This Is A Trent Reznor Song - Freddy Scott

EvilDeathBee says...

I totally understand and appreciate where Reznor's coming from with Hesitation Marks, but I just can't listen to it. I tried to like, but after several attempts I gave up on it. I know his music has always been a reflection of himself, but I hope he tries something different next time.

BTW, I wasn't an angsty teen with I started listening to NIN so I haven't really grown with Reznor.

I've been listening to NIN for almost 20 years. I didn't know what to make of the album at first (wtf? major key?) but it grew on me. I'm not the angsty teen I was when I started listening to them. Nor is Reznor the same man who once penned 'Hurt.' He's got kids now--though I don't expect that he plays 'Closer' for them at home.

Regarding 'Hesitation Marks' as something of a resolution helps the album fit in the NIN discography.

Reznor has been Broken, fallen into a Downward Spiral, he's discovered The Perfect Drug, he thought he was Fixed, but discovered that he was still Fragile, recovered again With Teeth, started over at Year Zero, Slipped a bit, looked at his Hesitation Marks and remember that he has tried, and survived, Everything.

And this is a wonderful parody of his style.

I actually went to see the NIN/JA tour, when they went along with Janes addiction at the molson center, it was actually a bit disappointing. It's an outdoor venue, and because they played first it was still light out, so a lot of their effects were, well, lacking.

The band put on a helluva show other than that, though.

I think you might be right. Let's wait until it's released

I haven't listened to NiN since With Teeth, didn't realise how long ago that was. Will give the newer stuff a try,

I wasn't saying they are actually "formerly great", I was just worried that's how they were coming across; though having relistened to the whole Foo Fighters catalogue recently that might actually apply to Dave Grohl

I agree completely with that sentiment, and that is his main message but my contention is with Trent saying there hasn't been much of it. I completely disagree.

Nirvana, Foo Fighters, NiN were prominent in "the soundtrack of my youth", and QotSA a little later. I still listen to all of them from time to time and have a lot of respect for their music.

To say there hasn't been "much" great music that makes use of the new technologies that have come about just doesn't fly with me. I've listened to loads of great music over the past decade; much of which is decidedly electronica, let alone just incorporating digital effects.

If he wasn't cynical then he should have said "you still need musical talent to back this up; and that's why there's so much great shit coming out".
