500 LED Extreme flashlight

sillma says...

I have a polluted mind, if I see the word flashlight, I read it as fleshlight the couple first times...

But yeah, what a pointless shit project. Using shitty lowpowered leds like those is pointless, there's more powerful flashlights on the market that are smaller than the D-cell maglite.

ssssSSSsssssSSSSSSssss...PHEWWWWWWWM !

Bike Lane in NYC

I was once warned by a cop not to ride without a headlight at night on my bike once. Fair 'nuf, but i was in well-lit park, not even on a proper road. He said that's why it was just a warning. Being a whiner, i still complained that i was a poor college student and rarely rode my bike (i walked and bused mostly), so dishing out cash for a light was hard. He suggested i ride holding a flashlight. Yeah... 'cause carrying a flashlight in one hand while steering a bike will really make me safer.

Yeah, you're lucky he didn't just give you a citation for not keeping your mouth shut. Dude, they're cheap. Like one big imported beer cheap. You don't need a mega-strong $200 off-road racing lamp.

Movie Theater turns angry voicemail into win.

Porksandwich says...

Im sure they have signs and warnings pre-movie about not doing either.

Besides if this is an actual customer, she contradicts herself. She says she was using the phone as a flashlight, but says she was texting and had her phone on silent. I'd be sympathetic if she couldn't see to get to a seat, but I suspect she couldn't see because she had a small glowing screen killing her night vision.

Bear Stalks Man

Sagemind says...

I had a mother bear with three cubs living in my back yard a few years ago. I first noticed the bears as I walked into the back yard after dark with my dog on a leash. I went through the gateway, into the back yard, next to a tree. The three cubs were in the tree (up higher) and the mother was in the tree about four feet above my head. The bear slid in the tree, scratching the bark - that's the only way we know it was there. It was coming down as I flashed the flashlight at it. I think the flash of light stalled it enough for me to run back to the front door.
I'll tell you - you don't stop to think. You just get out of there. Where do you go when there is no house to hide in? He mentions just being a short way off from camp and I suspect a vehicle which would be the next best bet.
The bear at my place, then came around to the back sliding glass door and and watched our every move for the next two hours. They stayed for a week feeding the cubs on our apple trees.

My dog slept outside every night before that but hasn't since.
There's much more to the story but it get's long so I'll leave it at that.

I thought about this. You're right, it isn't proof, but it is close to proof.

I suspect that this cop has had other issues before, hence the quickness of the response.

I have a great deal of respect for cops and soldiers. They do a hard job all while being a target themselves. I get impatient with folks who expect perfect behavior at all times. It's inhuman to expect superhuman responses.

And in this case, he the cop took a flashlight to his head and continued to beat him when he was on the ground. That's not okay. I'll give him the cop the first hit, if he really was at risk. The rest of the hits? He has other tools to use, that he is trained to use, and he didn't use them. Egregiously.

Granted, "egregious" is in the eye of the beholder. To me, this is egregious. To you it is not.

People complain all the time about cops being being on paid leave or desk duty whilst being investigated for misconduct/criminal acts. Management hanging someone out to dry to cover their ass or avoid controversy? Maybe. Proof? Not even close.

Am I the only one who saw the cop continuing to beat him when he was on the ground? It wasn't just the two flashlights to the head.

Can't see the guy on the ground at all at that point in the video, so how can you possibly say for sure any additional strikes weren't justified? You can't even see where the strikes are landing. This is important because strikes with a flashlight INTENDED to hit the head area would be considered a lethal force option by most police forces. A guy grabbing at an officers belt is a scenario where it would be reasonable to articulate why that level of force was necessary. A guy on the ground resisting being handcuffed? Not so much.

>> ^bareboards2:

The fact that he is on unpaid leave, rather than transferred to a desk while they investigate, is also proof that this was illegal and inappropriate and not his training.

And I do agree that it is simplistic to say the guy being beat was "seemingly calm."

That isn't the point, though. The point is the cop took a flashlight to his head twice, pulled him to the ground and continued to beat on him.

The fact that he is on unpaid leave, rather than transferred to a desk while they investigate, is also proof that this was illegal and inappropriate and not his training.

Question -- why would you want to defend the indefensible?

@Opus_Moderandi

Don't get all pissy with me b/c you're gay for Matt Daemon. Hardly a beating? Did you look at the same video I did?

A Mag-light weighs in at 2 pounds, for comparison's sake, a police baton weighs in at about 1 and 1/4 pounds. That's a significant difference when you're getting clubbed in the face IMHO. God damnit Mag-Lights are awesome.

I say "seemingly calm" b/c look at the other cop and the way he was behaving. I DON'T see the man trying to take his flashlight away. He was being shoved onto the hood of a car. Where would you're hands be exactly?

Once again, you're peddling this horseshit when some individual who works for the state does something that's against the law for him to do. There are always going to be people who break the law, or choose to to immoral things.

Your horseshit might be appropriate if it was a video about someone doing something bad, then getting a slap on the wrist for it (which would actually be the system failing). But you don't like those videos, because the anger it inspires makes people want to make the system better, and that just doesn't serve your agenda. You like it better if you can take advantage of people's shock and horror over abuse of power to ram your "free market" doctrine down people's throats.

Oh, and why's democracy in the tags? You think taking away people's ability to vote would make this sort of thing go away?
>> ^blankfist:

That's a flashlight across the face. Twice. And this guy's partner did nothing to stop this abuse.
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise; this whole statism thing is working out smashingly. Pun intended.

The Sheriff's office "Will continue it's investigation"???
What fucking circumstances warrant beating a seemingly calm man in the face with a Mag-light? And I mean, Mag-lights are the Cadillacs of flashlights.
Damn I like Mag-lights. What was I saying? Oh yeah?! Fuck the Police!!!

How is struggling with a police officer on the hood of a cop cruiser "seemingly calm"? Why did he try to take the cops flashlight? Hitting him twice in the face is hardly a beating. I'd say Mr. Tanner needs to man up. You know why? Cause fuck him, that's why.
