Nope. A civvy is a dick to me and I can get in his face or tell him off. A cop is a dick to me and I have to take it, or I can choose to get arrested and charged with "interference" or whatever they feel like inventing. Cops learn they can act with impunity, within the law or not, because there's no consequences for them. It's only because cops can be dicks with ridiculous amounts of power that this is a problem.

If our cops usually held each other accountable for their own illegal actions instead of circling the wagons, then nobody would take any notice of these videos. They would be about as sift-worthy as videos of gas station robberies.

Are law enforcement agencies a good thing? Yes. Is it desirable that the officers have such disproportionate power that people who question them get arrested? No.>> ^hpqp:

A civvy acts like a dick, abuses his power (as boss, parent, etc.)? Bah, just an individual.
A cop acts like a dick, abuses his power as law enforcer? FASCISM! FUCK THE POLICE!!!!
Grow up and get some perspective people.

Seems like that law was designed specifically with petty harassment in mind. There does need to be some law to prevent people from blocking the street with terrible park jobs. But they set the bar for ticketing ridiculously low.

Parking spots are about 9 feet wide. So a foot clearance curbside and a foot clearance traffic side on a 6 foot wide car is about an 8 foot wide parking spot. That's an 8 foot wide parking spot with potentially no fixed obstacles on either side of the vehicle to prevent you from opening your doors and exiting. Which to me equates to more like a 10-11 foot wide parking spot if it's clear on both sides. You know how annoying it is when people park on the lines and you can't get in and out of your car without contorting your body and nearly decapitating yourself on the roof of the vehicle and the top of the door.

So one foot curbside leeway seems fine to me. Also, most lanes of traffic are 11-12 feet standard now, but were smaller in the past more like 10 feet. So a two lane road would be 20 feet and up. If you had parking on both sides, anything more than 1 foot clearance would risk there not being enough room for one car to pass between the two parked cars.

I'm not disagreeing with you that it's about rights. She did absolutely nothing wrong by recording them from her yard. I'm just saying that she did participate in the pissing contest, then starting yelling in the street when she was getting arrested. She had the whole thing on tape, so didn't need to start yelling. Basically I think she's a 'tard. BUT, I think the cops are even BIGGER retards! It could have been handled better by both sides.

Just being devil's advocate here.

My 2 cents: Everyone involved in these videos are completely retarded!!
The cops are retarded for sending 3 cop cars to issue tickets for minor infractions.
Emily Rose is retarded for playing the victim card too often.
Even though that one car was 12.5" from the curb, it's still technically illegally parked! 99.9999% of cops would have let that one slide (you know, using common sense and all) but this cop was being a retard for issuing a ticket (although he wasn't in the wrong). Notice one cop pointed out one car for her to film, but she conveniently edited it out? Perhaps it was 18-24" from the curb!?
In the first video, why did she feel that she needed to stand in her yard filming the cops? Nothing unusual was going on. Yes, she wasn't doing anything illegal by filming them. But the situation turning into a grade school pissing match. Both sides were harassing each other. Everyone involved is retarded!

It's about rights, you either have them or you don't. Rights are constantly being shifted in one way or another depending on federal law, common law and where you live. Common law often relies upon the definition of what an 'ordinary person' should be allowed to do, or how that person would think, or act.
Many people (as evidenced by the comments above) think that holding a video camera in one's own yard should be within their rights. Many people are also aware that the government uses various excuses to try to erode the rights and privacy of citizens - the 'war on terror', and the 'war on drugs' are a couple of examples. These same people wish to push back, and without people like this, the laws that protect your individual rights (that you take for granted) will erode.
So I guess my point is that whether or not you take your personal liberties seriously, some people do, and the effort these people go to benefits everyone.

Since I'm not allowed to down vote your comment. I do have perspective. I'm sorry you do not. A civvy as you call them and us, can not throw me in a room with bars and take away my freedom because he felt like and get away with it. A civvy can not beat the crap out of me while yelling "Stop Resisting" and get away with it. I civvy can not taze me for not complying to his demands and get away with it. That is the difference. Not all police are bad but the shitty ones make it bad for everyone. The camera is not a weapon, it is not a threat. It is a tool that even the police use. Why can us civvys not us it also? My, Prospective is, Don't oppress. Period. What starts off as a small thing can grow. Stop it now before it gets out of hand. If they start to believe they can get away with this. When will it stop? Taking a picture or video is not a crime. Throwing someone in jail for it is. Feel free to give up your rights but do not think I will allow you to give up mine.

You seem to have missed the point of my (admittedly somewhat confrontational) comment: cops are people too, some are dicks, and they will abuse their power like any other dick with power. I am all against oppression and power abuse, especially by those who are meant to uphold the law, but cannot help but feel that some people will jump on any occasion to vilify the police in general ("fascist!" is one of the more malicious of insults I've seen here on the Sift), which is immature, irresponsible and, quite frankly, quite dickish. You'll notice I didn't post this comment under a video of true police oppression, such as this one, but under a video in which a person is getting fined by an immature asshat.
I live in Switzerland, where any of the examples you stated (and even much, much less) would get the offending cop a nice sentence in jail (and a permanent loss of job) while the victim would go off with a handsome sum of compensation cash, so maybe I'm not one to talk. But from what I know, the US, as bad as it is, is not China. Yet, at least.
So yes, by all means we should fight for more justice and less abuse of power, but making sweeping generalisations about the police who, for the most part, do do their best to "protect and serve", is no help at all.

Alas, your efforts to be reasonable will fall on deaf ears. This is about as nuanced as most of the anti-police posters on here will get on this issue.
