Injustice in the Coffee Contest. Is this video about Coffee or not? (User Poll by therealblankman)

JiggaJonson says...

Oh and don't forget this one, she's just ordering coffee:

But the focus is on the trouble ordering, or poor service, when she's misheard as "beer" repeatedly (since she's in a tavern and they probably don't serve coffee). So even though Marge is focused on getting a cup of coffee (like Louis CK is) the focus is on the joke of her having trouble ordering coffee (like Louis CK with the "umina dubba" or whatever is coming out of the clerks mouth). DISQUALIFIED!!!

Europe: Lost Without Christianity

Wow, this stuff is really disgusting. How is this on CBS news? How is this not a fringe bloody Christian production? Disgusting. [...] HOW does this get onto a normal broadcast tv news?

You misheard. It was CBN news. "Christian News, 24-7".
http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/
Funnily enough CBN News (and their reporter Barbara Wintergreen) was the fictional American channel which supplied The Day Today with its US news segments, eg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DO9jGsgPTsk

Ooooooh... That makes much more sense. So yes, it is just another of the HORRIBLE propaganda bullshit stories that those fear mongering douches make.

cool, I can live with that

@Unsung_Hero .
Thats funny. this should start a discussion on this subject. We all have heard the internet versions of misheard lyrics, but I had a friend who, for real, thought billy Idol singing "eyes with out a face" was a plea of "Howza bout a date" ( gotta sing it to hear it).
I bet there are a lot more original misheard lyrics amongst the sifters.

Arrest my case!

I sure hope you meant "I rest my case" and you don't actually think it's "Arrest my case". It's OK if you did, a lot of people have done this before... no need to fret. I had a friend that thought the lyrics to Tina Turner's song "What's love got to do with it" was actually "What's love Doctor Do, Doctor DoLittle".
But it is rather funny! HAHA.... Sorry.

67 year old White Dude Told Him not to Fuck with Him

I didn't quite catch what caused the argument. The black guy was asking the white guy why a black guy had to shine his shoes or something, but that's about all I caught.

Sounds like the white guy misheard something the black guy said as he was walking by. White guy is going to something on Friday and wants his shoes to look good, and he thought the black guy was offering to spit-shine shoes. Black guy looks confused and thinks the white guy is making a racist comment. Things escalate from there. That's what I got out of it, anyway.

He's pretty tough at the end there, for someone who got his ass kicked.

Maddow Destroys Congressman Hoekstra!

MaxWilder says...

Didn't they know Hasan was in contact with that cleric in Yemen by reading Hasan's email? Perhaps I misheard the announcement, but that would not indicate that they were reading all of the cleric's email, just what Hasan had sent and received.

I just looked up the announcement and it isn't clear. Perhaps they are assuming that the timeframe was too short to go through Hasan's email, and that the intelligence community must have had this information already.

I don't think the comparison between those two phrases is a correct analogy. As I said before 'intents and purposes' and 'intensive purposes' are individual phrases with individual meanings. 'Could of' can't be used correctly because the 'Be' verb isn't being used at all and, again, there is a breakdown of communication as a result.

On a side note, you seem angry in this post. Chilllll we're just talking.

In reply to this comment by budzos:
It's "right" if you've misheard the correct phrase at some point in your life and are a moron who doesn't parse what he's listening to.

Yes now kids will grow up hearing it wrong, and so from their POV it will be right. That doesn't change the fact that saying "intensive purposes" is EXACTLY the same thing as saying "could of." It makes one seem like a fucking thoughtless moron who is not a good listener and doesn't read.

So by all means, be my guest, and use your fucked up phrasing for "all intensive purposes".

It's "right" if the words represent the idea you actually mean to communicate to both parties. It may not be the original phrase but that doesn't really matter in terms of the evolution of a language.

In reply to this comment by budzos:
Jigga, that comment really irks me. "Intensive purposes" is just not right. Feel free to use it though, if you want to sound like an illiterate moron.

Lately I'm utterly horrified by the large percentage of people on Facebook who seem to think you pluralize words with a fucking apostrophe. It seriously has turned me off like five girls I've had a long-standing hard-on for.

