We've been catching up on our 2011s and I have to add 3 more.

Midnight in Paris - I don't want to give anything away, just go see it, but it's probably our favorite of the year.
Descendents - Very real. Very human. Great writing, if you liked Sideways and Election.
War Horse - There are plenty of reasons a critical person could take this movie apart, but I've got room in my heart for happy endings and Spielbergian splendor.

Issy wants to make fun of dag for liking Melancholia, but he also liked Midnight in Paris, so it all evens out.

We'll necropost some more in a few weeks when we legally view some more movies in a movie theater.

Issy and I just watched a great little indie film called 'The Station Agent', with Peter Dinklage in the leading role. Worth a look.

My doubt is definitely 'in dream'. It's pretty rare that I become conscious of my dream in my dreams. I actually dig when that happens, because I feel like that is the first step in being able to lucid dream, which I've never done.

I do have some weird sleep issues where reality and dream bleed into one another. I've got night terrors where I act out my fears in reality while dreaming (but usually can't remember). Usually I'm concerned for the safety of my family. Once I tried to carry Issy out of the room to escape some danger that existed only in my head.

I also occasionally get the opposite, sleep paralysis, where my mind wakes up but my body is still in sleep mode, which means I can only move my eyes. It's a very creepy and fascinating state to be in. To get out of it I have to muster this kind of unexplainable inner power. I've gotten to the point where I try to stay in it a while, because it is such trippy state of being. Still though, no matter how rational I think myself to be in full consciousness, that state is always frightening - because I am not in control.

I wonder if there is a video in existence with the power to make males feel objectified in the same way that Girls Gone Wild type videos make females feel objectified? I'd like to know what that feels like, but our culture just isn't even handed when it comes to gender and sexuality issues.

It's sort of like when Louis CK says that racial epithets like 'cracker' or 'honky' are not particularly offensive or menacing to most whites, they're just silly words - not to justify black racism towards whites. I applaud issy and hpqp's subversive rebuttals to the Christmas boob video, but I can't imagine too many males feeling oppressed by this. I think most guys who are relatively secure in their sexuality would find this funny. If anything, it seems like a fair trade: naked ladies for naked men.

Is this in Alaska? Some of our relatives took a cruise on up there and they flipped out and took pics of a lot of them. Bald Eagles are a common sight there, apparently.
