Tesla’s TOTAL DOMINATION (new data)

I get the feeling from you that if you were on the Titanic you would be the guy that puts a scarf over his head to get a seat in the lifeboat.

Mexico is a sinking ship and we are the closest lifeboat around.

Take your scarf off and man up.

Trumps plan was working.
Biden plan was come on in and open the flood gates. No planning on trying to figure out how many people are out there ready to storm the gates..... He just open the doors and got a stampede.

Just a guess based on the rest of the photos, not an accusation. It could just as easily be juxtaposing strong family involvement VS absentee parenting. That said, her expression is not a happy one.

I paid more attention to the man's clothes and weapon than hers when making my guess. I honestly didn't notice her head scarf on my tiny screen.
The impression I've always had is that in many if not most middle eastern/North African areas where traditional clothes and weapons like he's wearing are common, women are usually banned from schools....at least until recently. I do admit that's a stereotype, and perhaps ignorant.

I don't see any evidence of that. Sure it definitely does happen, but it's equally ignorant to say that this kid is miserable simply because .... what? she's got a dress (and maybe a hijab... can't tell from the crappy low res video ) and is standing beside an older man?

C'mon jump up

Good dog, Cujo! Also, you know that mutt drops a log the size of a baguette at least twice a day and it practically takes a snow shovel to fling it into the neighbor's yard.

I use to have a tragically retarded Cocker Spaniel (and, to note, there is no other variety of that breed) and it was like the Goose that Laid the Golden Egg, only with dogshit. At least three times a day, this golden-furred, floppy ear'd mongrel would scarf down a can of Alpo, a cup of kibble and whatever food was left lying on the table -- the same table the cat always got smacked for climbing on, but the dog ... ohhh, no! It's CUTE when the dog does it! -- then make a beeline to the back lawn where it'd crap Mt. Everest. I'd have to trudge out the the back yard, shovel in hand, while the guy next door shot me the stink-eye because he was tired of fishing dog turds out of his swimming pool every day during the summer. This task is odious enough, but it's a thousand times worse when you're stoned and it's a million degrees out and you'd much rather be floating on your waterbed listening to Dark Side of the Moon in headphones while blissful AC-cooled air wafts over your twice-weekly washed body and not fighting your way through a black fog of Horseflies to reach a 1:1 scale model of Mt. Doom made entirely of a too-quickly digested overpriced slurry of meat scraps and offal that the canners couldn't fob off on Mexico.

It might not have been as bad as all that, but in my hazy recollection, it was pretty darned close.

I'm not sure why I told you all this, to be perfectly honest, but I did. So there.

An American-Muslim comedian on being typecast as a terrorist

SDGundamX says...

@gorillaman

The only thing I see failing completely is your absurd attempt at rationalizing your bigotry--more aptly labelled in this case by its proper name: Islamophobia. I don't for a second believe what I'm about to post will change your mind about Islam or Muslims in general but I do believe that this kind of bigotry needs to be called out when it rears its ugly head. And my, you went full ugly there, didn't you... comparing Muslims to rats and seriel killers? Classy.

Despite your protestations to the contrary, there are in fact Muslims who do not believe in God but for a variety of reasons (keeping peace with religious family members, maintaining a connection to their cultural heritage, networking, etc.) continue to attend services and identify as Muslims. This is true of many believers in all the major religions, including Christianity and Judaism.

You see, as much as you'd like Muslims to all be boogeymen coming to bring Sharia law down on the rest of world, anyone who has actually met and talked with a Muslim (and god-forbid actually visited one of the countries StukaFox listed) realizes that Muslims, like all people, are extremely diverse (again, despite your protestations to the contrary).

Indeed there are Sharia zealots. But there are also moderates and reformers and even liberal radicals. Mostly, though its just a lot of people trying to get on with their lives the best way they know how.

Now, I find most religious beliefs to be repugnant. However, I don't find the ideas expressed in the Koran to be much more repugnant than, say, the Bible. In fact, I'm less concerned about what is written in supposedly holy books and more concerned with how believers attempt to implement those ideas in reality. I do indeed find particular forms of this implementation, such as forcing women to wear a bhurka, disturbing (just as I find Christians' attacks on LGBT rights disturbing). It's important to note, though, that such practices are NOT universal. For example, in some Islamic countries like Malaysia it's enough to simply cover your hair with a colorful scarf.

On the other hand, other practices that you mentioned such as Female Genital Mutilation and virginity tests ARE NOT Islamic. FGM predates Islam and is still practiced in the locales where it originated (places such as Mali, for instance) that now happen to be Islamic majority areas. The Indonesian virginity tests as well do not stem from some universal commandment in Islam but from Indonesian culture which sees women as "the symbol of the nations moral guardians".

Again, I don't suppose any of this makes any difference to you. You want to see the world in black and white, us versus them, "rats" and "serial killers" versus you, the white knight who is just trying to save us all from our cultural relativistic blindness. And so the shades of grey I am describing to you will likely go overlooked. I would be happy to be proven wrong, but I suspect the reality is I'll receive some lengthy reply that can be distilled down to, "Islam bad, hur." Or perhaps, "All religions bad, but Islam worst, hur." To which I can only reply, that demonizing the practitioners of any particular religion is unlikely to bring about the reforms you seek.

Covering up 100 Years of Canadian Beauty

Sagemind says...

I got through the past three winters (in Candada) wearing only a hoodie. and it dropped below -20c more than I care to admit, and even to -30c a few times.

When I lived further north, I did have a more "appropriate" jacket, for weather down to -40c but I've never owned or worn a jacket that heavy in my life.

Edit: oh, and yes, I own a scarf, just not one that looks a dumb as the ones they use in this video.

Scarfs are for people from Toronto and Vancouver who really have no f*#king clue how to dress for Winter. A good lined hood and a touque will do just fine, and if it dips below -30c haul out the dickie.

One can easily survive almost any Southern Canadian Winter (the majority of our population lives within 100km of the US border) with a coat like this:

These videos are just getting stupid. There is and never was "One" way to dress in each era. Same as today, people dress in a large variety of different ways.
Sometimes we use scarfs, sometimes not, it depends. But I've never seen anyone look as dumb and fake as this woman does while she's wrapped in that scarf and winter gear.

Comedian Paul F. Tompkins on Political Correctness

gorillaman says...

Presumably you are able to recognise that Ofcom's pronouncements carry the weight of statutory force.

It is impossible to conceive of a free-speech doctrine that includes government agencies issuing rulings on whether a comedian's jokes are funny or not.

The BBC is obliged to take account of Ofcom's broadcasting code, including its worthless stipulations on supposed offensive material, or suffer sanctions which include fines; they have indeed been fined for violations of the very section upon which Carr is accused of trespassing, in the trivial Andrew Sachs answerphone affair for example.

Frankly I would prefer Jimmy Carr skin a dwarf and wear its shrunken hide as a scarf in his next appearance on The One Show than have our treasured public service broadcaster at the mercy of PC crybullies and the government guns that back them.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Canadian Election

Shepppard says...

There's a major difference between accepting religious freedom for ceremonial activities, and for safety practices.

I can understand and agree with them wearing anything they'd like while being in a ceremony as long as it's not disrespectful. What is effectively a scarf covering your face, to me, isn't disrespectful.

However, the argument that eastern religions should be allowed to not wear helmets on motorcycles because they don't want to take off their turbans is ludicrous.
