Un-American

kir_mokum says...

i understand and agree that he is unamerican in the sense of the "american ideal" but outside looking in, he is a completely typical product of american culture. he's reality TV, fame for fame's sake, wealthy without working, a hustler, the ideal jerry springer guest, the ideal wrestling guest, the son of racist nepotism, performative altruism (and then defrauds his own charities), he pathologically cannot accept being wrong/defers all fault to anyone else ("whatever, i do what i want"), he's weaponized ignorance, he's "hilariously" rapey, he's illiterate, a proud philistine, he's vapid pageantry, he's a christian who know nothing of religion/spirituality, he's 4chan, he's 8chan, he's tacky style with complete lack of substance, he's the personification of "fake it 'till you make it". these are all lessons i've seen repeated ad nauseam from american TV, films, music, podcasts, youtube stars, etc. to the point where they're past cliché that they're now entrenched americana.

i know that isn't the typical american but that is the most typical american america has sold to itself and the rest of the world.

How One Gameplay Decision Changed Diablo Forever

cloudballoon says...

No surprise here, it's its claim to fame of real-time action from the traditional turn-based RPG mechanism. Just like the Red Alert, Warcraft of its era.

Can someone just tell me what the one gameplay decision was that changed Diablo forever?

It's interesting how trump having sex with his own daughter is becoming part of the culture

"Get running
Start pumping your bunions, I'm coming
I'm the dumbest, who flamethrow your function to Funyuns
Flame your crew quicker than Trump fucks his youngest
Now face the flame, fuckers, your fame and fate's done with"

“Is it wrong to be more sexually attracted to your own daughter than your wife?” -Donald Trump

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/tamerragriffin/trump-asked-if-its-wrong-to-be-attracted-to-his-daughter#.xgvP4GxxG

What a sicko, I'm glad pop-culture is starting to pick up on it. Prediction, Ivanka Trump will write a tell all about how her father sexually assaulted her as a child and no one will believe her and they'll say that she's just trying to ruin his reputation.

"Why is she trying to hurt a dead man's reputation? He only joked about it for decades and was close friends with Jeff Epstein, a known child sex trader."

Jim Says Christian Leaders Will Be Murdered If Trump Loses

Jesusismypilot says...

Bakker is a loon but the video cuts off before he makes his point. I can only assume RWW shortened it to meet some agenda point.

However, don't let this get in the way of some good'ol'fashioned Christian bashing.

BTW, Churches are tax-exempt because they are nonprofits. However, they receive higher scrutiny from the IRS than other nonprofits and must provide more detail than other nonprofits to keep the status. Most rich preachers leverage their nonprofit fame to generate income in for-profit taxed ventures (books, videos, etc.). It's deplorable and immoral (IMHO) but not illegal.

Am I wrong, or is her fame not predicated on the relationship and life advice she gave for years while her own relationship crumbled due to her own massive cocaine/crack addiction?

Reminiscent of Limbaugh, somehow still respected by some despite being one of the biggest opioid addicts in the country while lambasting others for smoking cigarettes and less.

Arnold Schwarzenegger gets attacked in South Africa

newtboy says...

I hope they broke both of that little fuckers legs....badly enough that he can never drop kick anyone's back ever again.

Sucker drop kicking a 71 year old in the back, even one built like Conan, means he's abusing the privilege of being able to walk....remove the privilege. He was trying to seriously hurt an elderly man for fun. End him.

I also hope, assuming nothing serious happens to him legally because Arnold isn't pressing charges, that his classmates beat the living shit out of him daily until he's unable to finish school, and his family disowns him.

What a cowardly waste of skin. I wish Arnold (or the guards) had just broken him in half in self defense. There is zero sympathy for anything that happens to people who sucker punch/kick others, or those who attack the elderly, and nothing but seething murderous rage for those who do both.

Nail him to the tree of woe.

Edit: it's being widely reported that the attacker is known for doing this kind of thing looking for internet fame and publicity.

Hidden Camera: Jim Jefferies exposed for deceptive editing

newtboy says...

So what? Get off your high horse, buddy, the clip you were specifically whining about is American media....and we are the undisputed leader in partisan media and get honorable mention for bat shit insanity.

Yes, you are making those comparisons.
"The left and mainstream media do more to divide us than anyone else."
Even being exceedingly pedantic, when you take anyone, divide and remove the left and mainstream media, then compare them to what's left, "anyone else", you've made a comparison with anyone not left or mainstream media, including all right wing media. Any normal reader would assume you are making a direct comparison with only right wing media. You're coming off as dishonest as JJ or Trump here.

