Woman gets beaten in McDonald's and has a seizure

Well, this must be a real conundrum for left-wingers. Ghetto trash versus an LGBT'er? How do you determine who's the bigger oppressed victim? Those hate crimes laws must read like D&D. Transgendered is +2 but Armor Class is 5. Berserker Weaves are +3 except against McCowards which is +8.

Maryland is a "may-issue" state, meaning you have to beg your local badge to exercise your 2nd Amendment Right. If I lived there I'd bring a copy of this vid to the station.

Robot Chicken: The Origin of the Sundae (because of &*^$#@)

Skeeve says...

Want to know what it even worse? Laws like this are still on the books, and enforced.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_law:

"In Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma, New Jersey, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, car dealerships continue to operate under blue-law prohibitions in which an automobile may not be purchased or traded on a Sunday. Maryland permits Sunday automobile sales only in the counties of Prince George's, Montgomery, and Howard; similarly, Michigan restricts Sunday sales to only those counties with a population of less than 130,000. Texas and Utah prohibit car dealerships from operating over consecutive weekend days.

Many states still prohibit selling alcohol on Sunday, or at least before noon on Sunday, under the rationale that people should be in church on Sunday morning, or at least not drinking.

Blue laws may also prohibit retail activity on days other than Sunday. In Massachusetts and Connecticut, for example, blue laws dating to the Puritans of the 17th century still prohibit most retail stores, including grocery stores, from opening on Thanksgiving and Christmas."

I'm so glad these were ruled to be unconstitutional here in Canada in 1985.

So sad that this is more or less true. It leaves me speechless.

The Most Ridiculous Edited-For-TV Film Lines

MilkmanDan says...

I remember watching Jackie Brown on TV. Sam Jackson's lines with M* F*ers all got turned into increasingly ridiculous things that follow the same pattern:

Mother's Father
Maryland Farmer
etc.

AK-47 - for when you absolutely, positively have to kill every last Maryland Farmer in the room: accept no substitutes.

Man Faces Jail Time for Recording Plainclothes Cop

Psychologic says...

In Maryland it is illegal to record a phone conversation without both parties being notified. This could be an extension of that law:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_recording_laws#United_States

There may be an exception when it is obvious that someone is being recorded (like staring into a helmet cam), but that will be decided in court. Also, there could be a difference between recording something for evidence as opposed to releasing it to the rest of the world on YouTube.

The Maryland State Police are currently issued a Beretta PX4 Storm, but the officer in the video seems to be carrying something of the Beretta type, but I cannot tell. It definetly does not look like a glock which usually have a square slide.

When he holsters the weapon his thumb appears to come up to hit a decocker, which on a Beretta is on the back of the slide and ambidextrous.

I don't know if its standard protocol to have the hammer in ready position, most pistols are double action. However it does appear that he is placing the gun on safe when he holsters the weapon, he is defiantly doing something.

In this case I don't think he needed to draw his weapon. Some will say that's protocol; I say if the perpetrator was not armed then there was no need to present a weapon. In my mind the situation did not scale on the force continuum to have need for a weapon. Maybe soft physical force; the officer jumped straight to lethal force.

Heh, thanks Nordy. You seem to know a lot about handgun training, so if I may ask a question? Does he appear to take the safety off with his left hand immediately after drawing the weapon? Is that procedure, or is the decision to saftey off a separate event?

the story of your decade in 3 paragraphs or less (History Talk Post)

demon_ix says...

Ten and nine years ago I was finishing high-school, slacking considerably, but still getting decent grades.

Eight years ago I was studying to become an electrical engineer. I was slacking considerably, but my grading trend from high-school did not carry over to university studies. I was in an army program which locked me in for 6 years after graduation (3 years in addition to the mandatory 3, total of 10 years including the degree), and decided I didn't know where I was going to be 10 years later. Quit and joined the army the normal way.

Seven, six and five years ago I was in the Israeli Army as an IT guy. 1.5 hours commute to a job with pay that would seem low in third-world countries. Time passed, even though it seemed to stand still.

Four years ago I attempted to resume my studies, only to realize it wasn't just the duration of the military service that bothered me, I also didn't like what I was studying very much. I dropped out for good and spent my time cultivating my online gaming addiction.

Three years ago I managed to quit playing long enough to travel to the US to attend my cousin's wedding and get a pilot's license. I spent two months there, mostly in Maryland.

Two and one years ago I decided that if I have no idea what I want to do with myself, I should keep doing what I know. I got a general IT certificate and got a random entry-level job.

In between there were depression, wars, family deaths and many many hours lost to the virtual worlds I liked exploring better than the real one. Seems sort of dull written down, doesn't it?
