Racism in UK -- Rapper Akala

transmorpher says...

Why are you saying "we enslaved"? I've never enslaved anyone. And nobody currently alive in the US has participated in legal slavery.

Even a descendant of a slave owner is not responsible for the atrocities of their ancestors - we aren't Klingons.

Yes white people did terrible things in the past, but "we" didn't do it and to take on perceived guilt for someone else's actions just because they are the same skin color as you is just self indulgent.

Further, please don't say "we expect" just as black people aren't all the same neither are white people, and one person does not speak for others unless they have been nominated to do so.

So here is what I expect: everyone on the planet regardless of race, religion, nationality and life experiences to be a decent human being, that respects the rights of others, and I expect it to go both ways, without concessions because of someone's culture.

Well, what pisses off me about racism in the States is that we enslaved people for 200+ years, made them live in shacks and treated them like cattle. We pretty much stripped them of dignity and all that is human to the point where many of them believed it, then we said: "Hey, you are free now, so act like us!" What in the funking funk is that kind of logic? Do we expect them to say, "Thanks for the freedom, now I'll just erase the indoctrination and all the memory and I'll magically be jolly jumping ideal citizen like the best examples of your race." What adequate tools did we give them to re-engage in society?

We often expect a tabula rasa from African Americans when in fact we ruined them and should heavily reinvest in them for at least a few decades, if not centuries. Racism based on half-assed logic boils my blood more than pure racism.

That you would make the comment at all shows that you think it's worth noting that 'Look, this one ISN'T a fundamentalist, and this Arab looking woman isn't being subjugated!', only leaving out "now I've seen everything."
For me, that's what was disturbing, the apparent surprise that any random Arab family might NOT be Islamic extremists.

I got your point about there being fundamentalists in other religions, but that's not the point. You would not see a white man encouraging his daughter to dance and say "Look, she's not wearing the little house on the prairie dress. Dad must not be a fundamentalist.", or a Semite with their daughter and say "She's not wearing a sheitel (wig) or a tichel (headscarf). Dad must not be a fundamentalist.", and when people jump to that disparaging (even subconsciously racist?) conclusion about them apparently based solely on their skin color and/or accent, it's unseemly (to me) and is exemplary of a problem.

EDIT: Also, I don't understand your 'diagram'. shouldn't it be
(non fundamentalists (religious people) fundamentalists)
or more clearly but probably not proper punctuation-
[non fundamentalists (religious people] fundamentalists)
Or even-
[non religious people-{non fundamentalists]-(religious people}-fundamentalist)
?

The Blackface Democrat

enoch says...

@bobknight33
you know bob,i owe you an apology.
i shouldnt have told you "fuck you" when my problem was with the video, and i wrongly conflated you with this video.

that being said,i still stand by my feelings of "fuck this video".

i struggle with people who have this binary view of politics.
just because i criticized the lies and deception of the republican party does not automatically translate me to promoting or defending democratic practices, because BOTH parties manipulate the body politic while at the very same fuck them over.

the two party duopoly are just different faces of the same coin.both have been purchased to serve the interests of:wall street, big business, bankers and the military.

i have never subscribed to either party.i judge on individual merit and a case by case basis.so when you call me a liberal i dont know what the fuck you are talking about.

do i hold some liberal views? yes.
do i hold some conservative? yep.

but so dont you bob,we ALL do.
of course that is not the dynamic that is shoved down our throat every goddamn day.that somehow our politics can be reduced down to this over-simplified,and overly basic dichotomy.

but nobody has such a simpleton, and almost childish politics.as humans we are pretty complex is our understandings, feelings and desires.it is those complexities that influences our politics and how we feel things should be as a society.

i am a libertarian socialist (anrcho-syndacalist).
which is why you may see me post videos that address the corruption in politics,in our economy,in our foreign policy.the hypocrisy of politicians espousing that "feel your pain" language, while they funnel public funds to their criminal friends on wall street...and point to the food stamp recipient,or immigrant and state..with zero sense of irony..THERE,that is your problem.

my politics is the reason why i may post video criticizing and ridiculing ultra-right wing politicians attempting to legislate "proper" and "moral" behavior, because they pretend they have some relationship with god,and god spoke to them.

but also why i will post videos criticizing and ridiculing the extreme left.who seek to legislate "harmful" or "offensive" speech, because they seek to control language.as if THEY are the true moral arbiters of human interaction.

so i do not necessarily disagree with you when you point to the democrats hypocrisy in regards to poor folk.that they use the language of empathy and compassion, and then enact legislation that is entirely bereft of compassion and empathy, but BOTH parties do this!

bill clinton was incredibly detrimental to the poor and working poor and made the job of digging out of poverty damn near impossible.

you may identify with republican ideology, and that is not a bad thing.republican base ideology may be a tad more pro-business,but it also recognizes that the governments job is to protect the people from fraud and over-reach from those businesses.original republican ideology was for limited government, and fiscal responsibility.which USED to translate to anti-war and dismissing the military when it was no longer needed.

