Cow Cow Boogie

newtboy says...

Dude...Really?!? Then you need to get a grip and a sense of humor, AND go to anger management classes if something fun, cute, and hilarious like this costing you...what...3 seconds of your precious day is going to prompt you to violence. I mean...DAMN! What if it's a black belt bovine? (hope hope hope hope)
Stay the fuck out of my grocery store then....please. I don't want to have to knock all your teeth out for punching old women who (also) slow you down. ;-)

Blackbird Serenade to Dying Son

From the YT description:

"During the pregnancy, Ashley would often feel Lennon moving to music so Chris asked if he could bring his guitar into the NICU and play for Lennon, which he did for several hours during the last days of Lennon's precious life. One day after filming this, Lennon went to sleep in his daddy's arms."

The Middle East problem "explained"

I have the sinking feeling that by "his affiliations" you don't mean journalist.

Instead of insinuating, why don't you just call him a Jew so you can discount his opinions without wasting any precious time.

>> So if it was a friend who was down on his luck and desperate to get some quick cash, you wouldn't give a shit that he got run over because he acted impulsively and did something stupid?

That's correct. Things not specific to that but along those lines have happened in my life, and that was my reaction.

>> Or how about if you saw this happen on the street. You wouldn't call an ambulance because the guy got was coming to him?

There you go again mixing up not feeling sorry for someone with thinking he deserves it. Of course I would call an ambulance. I would very likely even rush over to try and help. I wouldn't *want* the guy to get maimed or killed. But if he did that to himself I'd just feel it's his own fault.

>> I call that basic human compassion.

That's where we differ. I don't.

A few days ago a team of heavily armed gunmen robbed a bank. Afterward they were involved in a chase and gunfight with police. One of the three robbers was shot dead and the others were injured.

Do you feel sympathy for the robbers? I'm sure you must. Do I? No, I don't, not even a little bit.

Not every negative event (that results in pain/suffering) in every single person's life is precious, nor does it warrant or deserve compassion when they intentionally caused it themselves and it could have been completely avoided.

Let's just call it a difference in philosophy.

Or how about if you saw this happen on the street. You wouldn't call an ambulance because the guy got was coming to him? I find that incredibly difficult to believe.

I personally believe that not caring for other people's suffering is the primary cause of suffering in the world. Like Chaos, I'm not saying the guy's actions are excusable in any way. But he's a person who was probably in a lot of pain after this and as a fellow human being I feel bad for him, even though it was a direct consequence of the decision he made.

You call that "bleeding heart."

I call that basic human compassion.

And judging by the shit that's happening in Ukraine, Syria, and Gaza right this instant I'd say there's far too little of it in the world right now.

One Of The Best Arguments For Deleting Facebook

Warmth- says...

NSA knows what's best for you.

I mean, surely their filtering algorithms have already analyzed a more accurate profile of you, than what your psychiatrist ever could? What with all the years of records of your internet searches, emails and videosift comments..

Seriously though, about this nice video, if you have a popular smartphone, no matter how you trust that fruit, droid or window logo, there's seriously no real guarantees that your activities are not recorded in whichever way, whenever. Any data on 'customers' is precious to these companies, or the NSA for that matter.

To be a bit cynical, I'd say that most people don't mind, they can't perceive anything strongly negative to come out of any of these privacy breaches. After all, so far the system has kept them relatively safe from the other ones, the evil ones.

To be even more cynical I'd say this hip guy, 10k likes on FB and all, seems to be quite smoothly riding the next generation's "My mom uses FB" disdain to .. I don't know? Maybe try to gain respect among this, certainly most sought after viewer demography, the younger generation, about to become consumers?

It could even be that he makes money on ads on YT views? But certainly Youtube, or their parent company, would never breach anyone's privacy, or make questionable sudden changes to their TOCs? Say, they wouldn't use the Chrome browser's or the Android OS's capabilities to use a connected mic to sift through recorded data?

Well, in any case, I've got to appreciate anyone who makes these matters more public and talked about, what ever their motives might be.

On another topic, as a loyal user of Google's mostly brilliant services, and mobile operating system, I was quite surprised to realize that I could see where I (or my phone) had been about, through their service here: https://maps.google.com/locationhistory

Luckily the feature can be turned off from the same site. I mean I'm sure it's off now, because I can't see any data there anymore..

