Some of Hard Gay's episodes are really hilarious. This is kind of just an interview and summary. Nice to see what he's up to though.

It's hardly 'gay'.. just alien to westerners. I've seen a little on this before, it's a very macho test of strength, endurance and technique since you cannot rely on the ability to grip. The only place you can really get a hold of is the seat of the pants (no, not the penis <sigh>), so this is a common tactic as you see in the vid.

I HATE Hard Gay or H.G. as he is more commonly known here.

There are several clearly gay entertainers on Japanese TV and elsewhere (Hello, can you say Kabuki!!!). However, virtually all of them are in the closet, I realize this happens elsewhere (Hello, can you say Tom Cruise!!! ), but there are no regularly presented "positive" images of gays in the media here. If there were I would probably find HG funny. Unfortunately though he is in many cases the only "exposure" to homosexuals that most here get. As well, I would be less hostile if the "talento" playing HG (Masaki Sumitani) was actually gay, he's not.

He is not well liked in the homosexual community in Japan. (Good article about criticisms of HG at Wikipedia:

It is typical of the way anything "different" is presented in the media in Japan.
I turn off the TV or walk away anytime he's on.

Sorry I realize that this is "humor" but this really gets my blood boiling!!! I genuinely like Japan, but just like my "home" country there are some issues that need to be dealt with.

Those kids love Hard Gay in Japan! They don't see it as anything sexual! It just looks neat. I love it because hell it's good that the Japanese society is finally loosening to the idea of gay people. They were pretty homophobic.