i could go on.

i could also point out that democrats USED to be more hawkish and far more involved in addressing the concerns of the working man.

but look at the political landscape of today.
both of these parties are nothing even close to representing their original ideals.they are solely and totally beholden to big monied interests.

our republic has become a plutocracy, run by the plutocrats and oligarchs.

so when you delineate the argument by republican/democrat i simply do not see this play out in reality.

we might as well be arguing who is the better fottball team, because thats what american politics has become.bread and circuses and cheerleading for our "team".

it is the height of absurdity.american politics has become absurd.

as for you not seeing this for being racist.
i dont know what i can say to remove your blinders.
this video is textbook racist.
we have "black face"
we have over-generalizations.
we have ridicule and assumption based solely on skin color.

calling this video racist is a non-controversial assertion.

and you cant promote it out of discard.
the sift has spoken.you can disagree, but that wont change the fact that this video is in the discard bin.

anyways, sorry for telling you to fuck off.
i just found this video offensive, but i dont find YOU offensive.confusing at times, but not offensive.

Just Another Black Man Almost KIlled By Cops

artician says...

I was raised by white parents, and I was also taught skin color didn't make a difference. I'm white, but I lived my entire life for ~18 years thinking racism was something from the past (I was very naive, and had very well-intentioned parents).

When I moved away to college (in an urban area) it was a slap in the face. It was also a slap in the face to be told that I was really racist and I just didn't know it. I know from experience it is entirely possible to be brought up in this country colorblind, but my being white just invalidates that opinion for most people.

In that respect, I won't raise my children to view race any differently than my parents raised me, but today I am far, far more racist than I used to be simply because I'm surrounded by this world that expects it at every turn. It's a somewhat lamentable journey backwards in that respect.

Police have no CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY to protect YOU!

yeah...none of those people had it coming...just cops randomly choosing people, mostly based on their skin color...

I really don't know how racist a person can be if they admire people like Ben Carson, Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, Sheriff David Clarke, Allen West, Clarence Thomas, etc.

See, it's not about skin color, it's about shared values.

I criticize Obama, not because of his skin color, but because I don't share his values. Put Allen West in there, and I'll vote for him twice.

@lantern53

Christ, dude, he doesn't "think" he is surrounded by racism, he clearly IS surround by racism! The events in Balitmore and Ferguson (and N.Y. and L.A. and Atlanta and all the other cities where this has happened before) clearly demonstrate that.

The media in this very video are trying to make it seem like smashed windows and burning buildings are a worse problem than black people being killed in custody by police! Meanwhile, the media barely even cover white kids rioting in Huntington Beach for reasons not even remotely as good as protesting racist oppression. How can you not see the racism that is right in front of your face--the racism that literally is dripping from the screen in this video?

It's not about "letting your skin color hold you back." It's about overcoming the odds that are stacked against many black people born into poorer communities, which takes incredible luck as much as it does incredible effort. Black people want an equal chance to succeed. They've been asking for a more level playing field for quite literally decades now and they still don't have it. Can you really not understand that anger? That feeling of powerlessness and rage? Can you really not see how condescending and patronizing it is for you to suggest people to just suck it up and get over it? How ridiculous it is to comparing overcoming low grades to get into college with constantly getting pulled over and roughed up (or killed) by cops simply because of the color of your skin? Is there no cognitive dissonance at all?

As long as you let what you think other people think affect you, you will not succeed.

You are so ate up with hatred you will never succeed.

You need to get off your pity train because it's going nowhere.

Maybe I've never been called a 'nigger', but when I was a child, my own grandfather said I'd never amount to a hill of beans.

There are millions of successful minority people in this country and they don't let other people's prejudices get in the way of their life.

You think you are surrounded by racism. You use that as an excuse.
Why don't you try and overcome it instead of letting it eat you out from the inside.

I grew up in a lower middle class environment, one working parent who dropped out of high school in the 9th grade. My dad taught himself everything he needed to know, became an accomplished pilot and treated the world as his stepstool. He taught us to be positive. We had no money for college so I did 3 easy years in the Army. I met a lot of black guys who had awesome attitudes and wouldn't let what someone else thought get in their way.
When I got out I went to college, a good one because they didn't want to turn down a veteran, even though my high school grades were mediocre.
I graduated and got a good job with the gov't, by the grace of God. I work with minorities. One of the smartest people we have is a girl who has a degree from William and Mary. She doesn't let her skin color hold her back.

I feel sorry for you because all you have to hold on to is this 'racism'. You let it defeat you. It is bigger than you. Until you decide otherwise.

Also, @lantern53 I don't answer you or any other illogical, irrational person cause you've already made up your mind.

I can't change your mind.

I'm not going to try.

I'm just calling you out on your racist, jingoist bullshit.

Because there is literally nothing I can say that would make you stop and think..
"Oh wow, maybe I DO have a bunch of privileges and advantages based purely on my skin color."

If you sincerely want an answer, message me when you feel like acknowledging facts.

