Brooklyn subway shooting has disappeared from the headlines

cloudballoon says...

LOL, Murdoch's Sky News Australia - the channel issuing more racist apologies (to avoid fines) than reporting on real news.

What's wrong with news of a NYC incident (with the criminal already caught) "disappearing from the headlines" in Australia? Don't have your own country's news to report? Besides, when the NYPD dig up more details, no doubt the networks will come rushing back again, they always do.

Tell you what. There's narily a peep of Australian news in the US media any given day. You don't hear any of the shit f**kery Morrison is doing now in the USA. Ask an American where Australia is in a map, a half of them will point their fingers somewhere near Germany. Or Brazil. Same chance.

Oh Bob, American don't care about other countries' existence, except for political reasons. This is just another example right-wing ugliness.

New York's Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has declared that super-size sodas are "unhealthy" because it encourages over-consumption and is a "waste of calories." The political edict has caused the drinks to be banned in the city, to much confusion and consternation from the public.

* They say it doesn't mean it is banned, but the NYPD (city police) can arrest, punish, or seize things from people who are breaking laws in NY.

Yeah I know it's not exactly parallel, but too fun not to reword for foreign appreciation.

It's funny because they are better than the current NYPD because you can at least fire them. Consider that the family members of murdered NYPD victims are forced to pay the salary of the perpetrators.

Just your everyday harassment, courtesy of the NYPD

GenjiKilpatrick says...

But yeah, this statement is just another example of your EXTREME, at this point willful, Naivety.

Are you sure you read that article?

Because the author reminds us that the only reason those ridiculous false charges were dismissed.. was luck.

New York Housing Authority will generally sit on any evidence for months.
Getting that footage would normally be a batttle in-and-of itself.

In that time, NYPD would engage in character-assassination.
Just like police in Ferguson with Mike Brown. Or Trayvon Martin. Or the man who filmed Eric Garner's death.

So great, a recourse that has an extremely slim chance even go to trial.
Even if it does go to trial, public opinion has already decided..
"Well He deserved it. He was a thug anyway."

And on the even slimmer chance that a cop gets punished for their incompetence.. the damage is already done and the victim/s already dead. i.e. Freddie Gray.

Cops will never be perfect, the situation will never be perfect, but the citizen has a recourse if cops misbehave, and it's called civil court. But until you have a case, i still think you should support the police because they are there to protect you.

Swedish cops show NYPD how to subdue people w/ hurting them

MilkmanDan says...

I find the issue of "stepping on NYPD toes" to be trivial and unimportant. What is much more critical is that American laws and culture would, today, tend to discourage bystanders from stepping in and helping as these Swedes did.

Ask any lawyer, and they'll tell you to turn around and walk the other way, because nothing good can come from intervening, and/or you'll just be opening yourself up to lawsuits. I consider that to be a great failing in the direction that America has taken since I was young (80s) and especially before then. Modern America sure seems like a much more litigious, narcissistic, and entitled place than it used to be.

Swedish cops show NYPD how to subdue people w/ hurting them

ulysses1904 says...

The video title couldn't be more irritating "Swedish cops show NYPD how to subdue people w/ hurting them". Should I assume it's supposed to say "w/o hurting them".

What's this, some condescending after-school special where we learn a life lesson? This is as dumb as Michael Moore cherry picking factoids about other countries and how much better society is over there. So fucking move there, I'm sure everywhere is Disneyland except for here in the U.S. I hate this stupid shit.

Here, take as long as you want. All the info and sources are exactly where he says they are, in the YouTube description. I've copied them here for you. If he hadn't provided all of these I might be inclined to agree with you. But he did provide the evidence, so you don't just have to believe the buzz words, you can actually check it out for yourself.

"By the numbers", which means "recent surveys", "studies have shown", "a nationwide poll", "let's look at some data", "overwhelming evidence has shown". All the statistical buzz phrases. I would rather see this issue presented in a ponderous TED presentation than this overly glib Michael Moore cartoon short.

To be clear, my problem is with the messenger, not the message.

Ellen Dance Dare Gone Wrong- With Cops

No other description needed.

Whether you agree or not to the dancing. AKA, trying to have fun in life. The Police basically assaulted him by throwing him to the ground. The have a choice on how to react to citizens. and this is how they choose to react.

Shameful.
