ive seen something similar before, a lion attack a flock of piglets, and one of the pig piggies saw it coming.. so he timed a perfectly executed flank counter attack on the charging lion. awesome stuff

What's so unnatural about a sow delivering piglets? The place actually looked pretty clean, and while the concrete is unnatural its actually there for the health of the food. Wild Pigs aren't known for their natural hygiene, hence why they're often loaded with parasites, the concrete etc helps maintain an easily cleanable more hygienic environment. The biggest problem I see is that they're confined to a tiny pen.

what about the guy feeding meat to the tiger BY HAND. Wow, that seems like a bad idea.

The guy side of me has trouble admitting that those piglets are admittedly quite cute. On the flip side, the meat eater in me has no problem saying they also look like delicious lil' bacon bites.

I'm pretty sure it isn't because of the disguise of the piglets. Behaviour like this can be witnessed for various different animals. It's more of a natural mommy takes care about little ones thing. I don't know the english words for it but some German buzz words would be "Welpenschutz" and "Kindchenschema".

p.s. you're parents aren't the only ones who name animals after holidays... I had a roommate once who came from a farming family. Her parents would frequently name piglets things like, 'Christmas', 'Easter', and there were a lot of chickens running around named 'Breakfast', 'Lunch', and 'Dinner'.

For these kind of human traits - I always try to imagine what would be *natural* without any cultural or societal influence for humans. If there was no stigma or shame attached, would humans breastfeed to a much later age? I think the answer is yes.

In primal societies - a woman would be almost constantly lactating, providing nutrition for whoever needed it in her brood - an artificial age limit would just not be in the picture. If a 12 year old kid was sick, going back on the breast might be the only medicine available.

It's amazing - woman carry containers of repenlenishing high-energy food on their chest! What an incredible adaption.

I know for a fact that in New Guinea a woman may breastfeed a runt piglet if the sow does not have enough nipples.

What I'm saying is - try to step out of your Victorian influenced Western mindset of "what's right" and view breastfeeding as feeding, not sexual peversion - no matter what the age or situation.

Shucks, read the subject as "Piglets..." and was looking forward to Piglets theories.
