least, do what I do, and grumble to yourself about it.

Also, apologies to @blankfist who is the apparent recipient of my ranting here. It's not meant to be directed at him, but I've seen this happen enough to know that his comment is the type that will snowball into a mass hysteria like I've described.

Ooh, ouch.
No, it's not a responsibility to upvote. It's a responsibility to participate in the community of which you're a part. It's this second sense of responsibility which I suggested was being diluted by the increasing scale of the site.

I gave that channel back to the site when I had the power to do so-I created the channel but can't do anything with it-it's Videosift's....but yeah, fuck yeah-anything that speaks to less "pussified" times..folks, can go there-
There was a user here a couple years ago (raven....female) who I was pretty tight with...we chatted one night and she convinced me to create a channel for some shits and giggles-her's was the Horrorshow-now that she's gone, that channel too, has no owner...I think-I don't look at channels anymore.Never did really-

My first channel was EIA, then Jazz/Blues (gave that one up to kulpims i think), then wildwestshow -surrendered that one to start another, Videodrome, which never came to be because dag unilaterally decided that I had had created too many channels already-Bout that time, I got double-teamed by a couple of popular users, and then I decided, "fuck this" and summarily broke every rule stated in the FAQs in a span of 20 mins, got banned, the rest is Siftstory-

For a year, off and on, I created about 10 other accounts, (never wanting to be back if I could not have my old account back) and it was like a game for these two douchebags to find me out (made it pretty obvious)and instaban me.

It was a fluke that gwhiz665 posted a poll to allow me back, and dag decided at that time to allow me to return conditionally.....the only power i don;t have anymore is making a new channel and leaving private profile comments. That last caveat is because certain pussified individuals could not stand their own fucking medicine, when served cold. One bailed (kronosposiden) and one refuses to enter into any meaningful discourse with me, well, because he's Blankfist. I had issue when he came with his asshole showing and a cat fart video evoking my handle here.

Southern Avenger - Are Tea Partiers Racist?

dystopianfuturetoday says...

The original Ron Paul core of this movement was ideologically driven, but they've since been joined by plenty of ignorant conservative drones, many of whom are motivated by racism.

The birthers, the people who think Obama is a secret muslim or a terrorist, the people who were afraid of Reverand Wright, the people who love to listen to Limbaugh sing Barack the Magic Negro, the people who love Obama's middle name "Hussain", the people who wear T shirts with an Obama monkey on it, or who photoshop watermelons on the White House lawn.

If you don't want your movement to be considered racist, then don't tolerate racism. Unfortunately, if you take away the drones, you are going to have a much smaller tea party.

Here are some results from the first page of a 'tea party racist' google search
