Let's see... A baseball game lasts about 2 and a half hours
my god are you watching baseball on tivo with fastforward?! 2 and a half hours?! not in this universe. 4-4:30 is the norm.

with football(the real one) you get 2 halves, 45min of nonstop gameplay.
how the fuck can anybody call that boring?!
watching somebody polish their bat for 5min before taking 1 swing is not boring!? stopping a game so that a team of hulks can pat each other on the butts before they play for 5sec is not boring?!

anybody who thinks that baseball or american eggball are more exciting than football are crazy.

and don't get me started on circle racing, aka nascar. at least formula1 changes things up a bit with left AND right turns.

Gay McDonald's ad in France

Truckchase says...

So McDonalds is liberal now? :-/

These guys would show someone watching Nascar and beating their dog (which might work in some places) if it sold more Big Macs. While it's nice that we're in a place culturally that facilitates this as a message that will move product, don't think that they care about you.

SWAT A-Holes Murder Pets In Front Of Kids

NetRunner says...

There's not much more I can add to what John Cole said:

I can’t get over those assholes that shot that man’s pets over a miniscule amount of pot (and more than likely based on faulty information from an informant with whom they cut a deal). I’ve only had Lily 11 months (today!), but I would be out for blood if someone shot her, cop or otherwise. I’d be a helluva lot less rational than that guy was. At the very least there would have been a tasing on that video or another shooting (of me) as I lost my shit all over the place.

And why don’t we get to see pictures of these brave servants to the community? Why aren’t pictures of cops who do this in every newspaper and on every nightly show when it happens? They are obviously tough guys, of course they would want the press! Here’s Butch McCraskin, local member of the SWAT team. He likes football, Nascar, reads Soldier of Fortune, loves no-knock raids, and has tazed a teen-ager and bagged three corgi’s. He drives a big Dodge Ram truck with an NRA sticker to compensate for his tiny penis. Can’t you smell the macho? I wonder what he has cooking?

I’m wondering at what point Americans are finally going to have enough of this shit. They cut pensions slightly to keep the nation from going completely broke in Greece, and they are fire-bombing shit in protest. Here, unless you are a member of the elite you are a third class citizen, subject to any number of abuses to your life, property, and dignity, and no one seems to care or is too preoccupied.

Is Dancing with the Stars on tonight?

*** Update ***

The pit bull these tough guys shot and killed was crated. The corgi they shot survived was loose, but could hardly be considered a threat. This isn’t about law enforcement or safety to officers, this is about terrorizing people.

Not much I can add other than I'd be out for blood if anyone shot either of my dogs too.

I dunno what's broken in America that people feel so resigned about this kind of thing.

I guess it's that whole individualism thing -- it didn't happen to me, just some other poor dumb fuck, why should I care about it? Why should I stick my neck out, he was using illegal drugs! Plus, as we know from Arizona, it's completely okay to violate people's rights if you think they might be doing something illegal, like being here without the right paperwork.

Oh, and Joe Lieberman is talking about stripping citizenship from people who the government thinks might be associated with a terrorist group...

I'm sure this will all be made better when the Republicans take control of congress, because we all know they're serious limited government guys, right?

I don't begrudge people for enjoying the game, but it's patently *ridiculous* that it is played on so high a stage. It's simply not the display of strength or endurance that merits its appearance at the olympics. Should we introduce NASCAR racing to the summer games?

Pixar's Hidden Secrets - Easter eggs in their films

spoco2 says...

^ Um... I didn't need to do any 'research' as it was all obvious from the get go:
1. The design of Wall-E was not even started let alone anything like what he looks like in the movie at the time Toy Story came out. And seeing as they said that the meeting happened AFTER the first Toy Story had come out they hadn't even DISCUSSED the concept of Wall-E at the time that movie came out... so that's pretty much blown it from the first fake 'easter egg' right there.
2. Every one of their fake ones was a 'wait, that was too hard to see, let's go back and watch that again in slow motion.' If you'll notice, Pixar don't really do that for their easter eggs, they put them in plain (if somewhat easy to miss most of the time) sight.
3. They just look pasted in. (Admittedly this is the sort of thing any 'FAKE' caller can say with nothing to back it up)
4. Pixar don't put in things that don't belong in the world they've been put in... hence a Wall-E wandering around in a present day world of Cars isn't something they'd do... they may make Wall-E a balloon or a toy or something, but not a robot in a Nascar pit.

All of which struck me as I watched it the first time, all of which are pretty obvious if you think about it (especially the first one).

I jumped on as an attack on the general acceptance of almost anything on the web displayed by so many. It's so easy to dupe people, and that makes me sad for critical thinking.

Zenyatta - Amazing Comeback Win at the Breeder's Cup (2009)

brycewi19 says...

I completely disagree, westy. How can this sport be equated to rolling dice?

Yes, training is very much a part of it. What sport isn't? In fact I'd say training factors a lot more in to it than breeding. How many great horses sire other horses with great expectations that simply fizzle out? Plenty.

And how many horses come out of nowhere to give us wonderful stories - frequently.

Besides the point, when you get to these big races like the Triple Crown races and the Breeder's Cup, ALL the horses have strong lineage. So it really comes down to training and, to some extent, the cunning of the jockey.

This is a beautiful sport that, frankly, has eaten itself alive over the past couple decades. They haven't marketed themselves well to the public like other sports (see: NASCAR) over the years. And that's a shame. But I see a huge resurgance in popularity. Unfortunately, the sport won't see a big resurgance until there's a Triple Crown winner. And who knows when that'll be.

Epic Parking Fail!

spawnflagger says...

obviously this was a case of the floor-mat getting stuck under the accelerator...
Lexus just had a recall on the same exact problem.
once the vehicle was elevated (on top of the 2 cars), the floor-mat became dislodged, and the driver was able to calmly put it in reverse and proceed about their business.

Luckily no one was injured.