Facts like the American Caste System.

And the fact that white people are at the top of that system.

India has one. Britain has one. America has one. The globe has one.

Acknowledging things like that would be a great first step to help fix problems in the global community.. let alone the black community.

This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read, and I should know about cops and racism because I've been a cop for 30 yrs.

We have black cops, we have female cops, we have lesbian cops, we have asian cops. No one here cares what color skin you have, we only care if you are a problem or not.

I have inlaws raising a biracial child because his father killed his mother, he is now in a Christian college and is a great kid.

My nephew, who did 2 tours in Iraq, has been dating a biracial girl for years. Nobody cares about skin color. It's about what kind of person you are. But you won't believe that because you DON"T want to believe it.

You are so deluded, it's sad that you go through life thinking this kind of crap.

GenjiKilpatrick said:

@lantern53

But seriously, cops are racist.

Yes Black Cops, Asian Cops, Hispanic Cops.

Being a police officer makes you racist.
Because the culture of law enforcements preys on the poor and minority groups.

So if you're told as a rookie "Go to the poor neighbor and patrol the streets"

Eventually you're going to come across desperate, uneducated people FROM ALL BACKGROUNDS.

You'll see gangsters, addicts, thieves, whores, etc.

If you mostly patrol poor black or white or asian or hispanic neighborhoods, you mostly begin to distrust any black or white or asian or hispanic person.

Being a cop eventually makes you distrust everyone who looks a certain way.

Those stereotypes about all black males being scary savage thugs starts to ring true.

Lawdeedaw says...

Actually, my mind is very easy to change. From being homophobic, to hating certain skin colors, I realize how stupid I was growing up as a person and how I had to unteach myself a lot of things.

As for my post; judgment is one thing. I do judge the car driver (And I judge the truck driver, although much less...) When that car intentionally rammed the truck it put not only their own lives in danger but other lives as well. That sort of accident can cause major destruction when 10 more are added to the equation.

I am glad neither the car's driver nor the truck driver were truly hurt. I am glad that people in our country only need to pay higher premiums in situations like this. That is a good thing and justice isn't wanting them dead...

If you are talking about my hatred for major corporations, then not sure where I shouldn't judge. Major for-profit healthcare providers, evil, evil. Same with car/personal injury-healthcare providers.

Sagemind said:

I'm happy to live a whole country away from your kind of judgement and justice. I'm not trying to be rude, but you let personal judgement cloud your vision and miss-represent the facts.

I know I'll never change your mind, nor will I try to. But you need to know what your statements sound like to others around you.

Sorry to hear about your family, I hope they are alright. I too was in an accident with my kids six months ago. Physically, they were fine, but my son is still shaken as he sees the car hit ours over and over, in his mind as it crashed into his side of the car against his door. An accident is a scary thing and sure sobers up a person. but sometimes, you need to slow down and breath. We don't think clearly when we let the adrenalin rule our thoughts.

Wow, you would make the worst cop imaginable.

You're all tied up in political correctness.

But...not everyone is cut out for the job.

"Your assessment and theory seems to be it would be proper to stop, search, and question all of them, and let the court figure out which one (if any) is the criminal. You wouldn't think the same if the skin color was 'white'...would you?"

Another childish assumption, and...
Do you throw out the race card every time your ass itches?

Cops don't care what color you are. But if you listen to any (moderate size town) police band, you'll find that the majority of calls for criminal investigation feature young male african-americans.

So if you get a call to look for a male black, it's rather pointless, don't you think, to stop any Howdy-doodie looking cracker ass white boy?

But you sit in your little cubicle, protected by people who would risk their life to protect yours, and view your little videos and you're totally clueless.

Try to be a little more logical and a little less emotional.

▶ Attorney shuts down police stop of black handyman

newtboy says...

Did nothing wrong? Debatable.
If, as you theorize, they had a call from blocks away and over 15 min before, and minimal 'race' description, it's wrong to stop ANYONE because the likelihood they'll have the right person is minimal at best, and there IS harm when an elderly man is forced to sit on the sidewalk with cops surrounding him, it's both disrespectful and humiliating to him and possibly physically injurious, and would make it much more difficult for him to get a job with any neighbors that saw it happen...all for nothing.
I would bet this lady does NOT hate cops, but does hate it when her elderly friends are profiled, suspected, accused, and held in a humiliating fashion based on nothing more than skin color (your assessment of their 'description').
Skin color is NOT enough description to EVER stop someone not at the scene, unless the skin color is purple. How many 'people of color' do you think there might be within 15 minutes of any crime scene? Your assessment and theory seems to be it would be proper to stop, search, and question all of them, and let the court figure out which one (if any) is the criminal. You wouldn't think the same if the skin color was 'white'...would you?

lantern53 said:

The bottom line is: the police officers did absolutely nothing wrong. But this lady comes out, she hates cops which tickles your gooseberries and instead of using critical thinking, you let your emotions get the better of you.

Try not to do that, it makes you sound juvenile.
