F/A-18C Breaks the Sound Barrier on a close pass

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: The Lottery

speechless says...

More from "MDB Communications" (the ad firm behind the D.C. Lottery commercials):

They won an "Addy" award for this btw. For whatever that's worth.

I gave this sift 2 votes up (in my mind) but also one vote down because it threw Tom Cruise under the bus for no reason. Joel Goodsen, Maverick, Ethan Hunt, Jerry Maguire, Les Grossman and Lestat de Lioncourt has nothing to do with this.

MacBook vs Yoga Dance-Off

excellent start to the flame war!

not sure about 8, because I immediately updated to 8.1 from 8... There is a way to just use old school local accounts, not tied to MS account in any way. The only downside is that you can't download (even free) Apps on the Microsoft Store until you create/link an account, but you can run any of the Win7 and earlier "Desktop" apps.
(Unless you have Win 8 RT, in which case, sorry you're SOL because it has no Desktop mode)

counter-point: OS X Yosemite broke many things from Mavericks. I still run Mountain Lion on my main Mac though. I don't sync to iCloud either.

I just spent the entire weekend fighting with my daughter's Windows 8 laptop.
The microsoft account pretty much hijacked the entire computer. We got locked out of the MS account and it kept prompting us to enter a "Code" to unlock it. It wouldn't send us a code.
Tried to contact MS but Apparently, the only way Microsoft will talk with us, is through our MS account -- their site specifically says, "and if you can't access your account, you need to create a second MS account in order to talk to us."

We ended up just abandoning the entire MS Account and creating a new one, and of course, that locked her out of all the Apps on her laptop. She basically had to make new accounts for everything. All because Windows 8 acts just like those viruses that lock you out of your computer, till you give them your credit card number!!

She can't even use her computer without logging into the MS Account.

Despising Windows 8!

Making cocaine in Colombia

chingalera says...

Here's a maverick idea.....

Replace the state-sanctioned tool of pubic school indoctrination/de-education with an 'actual' education miraculously providing a generation with the cognitive framework for problem-solving. Instill in the youth a tangible, effective foundation of critical-thinking skills instead of constantly drilling them with reinforcement of controlled behavior within a fascist police-state-society and preparatory for insertion into the workforce or civil-servitude. At the same time, legalize ALL controlled substances decriminalizing the individual's innate right as a human to do what the fuck they will.

Cocaine is no worse than hundreds of drugs or foods or habit-forming activities for that matter, control is the problem. A corner on the market by the cunts who are running the planet off a precipice for personal gain is the 'actual' problem.

Don't blame the substance, blame the abuse of power and a fiendish addiction to control. Drugs have done as much to create the world we enjoy today as the discovery of fire and using it to cook food. A few assholes want to tell you what the fuck to do with fire and spend billions to train monkeys to back them up....Fuck these enemies of humanity.

Or if people had sufficient cognitive ability to understand why it's not a good idea to consume it even if it was legal.

Clown Panties

chingalera says...

Not here...Her overall angry-bitch/feministavibe, fast delivery trying to pack everything into tight groups, a barrage of un-funny amidst a few giggles and overall scripted slant. Her comedy sparks to a niche group of folks-She won't last-Or, maybe, the quality of entertainment and performers will continue to slide, and she'll be a type of maverick average as art, film, music, etc. reaches a crescendo of awful for people with actual taste and a broad-spectrum of experience, pleasures, and sage wisdom...So yeah, well, like, that's just my opinion man...

Well ive watched a half dozen videos shes done and im guessing if you want to call her out on a few videos you could just as you could call out Bill Burr for some of his bits regarding women. I say go through all her skits and come back with the numbers. I would be interested to know. Until them I think her agenda is being funny. She is a comedian.

Bloom Boxes

chingalera says...

Here's a first hunt from nanalyze...
http://www.nanalyze.com/2014/03/will-bloom-energy-ipo-in-2014/

Likes been said time and again and as many a hopeful maverick has experienced before, the major hurdles are gas and oil and electrical concerns whose interest and prime motivation is business as usual and being the only show on planet. All these concerns have to do is send out a few lawyers, private thugs with Halliburton silver attaches filled with threats and cash and the shit disappears, as well as the inventor sometimes...

