Airport Wants to See You Naked

Crosswords says...

She's excited!! I bet. And think how fun it'll be to try and find yourself on a HOT CANDID AIRPORT NUDE SCANS porn site. Look Ma' I got my picture on the internets!

I think the potential for abuse seems pretty high here, and I don't think comparing it to a gynecologist is fair. The guys that work the x-ray and inspection machines probably had to attend a 1 week seminar on how to operate the machinery and what to look for. I don't think that compares to the $100k or so of Getting an MD and the years of education/training/and ethical philosophy. Not to mention that the scanner and the scaned are basically anonymous to each other. If something happened you wouldn't know who did it, and they wouldn't know who you are so they'd be less caring about violating your privacy.

Phone Sex Pranks - Motivational Speaker

entr0py says...

>> ^longde:
I wish I had the ability, like these phone workers, to completely emotionally detach from what I was doing, but engage enough to be effective.

I think your emotions shut off on their own when you do a horrible job for long enough. But you're right it is remarkable that she can improvise while completely not giving a shit. . . That would actually make a great seminar topic.

It's Named: "Bodhisattva On The Metro"

Sagemind says...

Up north, it the town I just moved away from last year, there was a woman who did laugh seminars. Everyone would just get together and laugh for the whole evening. People I know, that went, told me it made them feel alive and amazing inside! A type of therapy that should come as natural to most of us is quickly being extinguished in today's society as stress continues to bog us down!

How To Manipulate Men

Creationist robot falters under rationalist onslaught

Xaielao says...

Did she just call Evolution 'an opinion'? lol.

You know, I wouldn't be apposed to teaching 'Intelligent Design.' Really, I wouldn't. But before I think it should be taught, I want to hear the theory. I have yet to see any interview, any seminar, anything about Creationism or Intelligent Design that actually proposes a theory.. and 'it's in the bible' or 'it's to complex, SOMEONE must have designed it' simply don't count.

If these guys had an actual theory, and not just an 'idea' or an 'opinion' but an actual, scientific theory (which requires MUCH stronger evidence than the casual definition of a theory), you'd think they would release a paper detailing said theory, but they never have and never actually discuss the details behind Intelligent Design at all. I really don't think they have one. I think in the end, their theory is 'because it's in the bible.' And that simply isn't Science. It is mythology.

I really cant stand Christianity. Not because if its beliefs, or its practitioner. But because it has consistently slowed down human progress for 1500 years now. How much longer are we going to have to deal with their backwards thinking?

I'd upvote it if it was funny... even a little bit. But self-congratulatory high-fives without bringing the laughs doesn't do it for me.

Is this guy giving an atheism seminar in a library?

Polar bear vs. walrus colony - from 'Planet Earth'

the effect of compressing the same jpg image 600 times

Sagemind says...

Here's some info from a seminar I had to teach "years Ago" on web graphics. These are from my notes, so I know there may some holes in the descriptions.

This format was derived and released into public domain. There are no laws or governing bodies which control or define it's use. JPG can represent any number of RGB colors up to 16.7 million. JPG Uses HSL (Hue, Saturation, Luminescence) in its compression method.

How it compresses...

1). RGB values are converted to mathematical formulas by your computer.

2). Data reduction begins using a process called sub-sampling.
-the brightness information is left alone while 1/2 of the other 2 scales are eliminated.
-they are eliminated by replacing two neighboring pixels with a single value representing their average
-this cuts the image size down by 2/3 in size.
-this also leaves the brightness intact

3). The image is partitioned into 8 blocks, using "DCT" (Direct Cosign Transform) and "Quantization"
-the changes in brightness and colors are identified and rounded off.
-(3's are rounded to 5's and 75's may be rounded to 100's)

4). Now, once all the rounding off has been done, there are a lot more standard and identical settings and values
-this allows it to compress via a standard and unencumbered "Lostless" compression method.

Generation M: Misogyny in Media & Culture

bleedingsnowman says...

Typically, woman rely on beauty and men rely on money. Is one really more superficial than the other? The reason woman have it worse is because they're not encouraged to make it on their own, but both sides are still trapped in believing nonsense.

Oh yeah...

Question:
"Why would a philosophy professor, especially a man, make a film about misogyny in media and culture?"