I don't believe he ever had the intention of becoming an active member of this community. He spammed the video he tried to promote on the Sift Talk and as a video post with his account "ask4entmedia", which doesn't give me the impression of someone not merely trying to promote his media everywhere on the net. However, after I banned him, he made a new account and tried to use the "spammer" invocation on my account to ban me. He didn't even ask why he was banned or try to appeal the banination to take part in this community, he just tried to get retaliation for me having banned him. Afterwards, he was again banned by Lucky, then made this account trying to ban Lucky... When that didn't work, he wrote this post. This doesn't sound like someone who actually gives a damn about being part of a community, but someone who is pissed about not being allowed to promote his stuff anywhere he wants to.

Prospect - The Best Low Budget SciFi Shortfilm I've Seen

artician says...

I have a lot of things I think would be better, but I don't know if you mean wholly different ideas with the same setting, or things I would do different with this, or what. My criticism was mainly that elements didn't line up with each other to support the universe they created, and most of all the acting was so stilted.
If you want me to be specific about this:
They lay on that danger is around every corner, but seem to separate from one another regularly despite literally stating not to at least once.
Their attitudes and the way they move and behave in the environment are more like a couple people on vacation, and show nothing to support that this environment could kill them at any second.
I couldn't tell if the daughter was estranged from her father, because there seem to be this "get to know you" scene in the tent, but it could have easily been terrible acting. If it weren't, a single line of clarification could have surpassed that.
This stuff their collecting is extremely precious, but at a point of leisure in their tent they still have to open up their container and look at it to know how much they've collected?
Also, said resource has a stupid name. Almost as bad as "unobtainium" (I don't care if it's a real mineral, it pulls you immediately out of the story).
The girls attitude toward pursuing and killing the other soldier was almost lackadaisical.
They have pretty heavy respiratory suits, but it's possible to survive a slog through the jungle with nothing more than your head wrapped in tape with an air-hose?

I don't like long posts on the sift because at a certain point you just don't want to read anymore, so I'll stop there.

How not to throw confetti

ChaosEngine says...

People are waaaay too precious about weddings. It's supposed to be a fun day of celebration, stop worrying about everything being "perfect" (hint: it's never going to be perfect) and enjoy yourselves.

My brother wore the wrong suit at my wedding (he was best man and accidentally put on a suit too short for him). He looked ridiculous and my wife still cracks up whenever she sees the photos.

ah thank you for your kind words my friend.
much appreciated.

many here on this site of late appear to have acquired super powers and have the ability to discern my intentions.
which to my surprise are always egotistical in nature....the mind..it baffles.

the belittling, trolling and smug arrogance grates on my nerves and is so un-necessary.
all multiple forms of bullying i detest.

little kings..
in their little fiefdoms..
demanding respect while giving none.

i would chuckle if it were not so heart breaking.

but i am duty bound to stand up and point to the rot and the decay.
few ears listen and even rarer for a heart to be touched.

and even when i do that my words are ridiculed and dismissed.
corruption seeks to blind the seeker and deafen one who would listen.whispering always to the most intimate and despicable of our natures.
selfishness knows no bounds...it just wants more.

i am losing this battle.
my integrity..questioned.
my motivations...projected by those with lesser constitutions.
sacrifices ..all in vain, for naught but a harsh word and a suspicious glare.

as if i were the enemy.

where is the love?
the joy of creation and just being?
of connecting with another and rejoicing in that small moment of realization?

ah my friend,i struggle with those who choose pettiness over substance and to the absolute deafening roar of silence.the pervasive shadow of fear has infected and conquered more territory over the past year, seeping like a stain.

and the oblivious rejoice in their own ignorance.
thinking themselves clever.
doom has never before held such a beautiful and entrancing countenance.
we revel in our own stink and call it lovely.
dancing like macabre ghosts on a sterile landscape...
love and joy left long ago...
and we clap like monkeys and gleefully chatter as the noose is drawn tighter.
and the smell of death and fear grow stronger, but the allure of violence distracts us from our own emptiness.

what is it worth if there is no love?

ah..but this is why yours was/is so precious.
thank you my friend.

there is love,
and with that...
there is hope.

because i love you.
