Lauryn Hill: 20 Years Of Relevance

What Really Separates the Rich From the Poor

newtboy says...

*commercial
Tommy's a moron, John is smart. It's utter bullshit that they have the same intelligence but one makes only stupid decisions and the other only smart decisions.

Trait number 5 is also absolute bullshit. The rich consistently blame others for their failures and never take responsibility for them, only their successes....see DJT.

According to the narrator, I should downvote since I enjoy learning about the cells of a leaf.

Special Skill

Payback says...

Top Secret was funny. This wasn't.

My give up point was the Narrator during the "punch a hole in a guy" scene. It just went on... and on... and on... Much of the movie was like that. "SEE??? HERE IS THE FUNNY THING!!! NOTICE HOW IT'S FUNNY??? IT'S FUNNY!!! HERE!!! RIGHT HERE!!! FUNNY!!! HAHA!!! IT'S A FUNNY THING!!! OK!!! I'LL DESCRIBE IT AGAIN BECAUSE IT'S FUNNY!!! YOU SHOULD BE STILL LAUGHING IT'S SO FUNNY!!! HOW FUNNY FUNNY FUNNY WE ARE!!!"

You must not be a fan of kung fu....or movies like top secret. I am.
I absolutely loved how they did it too, using an existing movie and redubbing and green screening it. I wonder why haven't others done it.

Stupid done right is hilarious.

Amazing Facts You Never Knew about Keanu Reeves

Millennials in the Workforce, A Generation of Weakness

newtboy says...

Since you asked so respectfully.....
Taken one point at a time....
1)You are not a special, beautiful, unique snowflake everyone treasures. You are just part of the all singing all dancing decaying compost heap that is humanity. Your parents lied to you.
2) IMO, children under 18 shouldn't have smart phones at all, and should only be allowed to access a highly filtered social media if any at all. Both are highly destructive when misused, and children misuse things, especially when unsupervised as most are. I'm 47 and still don't indulge in either. (Unless the sift counts)
3) I actually think impatience is good....If paired with the drive to make what you want happen yourself and the intelligence to grasp the work required to make it happen and recognize your own abilities. Being impatient while expecting handouts should get anyone nowhere fast.
4) You escape the trap of being unrecognized by your jobs and easily discarded by having skills and making yourself invaluable, not by having no skills (or ubiquitous so worthless skills), social or otherwise, and just expecting advancement for attendance like your childhood.

I agree those he describes were dealt a bad hand....I disagree that this is unique to any one generation. We all had generational issues to overcome. That so many have failed to even attempt to overcome them to better their own lives and instead think the world at large owes them happiness, is at fault for not delivering, and must change to suit them IS a fault of their own, imo, contrary to the narrator's repeated assertions. It may be a flaw their parents fostered, but it's their own personality flaw now, no one else can fix it for them.

Why The Cops Won't Help You When You're Getting Stabbed

jwray says...

Cops would have been 100% justified in shooting gelman at any point after he started swinging his knife towards the narrator and before the narrator disarmed him.. Or at least kicking the shit out of him as necessary to stop his killing spree. Due process is for after the perp has been apprehended.

Climate Change Just Changed by 50%

newtboy says...

Ignoring the rambling narrator, the few numbers we can see say even 200 GtC passes the tipping point in over 1/3 of models, assuming emissions peak soon, decline to current levels by 2030 and then decline much faster (all total pie in the sky optimism) hits 2 degrees rise by 2100, and the best case scenario estimate with aggressive mitigation (that we aren't doing) and as yet uninvented technology is 250-540GtC.
That's total failure and unavoidable doom.

What Makes John Bonham Such a Good Drummer?

Fairbs says...

when the narrator talks about how it sounds chaotic even though it's calculated (in this case) is what I think makes a ton of music great... thinking sloppy drunk punk, jazz and blues going any which direction, moments in most live performances...

Super 73 ebike review: the best electric bike!

slickhead says...

60 lbs is not terrible for an e-bike. The extra pounds don't matter so much with electric assist.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ebikes/comments/6mz5vg/upgrading_parts_on_ebike_worth_it/
Also, the wider tires don't add resistance.
https://www.schwalbetires.com/wider_faster_page

I like the 70s style (and the copper finish on the edition limited of two bikes .... wonder what that cost?) but this thing is overpriced for the level of tech. If these guys put as much effort into e-bikes as they do hyping stuff on YouTube they might make a nice bike one day. As it stands this is simply overpriced. The narrator thinks he can just call it the "best electric bike" when it's obvious that he knows F-All about the technology. There are much better e-bikes for the money in this niche (within a niche) category alone.

Their 2018 Super 73 is $3200 vs $2750 for the Luna Super Banana

https://lunacycle.com/luna-cycle-super-banana-ebike-racing-edition/

• 1000 watt vs. 3000 watt
• 48V 15.4 Ah (740 watt hours) vs. 72v 11.5 ah (830 watt hours)
• 25-27 mph vs. 40 mph

... for $2,300 the Luna Banana BBSHD has similar specs (more likely to be street legal) and still smokes the Super 73 in performance.

Or get the donor bike for $1,150 and add an electric kit for a few hundred more. (which is exactly what Lithium Cycles did!)

What happens when a wild wolf approaches a pet dog

TheFreak says...

I think this narration makes a lot of assumptions.

That wolf was never domesticated. Domestication is a genetic adaptation that involves retaining juvenile traits that allow an animal to overcome the boundary that would instinctively cause them to flee or fight. This would take many generations. You can imagine how that adaptation would be advantageous to animals that benefit from living at the edges of human settlement.

There's no way to know why that wolf interacted the way it did but it was wild and posed a potential risk due to it's instinctive programming.

Happy that it remained an uplifting story. But it's not responsible to spread the narrative that you can domesticate a wild animal.
