Border Collie Disc Caddy

newtboy says...

Absolutely yes.
My lab carried my disks, rags, place markers, and sometimes even my cigars in her backpack until she was paralyzed. She was my caddy.
My Shepherd would only chase the disk and “mark” where it stopped by touching it with his nose, but I never taught him to sit there so you had to watch him closely. He was not a caddy.
I’ve also known people who performed the same duties for friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, even for the “blind” disk golfer I played with a few times (he actually beat me). I’ve seen people tired of playing all day caddy for their friends quite often.
I’ve also seen caddies used in tournaments.
It’s not the norm, but it’s certainly not unheard of by any means.

Edit: is a caddy a prerequisite for it to be “golf”? If so, I guess there are a bunch of municipal bumpy ball whacking fields, but no municipal golf courses?

I will say, I’ve never personally seen electric disk golf carts.

So you're saying there actually are "disc golf caddies" that carry discs? Because if not, I think that's just a different category, and doesn't necessarily involve any carrying. Except when you give the mulligan signal.

ENZED UIM 2016 Jetsprint WORLDS ACTION

Slalom: a timed race (as on skis or in an automobile or kayak) over a winding or zigzag course past a series of flags or markers broadly : movement over a zigzag route.

Closed loop zigzag?

So, at 3:40---what precisely is the course? It's not an oval, it's not a figure 8--what is it?

Stick Figure War

BSR says...

You damn kids today!

Why back in my day, markers were PERMANENT! You drew stickmen (and stickwomen) and they would never move. Stayed right where ya put them.

Not only that, we had to drive 3 miles just to GET to school.

Kids today are a bunch of pansies.

So five co-drivers/navigators all mis-read this turn on during the walk-through? Or did road conditions change (wetter/gravel dumped on road before curve/someone moved a braking check point marker?)

Sheets Weren’t Changed at Some Hotels During COVD-19

BSR says...

Hotels should provide a visible washable marker to guests to mark sheets, blankets, pillows, surface areas as they leave.

Accident At Blake's Truck

jimnms says...

They really will bill you for that shit. I met a guy that was in a car accident. He got run off a road and his car hit a mile marker sign. The sign caused the car to flip over. He survived, but the state actually sent him a bill for the sign and labor to replace it. I told him he should send them his hospital bills because I thought those signs had to be designed to break so they wouldn't cause a car to flip if it hit it.

USDA: Eggs are NOT Healthy or Safe to eat

transmorpher says...

Refined carbs aren't great, but grains, starchy roots (potatos) and beans are a key component of every bluezone in the world where people live the longest and with the fewest amounts of disease. There's a video about it on the same channel as this video above :-)

You don't want to trade weight loss, for long term health is what I'm saying. Weight loss in of itself is going to improve health markers and general wellbeing, but the majority of people in the west die from preventable heart-disease, which is without a doubt tied to cholesterol, which eggs are full of (yes there are a lot of cholesterol deniers out there, but there is no valid research backing up their claims). Bob Harper is a good recent example, huge keto/low-carb advocate, had a heart-attack, despite being lean and athletic. He's doing the bluezone way of eating now....

Also have you noticed that nobody ever mentions the 4th macro nutrient in any diet these days? Fibre! The one macro nutrient almost everybody is deficient in.... but nobody seems to talk about it, except those selling fibre supplements. I find it weird personally!

From a Keto perspective eggs are the perfect food! My blood tests, weight, and sleep/energy improved by avoiding carbs. Really makes you think how upside down that USDA approved food pyramid is...

Unreal Engine's Human CGI is So Real it's Unreal

Khufu says...

what you saw was a mesh with a skin shader rendering in real-time so that's how fast it renders. didn't look terribly hi-res, the real advancement here is the quality of the skin shader(for realtime) and the fidelity of the facial rig, having proper face target shapes all blending together to get complex movements with skin compression/stretching/wrinkling at this level have historically been out of reach for anything but pre-rendered cgi.

They can probably drop libraries of mocap data on this with face markers that match those manipulation points you see in the video, and animators can use them to animate, or clean up/change the motion capture data.

and the skin textures/pore detail/face model are not a technological achievement as much as the work of a skilled artist, and the deformations are the result of someone who really knows their anatomy.

since there is no animation in this video, no performance, it's hard to judge how realistic it feels. the real trick is always seeing it animated.

Sorry, not quite there yet. There is no way anyone would actually look at that and think "oh, it's a video of a human".

The uncanny valley is one of those instances where the closer you get to perfection, the more obvious the flaws are.

But in terms of a video game character, this is very, very good.

I would love to know a few more details about it:
- how expensive is the rendering? We're just seeing a face on its own. If we drop it into an actual scene, will it still run?

- how well does it animate/lip sync?

"All white people are racist"

eric3579 jokingly says...

Why is the "i" dotted in "RACiST" and why is it the same size as the other capital letters? Is that code for a particular kind of racist? Also did she use the green color marker to match her clothing on purpose? So many questions.

A Closer Look - Trump's Lies on Wiretapping, Health Care

At marker 0.57 Kelly's arms look as though they've got finger bruises on them. Especially on her left elbow area. They're not small so it can't be from Trump.

How the NFL's magic yellow line works.

entr0py says...

You can see in that little clip the Hockey implementation was distractingly poor, the blue glow wasn't properly centered and the red streak was drawn on top of players in the foreground, it was all just way too bright and unnatural looking.

Plus I'm guessing is it's actually kind of fun as a hockey viewer to keep your eye on the puck and try to follow it. That's not really the case with the first down marker.

Funny how this works so well for football yet is so incredibly annoying for hockey.
