The simple tool that can open most US stores

newtboy says...

Unless they have intent to use them, or have knowledge that that’s what they’re made for, no? That’s what it says in the law, isn’t it?

“ Every person having upon him or her in his or her possession a picklock, crow, keybit, crowbar, screwdriver, vise grip pliers, water-pump pliers, slidehammer, slim jim, tension bar, lock pick gun, tubular lock pick, bump key, floor-safe door puller, master key, ceramic or porcelain spark plug chips or pieces, or other instrument or tool with intent feloniously to break or enter into any building, railroad car, aircraft, or vessel, trailer coach, or vehicle as defined in the Vehicle Code, or who shall knowingly make or alter, or shall attempt to make or alter, any key or other instrument named above so that the same will fit or open the lock of a building, railroad car, aircraft, vessel, trailer coach, or vehicle as defined in the Vehicle Code, without being requested to do so by some person having the right to open the same, or who shall make, alter, or repair any instrument or thing, knowing or having reason to believe that it is intended to be used in committing a misdemeanor or felony, is guilty of a misdemeanor. ”

I have this opinion, (that police (and some prosecutors) will ascribe intent to anyone in possession of any tools, even those with other uses, so they wouldn’t hesitate to do the same for tools that are clearly purpose built breaking and entering tools having been advertised as such and with no other use,) because I watched a friend be arrested in the 80’s for having a screwdriver and pliers in their backpack that the police called “burglary tools”. He did not have a history of burglary. The case was dropped when they instead charged him with <.5 grams of marijuana for some crumbs found loose in the bottom in his backpack and sent him juvie for 6 months. (I think he was on probation, I know the police wanted to charge him with anything….and did.). I was accused of having lockpicks once because I had picked up a few metal brush bits from a street sweeper in a parking lot and police saw me pick them up, arrested, then released me on site when the supervisor showed up and heard their story.

I think the last sentence of that paragraph puts him in danger, since he clearly has reason to believe at least some of the burglary tools he sells to the public are going to be used criminally.

I don’t want to see you give someone advice that could get them in serious trouble, I know you would feel terrible. You might be correct, technically without intent to commit a crime they’re legal to own, but in reality police and prosecutors decide your intent and I don’t trust them one whit.

My understanding is that it is legal for anyone to purchase and possess lock picking tools. Seller does have to obtain info regarding purchaser, but just basic stuff.

Here are the California codes regarding such tools.

Pipe Lining - the step-by-step process - Part II

spawnflagger says...

what's the max length of the liner? seems like it all had to fit inside that pressure vessel which turns it inside-out upon inflation...

Also, their video example showed a tee that was essentially sealed - what do you do for those? or what about elbows?

Another Trumpster recently arrested for fraudulently voting more than once in the 2020 election.
Can you point to ANY non Trump supporters caught voting more than once, because there are dozens of Trump-a-lytes caught so far. By caught I mean actually being prosecuted, not anonymously accused with no evidence.

Everything the right complains about turns out to be something they are doing more than anyone. I’m starting to wonder if you aren’t all actually socialist illegal aliens…it fits the M.O.

There is no way he got those votes in a legitimate way. I'm not saying he ran the steal but it was fraudulent .

New Rule: Words Matter | Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO)

bcglorf says...

@newtboy,

thanks for clarification.

So in your view, do you see the left objecting to any of the following things that kinda speak to Maher's point, and I think fits to the point of the 'left' being upset with him,

-Defending Chapelle which left would decry invoking their definition of dog whistle, transphobia...
-Pointing out a correlation between violence and Islamic extremism which left would decry as islamophobia
-Believing sports/olympics should divide competitors based on biological sex rather than gender identity == Transphobia
-(Big any famous celebrity accused of sex crimes) and suggesting they deserve a fair trial == failure to believe victims/survivors

Those are all things that have been pretty commonly defended by large groups of the left from what I've been seeing. Am I wrong?

Man Who Shot At Police In Self Defense Is Acquitted

moonsammy says...

In about 3 weeks the people of Minneapolis get to vote these fuckers out - ALL of these fuckers. I really hope they do, and that Mpls becomes the first major American city to fully defund / replace the police. I'm sure a handful will be retained or rehired, as we do still need some armed cops, but I'm thinking 90+% of calls can go to someone who isn't packing heat, roided out, and pumped full of "warrior" training.

I saw this footage when it was released last week, and it's both horrifying and unsurprising. I watched some of the live streaming during the protests / riots here and it fits right in with what I saw them doing elsewhere during that period.

So much for more Cyber Ninjas vote reviews….the CEO has said his company won’t do anymore after the hundreds of death threats he and his staff received after giving their report that found no fraud, no evidence of fraud, and widened the gap Biden won by by over 360 votes.
(And no, those results don’t legitimize their little review, it just shows that they weren’t willing to just make up evidence to fit their preconceptions under the threat of perjury and fraud charges.)

