Red Dawn Movie Trailer (2012)

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Exactly. I would like to see this dubbed into Pashtun.

Xenophobe chicken hawk neocons will eat this up - seeing no irony at all. They want our freeeeedum!>> ^packo:

"for them this is just some place, for us, this is our home"
the irony of that statement in regards to US foreign policy is epic

$5000 thrown from a hotel window in Seattle

bareboards2 says...

Except that all those SuperPacs? The majority of the funds have been traced back to 22 billionaires. So the "individual cap" has been blown to smithereens.

We are in trouble, friends. There aren't enough smart people able to smell the BS in these SuperPac ads. They eat it up instead, with fork and spoon.

Obama isn't above it, either. Don't much like that he is using the same tactics. I also figure he doesn't have a choice.

>> ^bmacs27:

I've been thinking about this more, and the Roberts court kind of had a point. If corporations don't have the right to speech, then what, can the government tell the NYT what to print? How many free ads they can offer? I don't get it. It kind of had to be this way.
Really, the main issue is that individual contributions are capped, but for those of us on the side of the working man that wouldn't really help us.

TDS-Poor Pee-Ple (Drug Tests for Welfare Recipients)

I support this kind of legislation. Even if it's totally wrong at least it will shut up everyone who says that welfare recipients are drug addled losers.

I bet Florida welfare recipients would disagree that the effect you mention justifies the means. I just think if it wasn't drug testing, it would be some other hoop to jump through. This isn't about drug testing.

You may be right.
But eventually someone SOMEWHERE has to put this theory to test. I'm sorry it has to be anyone but at the very least the citizens of Florida will now be used as a perfect case to NOT implement this sort of legislation anywhere.

Why?! It's just so random a requirement. To accept it as necessary or reasonable, you first have to buy into the bullshit that needy people are on drugs. It's like requiring drug testing for all gay couples who seek a marriage license, or for all gun owners. It's just a barrier.
It shouldn't be a requirement in Florida or anywhere else, and to rationalize or justify it as some sort of case study that other states can point to is just ridiculous. Welfare recipients shouldn't be treated as guinea pigs just to benefit a few idiots looking to score points with their dipshit lemming constituents.

Well that's the problem Fletch, people ARE buying into the fact that welfare people are drug addled losers because that's what the conservative base is selling to them and their party members are just eating it up. Nobody wants to be giving their money away to someone and having them just sort of kick back and mooching when they could be working and making their own money.

It's not about making anyone into Guinea pigs the problem is EVENTUALLY this was going to become a law somewhere. If you keep repeating something, no matter how false it is, and you get other people to repeat it for you this is what happens.

Just be happy we didn't have a conservative president who made this some sort of crazy Federal law for all 50 states to obey.

Me Personally? I know of 2 people that are on some sort of government aid that all use that money to buy drugs and pay for their rent. So I'm sorry to say it DOES happen sometimes.

In an election year this was a mistake for the republicans and a victory for democrats. I try to take some solace in that.

NASA: 130 Years of Global Warming in 30 seconds

dannym3141 says...

People saying "they need to express their data points more clearly, bla bla bla" - did you even look at the website linked in the comments? It has the source of the data listed there which you will be able to look at at your own leisure.

They're scientists. They don't present raw data to you, because you probably don't have the technical knowledge of the field to understand what those symbols and signs mean. What they do is interpret the data for you so that you can understand it, and allow you to go and look at the same freely available data for yourself if you think you can understand it.

Not everything is simple enough for people who are not trained to understand....to understand.

I mean this is starting to get flat out rediculous; people trip over themselves to question the expertise of scientists at places like NASA, but when a politician tells them everything is the other guy's fault they eat it up like ice cream.

@therealblankman it only just occured to me that your comment could have been a joke, but if it wasn't, then you should go and avail yourself of the methods available in the modern world to learn about things that we can't necessarily see with our own unaided eyes. We've got microscopes and ice cores and shit! Know what i mean!?