Michael Steele:"VA Manual Encourages Vets To Commit Suicide"

amburglar says...

Funny. So today I talked to my dad - who happens to be a viet nam vet with depression and dementia- and he was yelling and crying about how his government wants him to kill himself. He couldn't remember where he heard/read it and spent half of our phone conversation shuffling through medicare statements trying to find the evidence. I consoled him and told him that surely he had misheard or misread something. And then I got home and saw this.

This isn't the first time. I am so sick of this. There is NO accountability for the media. It makes me want to scream.

The Power Of Religious Beliefs

enoch says...

What are you on about??? I think you've misheard what he said in the video,

reading your transcript i must have,or conflated two dissparate points into one.
thank you.

i understand that mr harris was using islam as an example,i furthered it by supplying my own.
i shall attempt to clarify my point:
i have no problem with mr harris's premise,in fact i tend to agree with him.
here is my crux..if you will.
over-generalizations.
in my opinion his premise would have had FAR more veracity if he didnt indulge in such blanket generalizations.so while i would not wish for examples from each religion i would like his examples to be more precise.
example:what mr harris has issue with,as do i for that matter,is "fundamentalism" and the misuse of it's supposed authority.
the palestinian suicide bomber does not run into an isreali cafe ad kill dozens of people because the qur'an tells him to.he does this out of desperation against oppression of a military occupier and as a last resort.it is the RELIGION and the leaders of that religion that use dogma and doctrine to make such an act acceptible, even praiseworthy.
another example:
a devout christian who is pro-life,agressively anti-abortion,assasinates the abortion clinics doctor.this to any sane person is hypocrisy absolute, but this mans religious leaders have twisted scripture and doctrine to somehow make murder ok,all to serve an agenda.
the REAL fight is with fundamentalism, not religion.
the real fight is with those who,for their own advancement, would pervert another human being by amplifying their faith into a murderous fervor.
which mr harris speaks about, and i agree.
the only point i was making is lets point the finger at the real culprits, not those who follow peacefully in faith and in love.to make such blanket statements discounts rich histories, contributions to cultures and the humanities.a total population which counts in the millions.and in the case of islam...billions.

this was the only point i was attempting to make.i stated i agreed with mr harris, just not with his execution.i am not an atheist but neither am i a fundamentalist.i actually dont follow any religion at all..i just teach it.
i do hope i did a better job in conveying my point.
till next time...peace.

The Power Of Religious Beliefs

siaiaiaaaaaa says...

enoch

youve kind of missed the entire point of the video.

also you seem to think religion is JUST a tool to manipulate/corrupt/control whatever, and not recognise that religion is a lot more then that. It encourages irrational thought, and totally influences the way people think from a child upwards, in those crucial years when the brain is developing.

what do you mean, 'religion is just the mask, who is behind'. I dont know what mean by that - care to elaborate?

You say:
if you listen to mr harris's points on suicide bombers you will be no closer to understanding why these people will blow themselves up than mr harris is.to his credit even mr harris admits this but then speculates it's due to this silly notion of "72 virgins".

What are you on about??? I think you've misheard what he said in the video, or didn't listen properly. He says (ive transcripted):
the biggest challenge as a matter of discourse and debate and certainly the most frustrating challenge comes from otherwise secular and even non believing people. who are just reluctant to ADMIT how much mad work is being done because of religion in this world. I mean they either, cant believe that people really believe this stuff, (For example) so when a suicide bomber blows himself up in a crowd of children, this secular person will imagine "that wasn't religion, it had nothing to do with a believe in virgins and paradise, who can believe that? its some kind of pyschological aboration or caused by economic desperation or policies in the regiion, its not a matter of metaphysical belief"

I think the jury is IN on this - we KNOW people really DO believe these things.

harris' point of this vid was the acknowledgement people SHOULD be giving on how stupid religion is, rather than giving respect to it, and how they should admit its causing more bad and disruption then they give credit for.
Also, at no point is he just picking on islam - hes just using it as a simple example. You make it sound like hes just picking on muslims when he obviously isn't. He's talking about religion in absolute broad terms and simply gave a few examples to illustrate his point. What do you want, an example for each religion?

I don't understand your entire quote, basically.