Answer:
To get laid. He focuses the video on a worthy cause, but still has to put himself in the center of it like every other self-important wanker. Why are we supposed to give a shit why HE would make this video? If he wasn't after recognition why even mention it? Are we supposed to believe he is the first man to realize the blight of the western woman's sexual oppression? He's not the first man, he knows he's not the first man, but he still claims some sort unique standpoint. But surely we MUST be informed that he is putting something before himself. If the reason is not to get laid, then he must be a pretty awful university professor if he's spending his time belaboring such a developed subject. Why make a film? WHY MAKE A five-minute youtube video? How about: why write a book, why give a seminar, in fact, why not stop simplifying a very complex problem into another case of simple victimization, and actually start understanding that western culture commodizes EVERYTHING, including woman, including men, including foreign labor, including the idiotic rappers who do those songs, including natural resources, children, creativity, and everything that has a word for it. Why not fight that?

Memory Improvement Programs (Blog Entry by rottenseed)

berticus says...

The answer is really "it depends"... because memory is more complex than you probably realise, so your question is very broad... in any case...

The "secret of a good memory" is thus the secret of forming diverse and multiple associations with every fact we care to retain. -- William James

"Memory improvement books can be divided into two kinds: popular and scholarly. Typically, the popular books are written by people with no formal training in memory; they are either professional entertainers who have discovered techniques for memorising a large amount of novel information for a brief period of time, or they are promoters of seminars and training sessions that, among other things, are designed to improve memory. Indeed, on the cover of many of these books are phrases such as "More Money! Higher Grades! More Friends!" Most of the popular books report the same techniques, and almost none offer much by way of explanation of how or why these methods work. The good news is that most of the methods do lead to substantial improvements in memory performance. The bad news, however, is that because many of these authors are removed from the scientific literature, these books often contain many errors, omissions, or statements that are simply meaningless. Furthermore, there is no easy or magical way to develop a perfect memory overnight. [...] The best way to improve your memory is to practice retrieving the desired information." -- Human Memory, by Neath & Suprenant (2nd ed.)

"The keys to developing an exceptional memory are neither mysterious nor difficult to master [...]. First, associate the to-be-remembered material with something you already know, to take advantage of already existing structures and organisations. Second, process the material in a way appropriate for the test. Third, distribute your rehearsals over time." -- Human Memory, Neath & Suprenant (2nd ed.)

im learning lymphatic breast massage this week!

peggedbea says...

manual lymph drainage is, as well as massage therapy, is considered more "alternative medicine" or "complimentary medicine" which is growing more widely accepted by western medicine... im also trained as a mammography tech and my hospital hosts monthly "complimentary medicine" seminars for employees. there are of course contraindications, such as chemo or if youre on a heavy dose of antibiotics, massage therapist are trained to know such contraindications and how to safely deal with them and this video assumes you are a healthy human being.

there is alot of nonsense spewed under the title of alternative medicine; light therapy, color therapy, rieki, quantum touch, etc. it gives us all a bad name as far im concerned. massage theory (minus all the vibrational medicince nonsense) is rooted in an understanding of physiology. im concerned with how the muscles, and all the cells and systems within your body function and work together. manual lymph drainage is alot of common sense. though i cant find any sort of major medical literature about it online. chiropractors will attest to it. however, many people consider them questionable medical professionals as well. i know several oncologists and oncology nurses who believe in its benefits. and cancer treatment centers who will prescribe it.

anyhow, its always good to flush your body of toxins, and lymphnodes are where toxins live.

massage has also proven to reduce scar tissue and improve muscle tone and circulation, breast massage is great post cosmetic breast surgery.

oh, furthermore, my current theory for why the mainstream medical community is reluctant to fully embrace massage therapy is because of all the nonsense "bodywork" junk that is not rooted in the science of physiology. and for a long time it has been more profitable to prescribe medication and treat the symptom rather than to prescribe prevention and treat the human.... thats slowly changing.

>> ^spoco2:
I'm upvoting because it has caused me to look up lymphatic drainage.
And it would seem to be something that is always talked about with the terms "which is believed by proponents" and "according to proponents".
So, therefore does not seem to have core medical backup with it.
Also, it seems that it may actually be dangerous in cases where a patient has cancer as you may be pushing the cancer cells through the body rather than them possibly being killed off by the lymph nodes. And also, it would seem, if you're getting chemo, it might be a bad idea as it pushes it through too quickly.
Or something.
I tend to like seeing a real medical practitioner come out with 'yeah, it works' or 'as far as has been ascertained it's at least harmless'.
So... yeah.
Plus it looks like she's trying to twist her boob off.
Oh... and they are spectacular.

Rock And Roll Is A Lie

13150 says...

>> ^HollywoodBob:
This must have been produced prior to the influx of Christian rock bands, that have become so popular with the young people.

Actually, given the bands they're citing, this was right in the heyday of Christian Rock. This was back when Petra was still rock (instead of pop), Stryper was going strong, and parents insisted on taking their kids to seminar after seminar about how even Christian Rock was the devil's music.