I hope you believe in King George, because he wasn't around in your time but we've got a lot riding on him and his descendents!

Aileen From Derry In the Red Chair (Graham Norton)

thumpa28 says...

Oh yeah a basic knowledge of geography is so boring! one country, two countries, two countries and a made up region, whatever. The north of Ireland is donegal although who says 'the north of ireland'??? Derry is in northern ireland.

Agree with the general sentiment about Irish women, they are all kinds of awesome. Theyll eat you up but youll love it.

>> ^papple:

>> ^Quboid:
Not to get political, but she (and I) are actually from Londonderry, not Derry, and it's in Northern Ireland, not the north of Ireland. If you mean Ireland in the geographical sense, as in the island of Ireland this is correct but this typically refers to the country, the Republic of Ireland.
It's a touchy subject and this topic has a little bit if history; where Graham Norton was brought up the city would have been referred to as Derry and places in Northern Ireland as being "in the north" without acknowledging the whole "terrorism" "one of the longest armed conflicts in recent history" "British occupation" can of worms.

If she says she's from Derry, she's from Derry. Also, I can't say that I've ever heard anyone use the phrase "North of Ireland" referring to the northern area of the Republic. The North/Northern Ireland/North of Ireland. I was typing out "she's from the North", as that would suffice locally, but this is the internet, so I just added the "of Ireland", thinking that nobody would be anal enough to correct me!

Thank you for the inquiry.
I find it fairly ethnocentric to call this "Terrible". By your "western" standards I think you are comparing it to what is "normal" for you and not what is "normal" for their society. I understand that the countries where this would be made/popular, it is the cats ass and they eat it up like KFC Gravey.
Thats why I changed it. Although it does seem subjective to whoever is watching it, thats why I changed it.
Hopefully that makes sense to you.

Yep, makes sense that you would have that view, totally.

I have always found it difficult to stomach entertainment that's based on real-world events or scenarios. It's even worse when it so obviously panders to fears born of ignorance. I'm sure the touching music and cinematic mastery will make people eat it up though.

argumentum ad hominem. it's not my job to do better; it's rockstar's job to do better. we weren't talking about me or anyone else until you changed the subject. i'd say that bethesda has been doing better open world games since the mid-to-late 90's, konami's silent hill series has been better at telling stories (read: making one feel like playing through a movie, which rockstar wishes they could accomplish), and just about any third-person game from tomb raider to max payne has a better 3-rd person targeting system than that broken-ass excuse rockstar has been trying to fix for 10 iterations or so. so pretty much everything that GTA has been mashing up into a huge meaningless sandbox of drivel has been done before in a less broken fashion, with more variety, less linearity, less repetitive gameplay, and without falling back on hopelessly cliche, hackneyed mafioso stereotypes and slipshod driving mechanics.
but if you wanted to give me money to write a game and pay some programmers and artists and designers, absolutely! i'd be happy to present to you a game that is better than anything rockstar has produced to date. until then, fanboy, defend this mediocre studio with some actual points instead an ad hominem logical fallacy... or just stfu about what i or anyone else should be doing better than rockstar. rockstar puts out unoriginal crap with semi-impressive tech and people like you eat it up, bloat their egos, and line the pockets of corporate lackeys that are afraid to do anything new with an old IP. there's better work out there. you must not hear about it because it's not mentioned in your gamepro subscription. so go preorder this re-hash bullshit, and rest ignorant of the knowledge that people like you are destroying this industry, and this community, by buying into the hype machine of some fake gangster-sim crap with nothing new to offer since version III. and don't tell me that I should put up with it because there's nothing better out there, wtf sort of defense is that?

GTA III was the last time there was any innovation in this series. I'm tired of sandbox missions with a half-assed organized crime drama throughline. I'd rather watch Goodfellas or something where there's real writing and acting. Rockstar games are overhyped and underdeveloped.

You...or ANYONE do better. Seriously we've seen other sandbox games try and fail...this is like criticizing WoW for being what it is. Do something better or accept that this is as good as it gets right now and shut up.
