chingalera says...

The nature of the game of experts and critiques schooled or otherwise in the realm of art, is that even if these are 'replicas' or forgeries that some smugly fart-sniffer will STILL spend bank on the gamble-I hope that's Banksy is disguise, say what you will about the artist, the guys' a genius guerrilla marketing enigma-

Well, being stencils, they're all, strictly speaking, copies.

I'm curious about the catch - are they real banksys? Is that Banksy in disguise?

Baby Mountain Gorilla with Sigourney Weaver

I had to laugh a bit at "gorilla medicine". Just made me think of "guerrilla warfare" and "guerrilla marketing". A small band of doctors running around aggressively healing people using whatever drugs they can get their hands on...

The Necessity of Side-Businesses (Blog Entry by curiousity)

>> ^peggedbea:
im a single mom with 2 kids, i work 30 hours a week, middle of the night on the weekends, as a CT tech. ive been a sideline parttime indepedent contracting massage therapist for several years. i always enjoyed it, but never put much of an effort into making a career out of it. i saw an ad in the paper about 1 month ago to lease a space in a salon. so i did. my overhead is low, about $80 a week. and it cost me about $250 to get a few things i needed for my room. massage is a low overhead field. and the best marketing you can do is free. the most complicated thing im trying learn is about sales tax and how to pay it, supposedly the state is sending me a packet. if it takes off, i can quit my regular job and make $60,000 a yr working 15 hours a week, if it doesnt, its a fairly cheap hobby that i love and keeps me busy now that both of the kids are in school. i just finished up my 3rd week at the salon, and made enough to cover my kids montesorri school, overhead on the business, a week of gas, and a little bit more. not too bad. good luck with your side project!

That is fantastic peggedbea! That sounds great.

Don't forget to visit a tax specialist to take full tax advantages for both federal and state taxes. (i.e. car expenses, rent "storage" for massage equipment in home for equipment payable to you from your business, etc)

I think that only working 15 hours a week and earning 60k might be a little unrealistic, at least at first. Like for a personal trainer, it is hard to make sure all of your slots are full and then some people will not show up for their appointments, etc. You may end up sitting around waiting for clients to show up. Please understand, I am not trying to discourage you! I think that there are some requirements that need to be met to reach that number.

Lastly, but probably most important is marketing. It's been said that it doesn't matter what you are selling, but how you market it. I think that is an overstatement, but marketing is tremendously important. Luckily, this is one of my interests. I really enjoy reading marketing books. This is probably due to my interest in psychology. My marketing will focus mainly on online presences and physical guerrilla marketing. It won't quite be free, but definitely low cost. Remember marketing should be ongoing. I have several friends that work in the escrow industry and continuous marketing is very important. It doesn't have to be expensive, just at least a steady trickle of marketing.

You Suck At Photoshop - Vol 5

I would say no about the guerrilla marketing thing. If you read the Phebco website, you will see that its content has been randomly generated. All the pages are made of snippets that look like they were passed through Google Translation. It's just here for the Hoyle email address.

MyDamnChannel.com was created by a bunch of TV producers. They're just people doing TV, but tailored for the web. Nothing more. The "You sujck" series just happens to be spot on for this format, so they're milking it a little.

You Suck At Photoshop - Vol 5

I don't think viral means what you think it means. (Sift Talk Post)

pmkierst says...

I'd suggest removing the channel altogether.

Let's take the Wiki definition: "The term viral video refers to video clip content which gains widespread popularity through the process of Internet sharing, typically through email or IM messages, blogs and other media sharing websites."

Well, the top 15 at Videosift pretty much have to be viral by that definition, since Videosift is pretty much about finding and propagating viral video (if you go by that definition). The rest of the stuff would be wanna-be viral video.

If you go by what some people lean towards -- a guerrilla marketing campaign, then that vast majority of the stuff in the channel would need to be removed as it is either a) Not guerrilla in nature or b) Not marketing. Since wildly different definitions are used, the label is pretty much pointless.

Milan: Exploded Car with system Kenwood stereo. Cool!

joedirt says...

Damn it! I'm really pissed off. That is three mistaken upvotes in the new member queue. All for stupid viral ads.

THIS IS KENWOOD viral ad, hence the video title. The "blown up" car is made to look like it caught fire, or it did. But notice all the stickers. The perfect condition "Can't Stop Me" stickers. Here's more on the Milan guerrilla marketing crap (here) and here (Complete with a hostess in torn clothing)

Please downvote this crap!!! (Also notice the new member username has MILAN in it)!! Someone toss this.