Since the Republican Party is a domestic terrorist organization, the death threats are not surprising, but it is gratifying to watch you all eat yourselves, like the fist fights among the factions at his latest rallies and the death threats against Republican senators that won’t break laws and ignore the constitution for Trump. Even MTG is getting attacked because her attempted impeachments indicate she believes Biden is the president, and that’s unacceptable to at least one caste in your cult.

I love it when a plan comes together.

This comment is only for people with a dark sense of humour. I apologise in advance.

For a popcorn theme they could probably have put in a popcorn maker and holes in the sides of the buildings. That way as the corn pops, the little popcorn people jump out.

I would rather be thought an elitist by middle school dropouts who think they know everything but in reality are 100% wrong >98% of the time and partially wrong the rest of the time than be one of them.
Elitist!?! Lol. Are we back in 2016!? What do you think that word means?
Elitist: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/elitist
a: giving special treatment and advantages to wealthy and powerful people
b: regarding other people as inferior because they lack power, wealth, or status
That hardly fits, I think the rich should pay MORE by percentage of income, not LESS. Technically "special treatment", but definitely not more advantages.

Q: Do you think Trump is elitist? Explain your answer. (Pretty sure you just decided elitism is good).

If you would read, and not just insanity that agrees with your preconceptions, if you weren't so smarmy and dismissive whenever you THINK you have some point to make or gotcha tidbit of data, acting like a third grader who just took the last desert at lunch taunting the next in line, your bad grammar wouldn't get you ridiculed so often and you would be far less aggressive about making your mistaken points, and would again receive less ridicule.

But instead you swing nonsense with vitriol and hate like a club, clearly trying to do damage, but your club is a fake made of foam rubber lies, making it impossible to not smack you down every time you try to knock someone out with it and stand dumbstruck that it bounced back into your face.
If you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough.-Jackass

This time you're again wrong about what you claim, you backed yourself into a corner by claiming this IS your area of expertise and by deriding others without personal hands on experience in the field, then you got the facts completely backwards....as usual...then hid from your mistakes....as usual.

Again, I'll ask for 3 examples of that 1/3 of what I say that's wrong. I post enough that you should be able to find 3 from yesterday alone. I don't really expect you'll answer, because I don't think you can.

Undercover: EXPOSING MAGA Hypocrisy on Afghanistan

luxintenebris says...

Hypocrisy is thy name.

Or at least it is widespread in the ranks of the GOP poodles.

Shortlist of their duality...

- Worry about the Afghani women but shut down US women's access to LEGAL medical services.
- Want to bring education to Afghanistan but oppose school curriculum here in the US. (i.e. their head is their Allah)
- Want Small Government (less interference) but use their power as Big Government to override local LEGAL authority.
- As Ayn Rand-ites, say the individual is important, but any difference of opinion brings banishment.
- Say government doesn't work, they get elected, then don't work.
- Say the Unborn deserve the right to live, but health services for ALL Americans go for a premium. (bring them in but take no responsibility for them - and still believe they hold the moral high ground)

...and it goes on and on and on...they say one thing; do another.

Would guess BK33 and TT both are English Only types as one reads their posts, it would only be fitting.

Anti-Mask Dad Arrested For Shoving Student

luxintenebris jokingly says...

four days outside a school? something like maybe a shooter or some stalking pedophile?

how 'bout the freedom from some loon and goon being kept away from children?

would be okay if he did spend a night in jail. with some wayward buddha who'd fit him w/an ass mask. then using his tongue in protest would benefit somebody.

again; not his fault. someone else. standing up for freedom. and the cops have to drag the mad dog away.

NYC's Anti-Vax Rally in 49 Seconds

newtboy says...

Not sure I understand. Neither article dealt with common sense, only that people with high iq's often aren't what most would consider "successful" and rarely fit in in a world that values predictable uninspired thinking and those who take the road more traveled over intelligence and unique thought processes.
I could be Steve from the second article if my IQ was 46 points higher. His mannerisms sound just like me, except I don't limit my references to three movies. I went to college for over ten years with no plan for any degree...but accidentally qualified for a general science degree anyway. I've never seen a successful career as the road to happiness, so many successful professionals are miserable...same goes for wealth. I've always thought, when you find yourself in want of something, don't ask the universe to give you more, ask it to help you want less. That road leads to contentment and happiness. Does that mean I have more, or less common sense than average? It definitely makes me abnormal, many would say unsuccessful....I think they measure success wrong.

visionep said:

@newtboy, that's an interesting theory. I'm not sure if the IQ would go up or not. Common sense doesn't always track with IQ.
