Mumford & Sons - Hopeless Wanderer

Procrastinatron says...

None of the things in that list are even the slightest bit unrelated, and I think that you would be hard-pressed to give an actual, rational reason for claiming that they are.

No, what's happening here is that I jokingly said I find a band you apparently happen to like to be offensively homogenous, and you took real offense to it.

Now, look - if I had been fifteen years old, I might have liked Mumford & Sons. After all, I was completely into the craze at that point, reading Walden, listening almost exclusively to bands who took their names from animals and collectively dressed like day labourers from the early 1900s, but... then it got old, and it got old fast. Why? Because they never created anything knew. It was always accoustic, it always had the exact same sound and feel, and it could almost always be split into one of two categories - maudlin lovesongs (as in, "here I sit brokenhearted") or bright-eyed nature-romanticism (as in, "let's go into the forest and pick wild flowers and be happy FOREVER").

And now, Mumford & Sons are simply carrying on that trend. It's not a new trend by any means, and it's certainly not going to end with our current generation of band wagoneers.

And as it happens, I dislike it quite a bit.

And you're just going to have to deal with that.

You sound like an angry old man.

Mumford and Sons have some great songs and this is a lighthearted, funny video.

You seem to take your dislike of them and expand it into a condemnation of an unrelated list of things you also dislike.

Also people who are "offended" by pop culture and music trends should shampoo my crotch

A Powerful Spoken Word about Bullying and Self-Worth

I would have preferred it without the overly maudlin / cloying music, and that particular style of voice acting, but amazing work none the less. The crowd sourced animation is really affecting - you don't have time to get used to one style of representing / adding subtext to the story before the next one kicks in, and catches you unexpectedly.

Steven Spielberg presents "Oscar Bait"...I mean, "War Horse"

blackoreb says...

Regarding the theater-going-experience: there are some movies are just better when viewed on the big screen - if you can catch a late-in-the-run matinee, you avoid many of the crowd-induced annoyances. On the other hand, there are some comedies that I find best viewed in a room full of laughing strangers - those I see opening weekend.

I still hope to see the stage version of Warhorse, but for now the movie will have to do.

Seems like a cheap and contrived way to manipulate the audience's emotions. How many homeless people (with great dental hygiene!) have perfect loving beautiful families waiting for them?
Kinda belittles the complexities of a serious problem, but a nice fantasy despite it all.

I know some of his other work since like me he is portuguese and I think the same thing about all his stuff. He has a good eye for the technical details but his scripts are always ridiculously maudlin and designed to please the cute cat obsessed multitudes, "Oh, that is so nice and redeeming!"

BLERG!

This short is especially annoying since I just rewatched the entirety of The Wire (watch it! do it!) and I keep thinking of the complexity of the Bubbles character when compared to this tripe.

He should really get a new writer or something.

Wow, we've found the only person on the planet who liked One Hour Photo.
And this one looks to be just as much of a winner.
If you want to scratch an itch on the back of your head with a shotgun.

Ok fine, I liked Good Will Hunting too. What else is there but maudlin shit? Robin Williams for me is usually a cinematic shit magnet.

f it's all in your head, what makes it so great?

I've thought a great deal about your question, Fade. I guess the only thing that's greater than me, yet is still me, is *love. I know how incredibly maudlin that sounds, but it's true for me at least.
