Damn I messed up we gotta go bald

Dad should check his shampoo for nair for the foreseeable future.

I'll never understand parents who think it's fun and funny to bully their kids and erode their impressionable children's trust in adults. I have no sympathy for them when their children drive them to the $100000 a year assisted living condos only to not stop there and instead dump their parents at the state run old folks home.

Infectious Disease Expert on the seriousness of Coronavirus

bobknight33 says...

The rate of spread (Ro) is said to be between 2.5 and 4.

That is the same as saying X to power of 2.5 or 4.

Would be best to shut down any County that is infected. Nip it in the bud.

The infected guy in NC last week got it from Washington state old folks home, Now we have7 official cases and nest week we should be 20+

If we can slow down the rate of spread then the Hospitals can deal with this more effectively. I think this wont happen and facilities will be over burden is short order.

On the bright side this burn through the world in few months.
Hope we all are stand standing then.

Why Is A Group Of Crows Called A “Murder”?

eric3579 says...

I like to think this (although scene would be better with more child murder)
but PBS says:
What’s a murder of crows?
A group of crows is called a “murder.” There are several different explanations for the origin of this term, mostly based on old folk tales and superstitions.

For instance, there is a folktale that crows will gather and decide the capital fate of another crow.

Many view the appearance of crows as an omen of death because ravens and crows are scavengers and are generally associated with dead bodies, battlefields, and cemeteries, and they’re thought to circle in large numbers above sites where animals or people are expected to soon die.

But the term “murder of crows” mostly reflects a time when groupings of many animals had colorful and poetic names.

Israeli crowd cheers with joy as missile hits Gaza on CNN

newtboy says...

You missed a few parts there...3 teens killed, Israel CLAIMS by Hamas, but Hamas never takes credit (and they love to take credit). Israel immediately bombs Palestine mercilessly AND 1 Palestinian teen kidnapped and burned alive by Israeli soldiers (there's no such thing as an Israeli civilian), AND another Palestinian teen is ACCUSED BY ISRAEL of throwing gas bombs only AFTER they are caught on tape beating and stomping the hell out of him while he's handcuffed and completely subdued. Hamas then retaliates with 1/1000 the force returned by Israel. Egypt, an enemy of Palestine, and Israel make a show of calling for a 'ceasefire' on 100% their terms without even talking to Hamas, then claims it's Hamas that won't cease. Israel continues launching more guided missiles at beaches, hospitals, and old folks homes, killing hundreds of civilians and then invades in full force, killing hundreds more, while Hamas shoots hundreds of essentially fireworks causing extremely minor damage and 1 eventual death....yet you think Hamas is the big bad guy and Israel is the poor innocent whipping boy.....Um.....just DUH.
Hamas started it IF AND ONLY IF YOU BELIEVE ONLY ISRAELI PROPAGANDA, but if you look dispassionately at the known facts, that's simply BS, Israel invaded first, shot first and continues to shoot more and more disastrously at civilians while whining 'we have to defend ourselves' (from the useless fireworks the Palestinian devils are shooting at us), which should really mean turning on the missile defense system.
What they are doing it offensive, not defensive....and I'm offended!

I know a lot more has been going on, but this is how I see it. 3 Israeli teens were taken hostage and then killed by Hamas.....1 Palestinian teen throwing gas bombs at police was arrested and beaten by the Israeli police.....Hamas launches hundreds of rockets at Israel costing Israel millions of dollars to shoot down. Egypt asks for a cease fire and Israel agrees...Hamas launches another rocket that kills an Israeli soldier....Israel starts launching there own guided missiles at suspected Hamas rocket locations.....killing 100's of Palestinians......This is how wars are started....the rest of the world is just the same.....we all are! Hamas stared it and if the Palestinians want Israel to stop maybe they should kick Hamas out....

How to Rescue Ducklings from a Drain Pipe

Is there any known truth to the idea that once you handle baby birds/ducks the mother won't accept them back/let them follow her around?
Or is that some bizarre old folk myth?

I Used To Be With It

artician says...

The only reason people become grumpy old folk is because experience gives them the insight to discern quality from tripe, and because the older you get in our culture the further away you become from the honest, cultural evolutionary changes.
All we hear at our age is the shit that's pushed out on the radio (if you even still bother with that). That media has been shit since before we were born. If you had the time and ground-level access to the culture younger people are brought up with today, you'd find just as many wonderful, legitimate sources of art, culture and change as when we were discovering it in our youths.
Teach people to assess things honestly if they're put in front of them by someone else. Is Youtube telling you what the hottest 100 videos are? The manipulation is pretty obvious, even if the wolf is wearing a different sheep this time around.
Look to the origins of whatever is the current greatest thing to find the true art, and as soon as a genre or medium finds popular appeal to the point that it's exponentially mass-produced and formulaic, move on to discover the next thing. You'll never grow old that way. Don't get angry! Get wise! (and more importantly, raise future generations to have that wisdom as well.)

I remember watching this when I was 19 and thinking how sad that was. Why would you end up like that? I mean, I listened to new music all the time, but I could also appreciate the classics frommy parents music. They just needed to be more open minded and progress with the music.

Now I'm 36 and this is practically my motto. Most music these days is vapid nonsense. Admittedly, most music in my day was also vapid nonsense, but at least there was a decent alternative. I dunno, kids these days, with their iDroids and their facetweets....

Black Woman Pretends to Be White, Job Offers Skyrocket

bobknight33 says...

The question was for you.

Do you feel that today racism towards blacks is from Americas long history of unfair treatment of blacks? I feel that for the most part that is a thing of the past. I agree with you that there are some old folk that were born and raised with hate and will someday soon die of old age

If that is mostly true then what keeps today racism alive? Whose fault is it, whites, blacks or both?

Yes, sensitivity training of hiring professionals should be enough. They are professionals and are to see past race. You imply that even proper professionalism of HR they still discriminate.

You asked a question bob, and you didn't answer it. I did. In addition, I asserted that I have a good idea how you would answer that question based on your history here. You have made your feelings about blacks and other minorities quite clear in the past and it would be hard to divorce yourself from that previous stance unless you're going to admit you're wrong.

You are also quite wrong. Racism against other white ethnicities is all but gone because the generation who engaged in that discrimination is all but dead. It still exists however. I can guarantee you there are people in the world that still hold derogatory views on their fellow whites based on nothing but ethnicity. slurs against the jewish culture for example are still very much alive. But it's just not much of a political issue as there are just not enough people who unite behind that argument.

Racism based on the color of your skin is still alive and kicking however. Your assertion is that it's gone just gives me more evidence that my assertion of how you answer your original question (which you still have not given us YOUR answer btw) is probably correct. Not only is racism against blacks still exist. There are still plenty of people in positions of authority/power that grew up in those days and think it's normal. So big difference there between that and white ethnic racism

Do you honestly think going to some sensitivity training somehow magically erases racism? Sorry, racism is a bit more ingrained and a class isn't going to magically cure some of being a racist.

So again bob, I feel I need to hold your feet to the fire since you threw a question out there and thus far haven't given your answer. It seems to me that you think the onus is somehow on the black people. and that white are in the clear (apparently because they've attended a magic class that cures people of racism). Would that be accurate?
