Searching for Sugar Man - A Rock'n'Roll Mystery
Curious that a trailer for a documentary about Sixto Rodriguez pops up when you've been trying to find more music of him.
One of my favourite songs these days is strangely enough a remix of Sugarman; one of these occurrences where you've got a song in your collection for years and you've listened to it a few times and never paid it much attention, then suddenly it hits you and you fall in love with it.
David Holmes presents the Free Association - Sugarman
the watchmen-and then all that was left was rorschach
I really just didn't get the point of making that movie. I fail to see what it added to an artwork that was perfectly fine in its original medium.
A truly visionary director, the likes of Terry Gilliam or Stanley Kubrick, might have revealed some new insight. Snyder just translated the pages onto screen and in a predictable manner at that, and the whole "graphic novel on screen" was already done by Rodriguez, so it wasn't even that technically impressive. The one part of the movie that worked was the title sequence
Opton Robot Bender
At least have the decency to put "rodriguez" as one of the tags?!
Fastest Wire Bending in the World
Someone better tell Mr. Rodriguez there's some(one)thing faster than he.
Sorority Pillow Fight!
I was going to comment: "oh.. it's nice seeing Michelle Rodriguez doing a peppy character, all cheerful and girly and whatnot"
Then the video continued, lol.
Everything Is A Remix: KILL BILL Edition
Tarantino would answer "so what?" Not because he is a dick, but because these effects/scenes weren't borrowed by accident. He has been open from the begining about the Kill Bill series copying vintage martial arts films. Pointing out the similarities is like pointing at Robert Rodriguezes "Grindhouse" and saying that he ripped off cult grindhouse films.
Battle: Los Angeles - Full, Theatrical Trailer HD
oh no, not michelle rodriguez again...
Battle: Los Angeles Trailer HD
Does Hollywood sit there and talk between themselves and go "Hey, (Movie X) is coming out, let's make a movie like that too!".
I remember thinking the same thing when Deep Impact and Armageddon came out, only now it's Battle:LA, Skyline, Monsters, etc etc...
ps. don't get me wrong, I'll go see both, one has awesome special effects and the other has Michelle Rodriguez...
Self-Induced Religious Fit
I'm bringing this comment along from the dupe since it explains some of what we're seeing...
O Lord, Lead Us Not Into Graduation
by Chris Mooney
Last May at Midwestern State University, an evangelical Christian student named Mary King made a very strong case against graduation prayer. She did so not by argument, but by frothing at the mouth.
During her spring commencement benediction, she asked God to forgive her fellow students for their sins. In particular she begged forgiveness for the sin of using their time to get a university education instead of devoting their lives to prayer. After demanding that her audience repent for their caps and gowns, King collapsed, crying and gasping for air. University President Louis Rodriguez, not recognizing these symptoms of Holy Spirit infestation, called an ambulance.
As a result of the incident, the MSU Faculty Senate voted 8-7 to remove prayer from future commencements. But President Rodriguez vetoed the decision. At winter commencement, student government President Gant Grimes delivered a much less sectarian prayer, which according to the Wichita Falls Times Record News began, "Lord, we come to you at this special time in our lives to offer our thanks . . ." and ended, "God bless you all and peace be with you. Amen."

Unfortunately, I can't find a publish date to know when "Last May" was.
update: This article appears to be from Fall 2003, placing the video in May 2003 or 2002 depending on how you interpret "last".

Do we really need another movie of guys walking around a jungle, getting picked off one by one by invisible aliens until a climactic finish where the sole survivor beats the aliens and runs away from their self-destruct device?
Aaaaeeehm.... Yes?
:-)
Especially if Robert Rodriguez has anything to do with it ;-)

That looks really interesting. I'll check it out in a bit, promise. Right now, I don't have 16.5 minutes to spare as I'm sucking-- er, I'm busy.

Hey, there's no hillbilly cornholing in this video, but you might like it anyway because you're a filmmaker. If you can tear yourself away from joedirt's cock for 16.5 minutes you might find it worth your while.