LOL....I've seen the right wing media nonsense outside America too, Murdoch isn't American and didn't start here, the big three have international fame and fans, and in Europe, Africa, Australia, and Asia right wing media is quite often even more dishonest and bat shit crazy than in America (see Russian or some African state run tv) so my argument would still apply...but you were complaining about an American television show, so maybe first take your own head out of your own ass, then blow all that backed up shit out....I think you're totally full.

I'm not American. I'm not comparing it to anything you obviously think I am. Think outside your own box. America is not THE WORLD. So blow it out your arse.

Alizée with J'en ai marre (the live sexy version)

eric3579 says...

18-year old French pop diva Alizée Jacotey is featured here, live on March 3rd, 2003. This performance is dedicated to the memory of Laurette Fugain, a young woman who had died from leukemia in 2002. Alizée was part of a live performance that was for charity work, encouraging people to donate the precious gift of blood & to raise money in the fight against diseases of the blood. The mother of Laurette, Stéphanie Fugain, was in attendance for this show, featured here at 3:57 & at the very end, 4:17
.
Alizée has an extraordinary reputation for selflessness. She offers a great deal of her time & energy towards charity work, helping in the fight against hunger as well as raising awareness for blood donations & the fight against blood disorders.
.
This was one of only 6 appearances where she wears her unforgettable short skirt dress, knee-high boots, & thigh-high black stockings while performing her smash hit song, J'en Ai Marre. This performance was done en direct live on French HDTV .
.
The music is composed by legendary composer Laurent Boutonnat while the lyrics are written by famed French singer & cultural icon, Mylène Farmer.
Alizée's popularity, thanks to spectacular performances such as this, has spread far beyond the borders of the great French Republic. -yt

18 Teachers In Oklahoma Calling It Quits

b4rringt0n says...

*quality and *promote

It was very moving listening to these teachers.

I lived with two newly qualified teachers in a house share a few years ago. Both of them were already thinking of leaving after only one year because of similar issues here in the UK. Low pay combined with incredible pressure to perform, discipline students, growing classrooms and zero support.

It's sad that we seem to prioritize entertainment, sports and fame (to name but a few) instead of education which is the light of civilization.

We Didn't Start The Fire (Historically Accurate Almanac)

drradon says...

One anomaly in this: I don't know what the song writer's intent was, but the video shows an artillery shot in association with Davy Crockett . Although there was a nuclear armed "Davy Crockett" artillery round during the 1960's, the context in the lyrics suggests Davy Crockett of the coonskin cap fame (played by Fess Parker in the mid-50's TV series) who was (wildly) popular at about the same time as Peter Pan (played by Mary Martin) was a big hit - and the only World Series win (1955) by the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Great answers. The correct answer is that we are all in a three way custody battle for a Pomeranian dog named Kobuk.

OK, we are all from Wasilla and no I have never heard of them before their fame. That would be cool if they treated their home chickens to concert.

The Battle Over Confederate Monuments

newtboy says...

Well, only a racist would celebrate them because of their racism. Good people might celebrate their accomplishments despite their racist actions, depending on their severity of the actions and on the greatness of the accomplishments.

Most confederate sympathizers I've known celebrate the confederate largely because it left and opposed the Union, not in spite of it. The see the absolute refusal to compromise as a merit. When ones biggest claim to fame is also their most infamous crime, it's difficult to reconcile or ignore.
I certainly agree, accurate history trumps sentiment, but history, particularly complicated and emotionally charged history is best represented in museums and text books, not celebrated with gaudy statuary in public spaces dedicated to a shameful part of our history and presented as if it were a proud chapter and these losers and traitors were really heros.

That's true. And only a racist would celebrate racists, right?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Presidents_of_the_United_States_who_owned_slaves

Time for Americans to do some real introspection. Slavery isn't acceptable because the founding fathers did it. Considering the Constitution and the Bill of Rights they penned, it seems all the worse that they could recognise the evil slavery was yet still profit from it (and they're not suddenly good people because they released some of their slaves, or released them after they died).

I think making sure history is well recorded and taught correctly is more important than tearing down a statue. If a statue or monument is left up then it needs to clearly state the history of the subject and how they were on the "wrong side of history".

I think it is possible to recognise the good and bad that an individual has done.