I can guess that there might be a lot of people out there invested in current energy technology that would be unhappy about this succeeding....

This report is from 2010. Any news since?

Escape From Tomorrow ~ Behind The Scenes

Lady Gaga Goes Nude On Video!

chingalera says...

I'll take this one: Bjork is in a category of Bjork all her own-Her vocal styling was unusual, maverick for the time-She's a multi-instrumentalist ( heard Gaga play the piano and sing acapella?... not very good) T

Iceland: Not many bands form there anyhow, and she was showcased at 11 on the ONLY Icelandic radio station at the behest of her....classical piano teacher-The girl worked her ass off in several iterations, always changing and pushing the innovative envelope.

Gaga writes trite pop tunes and dances around (quite un-coordinately so) in some pretty tasteless gear while claiming some mastery of taste and style, the same based ENTIRELY in her pop persona. Can't stand her taste in fashion and her music blows sell-out-show, chunks.

At least with Bjork the journey has some changing scenery-Gaga will age like the cheap vintages of Madonna or Mariah Carey, the latter of which has more talent in her wardrobe than Gaga has in her songwriting and musical ability.

At least Carey has a range and some control, gaga sounds like she's grunting when she sings. When you want that, pull out a frikkin' Throbbing Gristle LP!

I know....can't stand modern pop culture-very played, very tired.

Joan Rivers and Club Kids

Nah dude, she's had work done already here-You gotta know she's one of those maverick, Beverly Hills guinea pigs, her and Phyllis Diller have been competing since the sixties.

Upvote for Joan before her artificial transformation.

http://videosift.com/video/TEDX-Rupert-Sheldrake-The-Science-Delusion

@Sniper007 Quite the road less-traveled pardner but worthy of the task you've set before yourself. Ruperts' a maverick, snake-oil tinctured with hard science, faith fueled by invisible cosmic forces and brass balls. He used to be a regular on the old Art Bell Flour Hour-

He apparently, has been asked by the TED talk's cabal short of a recant, to please, "never come back," which is here on the Videosift, what you are being presented with in the realms of "health"and.....ahem, "science" by the armchair enthusiasts who fancy themselves experts on all subjects above mundane. You are now in the company of the marginally successful Disrupticons of the site whose ulterior M.O. is that of "Ointment Fly."

I commend and salute you, noble sir!

UK Threatening to Raid Ecuador Embassy to Get Julian Assange

Hybrid says...

"Last night WikiLeaks said he would give a "live" statement "in front of" the embassy on Sunday, two months since he entered it. He could be seized if it is deemed he has stepped outside the building's diplomatically protected zone.

William Hague, the Foreign Secretary, said the maverick Australian would not be allowed to fly to his newly adopted country and must instead answer rape allegations in Sweden.

How To Sit Behind Mitt

NetRunner says...

People in the press liked McCain, and had this preconceived notion of him being some sort of independent "maverick". Since Republicans don't really tolerate independent thought, he had to work really hard to convince them that he was done being independent and would be a hardline conservative, and in the process turned himself into a laughingstock.

Mitt Romney seems to have been hated by basically everyone, seems to have zero personal charisma, is completely out of touch with how normal people live their lives, and it's virtually impossible to find an issue on which Romney hasn't been on both sides of during his political career. It's not really a surprise that he's a joke right out of the gate.

If Romney wins, it'll be a signal to the rest of the world that America is either no longer a democracy, or is now so completely overrun with people who have no grasp on reality that it probably shouldn't exist anymore.

And I honestly think there's a 40% chance Romney will win, because there's an awful lot of people with no grasp on reality here...

>> ^raverman:

Is it just me or is Mitt Romney a laughing stock before he even starts campaigning in earnest?
I don't remember people making fun of McCain like this (or much at all until the Palin twist)
