Barbie | Teaser Trailer

moonsammy says...

I'd totally forgotten about that one, but definitely saw it attached to something at the time. Of course in retrospect Phantom Menace would NOT be the #1 movie from 1999 to have watched, and neither it or Austin Powers 2 would even be in my top 5. We had Matrix, South Park, American Beauty, Fight Club, Sixth Sense, Iron Giant, Being John Malkovitch, The Mummy, Ghost Dog... so many good movies that year!

Yep. The teaser might not even be in the movie too. I remember when Austin Powers 2's trailer was funny with its Star Wars spoof as shown in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vRrZiMQl4k. That was such a teaser!

Bumblebee - Teaser Trailer

cloudballoon says...

Considering this is a Bumblebee movie, I like that the movie evokes the feelz of 80/90's robot movies like Johnny 5 & Iron Giant. I'm open-minded & I can accept a warmhearted TF movie and kids will love for the sweetness of some characters.

Non-sense explosions in Bay's TF movies (and a lot of other blockbusters) doesn't stimulate my senses and put me to sleep...

Though there are plenty of things in the book that werent from the 80s themselves. Mechagodzilla is from the mid 70s. Ultraman is from the 60s. Heck Monty Python and the search for the holy grail was in the mid 70s, but it really didnt take up till the 80s. Even lepordon was from the late 70s.

The oasis had mentions of World of warcraft and stuff from Firefly. Im pretty sure Halliday would have liked the Iron Giant, the 50s or the 90s version.

From what i hear, they couldnt get the rights to the Monty python bit. So they had to fill that part with something else, possibly the race. And they probably couldnt get the rights to war games either. The movie is gonna be a whole hell of a lot different than the book, but the general premise of the plot should still be the same

Spot on analysis. Don't get me wrong--I loves me some Iron Giant, but the point of the book is that everything significant in the Oasis (and thus significant to the Gunters) were things from Halliday's childhood in the 1980s. I do not doubt that an older Halliday would react to The Iron Giant positively, but it's against his thesis that the 1980s were a wonderful time to be a child.

Iron Giant wasnt in the book, but most likely heres here to replace a giant robot that they couldn't get a licenses for. Lepordon or ultraman or mechgodzilla

i trust spielberg to be heavy handed and this looks as heavy handed as ever. plus extraordinarily cynical with the use of all the warner IP used (iron giant, matrix, nightmare on elm st., akira, back to the future, etc.) and a completely incoherent trailer.

I don't know. I generally trust Spielberg but all the cg stuff looked pretty whack.

"Brave" - First trailer - Pixar/Disney

jmzero says...

I love that they got Craig Ferguson - his excellent voice work was a high point (in a movie that was all great) in "How to Train Your Dragon".

I don't know the director (Mark Andrews, who hasn't done much apparently). But it's hard not to give him the benefit of doubt when he worked on two Brad Bird films (Iron Giant and The Incredibles). He did storyboards for those, and both those films had incredible, unforgettable scene composition. I've seen Incredibles like 4500 times (my son LOVED it) and some of the shots, even just those that flash by, are positively inspired. The only downside is that it's hard to watch a regular animated film after - so many lazy shots, cut-and-paste jobs, and so much dead time. Anyways, yeah, that's a good sign.

Also, I think being in Brad's presence melts impurities out of your soul, so this should be an amazing film.
