Hellraiser - Trailer

lucky760 says...

Scary movies have never affected me. I loved horror flicks as a kid.

So even now as a grown-ass man, horror movie trailers are always just nothing more than meh, whatevs.

This trailer was pretty well done though. I actually felt my skin crawl a little. Maybe it harkens back to the original Hellraiser movies I saw as a lad and the way those creeped me out a little.

Man no matter how big of a player he becomes he still acts like a little kid at times.

I loved him when I first saw him in those Scary Movie bits with Anthony Anderson.

He is fearless when it comes to comedy.

What I find interesting is, whether we find this naturally "scary" or is it because we associate the sounds with feelings we may have felt when we heard them, ie during a scary movie. Does it work the same way symmetry does for your eyes? Meaning, the more symmetrical a person is the more beautiful they're known to be. So, I wonder if these sounds have some harmonic properties that just naturally are perceived as scary? I know that minor chords in music give off that vibe, but I wonder if there're a string of notes, or harmonies in particular that we just hear and think DUN DUN DUNNN!

I heard that Spiderman will be in this movie

When are they gonna start doing that? I wanna see some hollywood mash-ups. It couldn't be any more cheap than the shit that comes out now. And I'm not talking about scary movie 6. I wanna see some seriously funded footage of GI Joe teaming up with the X-men to fight the monster from Cloverfield who's been resurrected by Voldemort.

Ryjkyj - I actually agree with you on the Event Horizon part.. but within the confines of it being a movie it works for me. It's not perfect, sticking your finger into a black void? Uhmm.. yeah.... BUT that movie gave me a huge feeling of dread, and I can watch any given normal scary movie and walk out just fine. It's one of the rare ones that actually got to me. Keep in mind I saw it in a dark movie theater, on a ganormous screen with booming bass. The asteroid at the beginning shook the seats when it rolled by.

The other thing about it is, it IS related to Hellraser. Might even be considered a spin-off. How so?

"I have such wonderful things to show you.". - Event Horizon

"We have such sites to show you.". - Hellraiser

Both in reference to hell. Was the scientist in the movie becoming some sort of Cenobite?

Also the dark matter chamber resembles the designs on the boxes from Hellraiser.

I actually like that it ties in with the Hellraiser movies, and that's an area where others may or may not as well themselves.

I actually really liked Pumpkinhead. The original movie was exactly that: original. I reminded me a lot of Tremors; just a good ol' fashioned scary movie, one that didn't take itself to seriously.l

I had to ship over from the UK the widescreen edition as it's not available/OOP in the States. Upvote and great find.

Spoco, You're an idiot. My son plays HL2 ONLINE. not the actual storyline game. Moron. You really think a 6 year old could? Like I said, You have no idea what you're talking about. Why let him play it? Because he thinks it's fun. It *is* fun. He doesn't sit there crying his eyes out because some make believe people got shot. The bodies disappear. They don't lose limbs or anything. Jesus. Did I say I was a christian? No. I have him play where I know people will keep the porn sprays and cursing to a minimum.

The kid plays piano. My other kids play guitar. But go ahead and make pointless grabs at trying to prove your point though. *I* know my kid is well rounded. So do those that know him. Just because he likes to play shooter games, (just like most kids) doesn't make him or me bad. You however are a quick to judge asshole. And you're wrong. These games teach about teamwork, consequences, problem solving, and much, much more. But focus on the simulated "violence" of pointing a gun and going "bang" like kids his age have been doing since the creation of the toy gun. Actually, it doesn't even take a toy to point your finger and go "bang"

And you think that because I said that scary movie music frightens him that I force him to watch them? You are such a colossal dumbass. Ever hear of "overhearing" things? Kids do it all the time. I suppose it's also horrible that I taught him to read Where the Wild Things are. Or that I expose him to art, movies, or outside. That I let him ride his bike with *gasp* no knee pads! The horror!

And if you think its wrong to celebrate winning or beating anyone, at anything, you are what is wrong with this country. People like you celebrate weakness, and mediocrity and sameness. Screw that. My kid is an individual. And I'm damn proud of him.

If you think CS and Saw and Hostle are in the same vein of graphic violence, it's clear you have either never played the game, or just don't know what you are talking about. The key difference being SUFFERING. There is none in CS, or HL2. No pain is conveyed. And for that matter, my son wont watch scary movies at all. The music freaks him out.

Women and VideoSift: Why I'm a feminist. Guys, I quoted you. (Terrible Talk Post)

Aemaeth says...

In relation to female leads in movies, you need to consider that at a young age, boys tend to prefer male influences to female, while females tend to be more neutral. This is ironic, considering most of us are raised by our mothers or some other female caretaker (or a possible reason why). This is evident in entertainment most especially. For instances, J.K. Rowling used her initial instead of her name because boys don't like to read books by female authors (the initials disguised this). As another example, how many men do you know who went to watch "The Devil Wears Prada" without a woman in tow? Scary Movie 4 may be an exception because, while I didn't see it, the previews I did see did seem to suggest some sexual material (which counters the purpose, as I'm sure you agree).

This preference, weather socially developed or genetic, will definitely play a role in how well a product sells. The fact that movies, books, television, whatever tends to have more male protagonists than female is an EFFECT, not a CAUSE.
