The hockey puck glow was a bit weird, but actually pretty good for a few scenarios:

It is rather difficult for people who haven't seen much hockey to follow the puck. As you watch more of the sport, you figure out cues that help you track it, but I think that is a legitimate barrier that presents some difficulty in getting new fans of the sport. I think the blue glow helped a lot with that; would be nice if individual viewers could opt in our out of it on the fly. That would have been impossible (or prohibitively expensive) before, but with streaming video looking like the future rather than set channels it will be more workable.

When the puck travels close to the boards on the near side of the rink, it gets obscured and out of sight. The blue glow clipped right through that, so you could still figure out where the puck was. If two or more players were in a scrum for a puck stuck along the boards, you could see if it was moving and therefore know if a ref/linesman was going to whistle the play dead. That was quite a handy feature also.

Overall, the implementation / resolution of the puck highlighting in hockey was a bit non ideal, but it did have some real upsides. I don't think it deserved *quite* as much flak as it got...

No, and that is a method to combat Slow Loris. You can also raise the number of concurrent connections, decrease the timeout on connection response, setting up reverse proxies, and other methods in a similar fashion.

The problem is that you can also modify Slow Loris to work around those methods. The only certain way to block it is to use a webserver software that is not affected by Slow Loris, but then you can encounter other difficulties.

Like he said, for large companies that are prepared, Slow Loris is not nearly as effective. But for smaller web sites or for shoddily put together ones (a LOT of government sites), Slow Loris is a nasty DOS attack.

In the same way I find the moral dilemma of killing Hitler as a baby to be ridiculous. If you, as a time traveler from 2016, balk at the idea of going back to 1889 to kill baby Hitler, but you're fine with going back to 1939 to kill adult Hitler and maybe prevent WW2, then you essentially want hundreds of thousands of people to die in concentration camps just to make you feel good about your murderous action. Ridiculous.

Just a couple of points.

While concealed carry is legal in all states, that does not accurately cover the difficulty in getting permits. In many states, the requirements are so dramatic that it is effectively impossible to become certified. For instance, in California you may only be licensed to concealed carry if you can show a reason to need to carry AND get permission from your local sheriff or city police. In addition, one of the cornerstones of CCW is reciprocity, the allowing of other states CCW permits to be recognized in your state. California is one of the 'may carry' states that doesn't allow any other state or country's CCW holders to carry in California. You must be a resident. Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island are similar. In fact, in Hawaii and a couple of the others, offices that grant permission have been specifically told by superiors to not issue for any reason.

Secondly, other than suicides, CCW holders are far less likely to commit any sort of crime versus a non-CCW holder. With suicides, having a gun of any type handy is going to make them easier. It should be a win win for hardcore anti-gun people anyway, since they have one less 'gun nut' to worry in their sleep about.

In any case, I am a proud CCW permit holder. I carry every day and have never had need to use it. But if need arose, I would have it available. I don't like all of the whack job laws that I have to put up with in Texas, but at least that one I agree with fully.

Except you cant compare this to (car) accidents. You could compare this to occurrences of ambulance drivers driving through packed pedestrian crossings or firemen setting fire to buildings, soldiers driving tanks over cars on the highway etc. If that kind of thing happened once a week someone would notice. Someone would be responsible. Something would be done.

I only get involved with cops when speeding or parking and over here in central Europe it is a friendly affair of getting a fine or a reprimand. If I go to visit Germany or Austria I fear the police for the fines are heftier and a stern talking to in german is nothing to look forward to, in the east or south of Europe a small bribe and more extensive language difficulties are the norm. Visiting the US somehow always involves warnings about how to behave so as not to get killed by cops. Go figure.

True, everyone in service has difficulty with some customers and there are such incidents.

However, Uber drivers get paid shit, especially after taxes, fuel, maintenance, and vehicle costs. They have no training or support and there's no only minimal screening. Uber is a totally predatory model that capitalizes on drivers who are desperate or too stupid to know they're being abused. All the while there's no real reason Ubers shouldn't be legislated the same as cabs except the system is corrupt and allows the wealthy to come in and make their own rules.

@dannym3141 Yes, it does have a lot to do with people having to scoot around the back of the camera. It can take a bit of time to choreograph all the actor blocking and camera movements. In this piece there was no dialogue or field sound captured, so it wasn't as difficult as some of the projects I remember crewing on when I was in school a hundred years ago.

Hahaha, it does kinda look like it is 35 pixels, sorry about the poor quality of the image. I found this on Youtube, and I think the transfer from film to video might not have been of the highest quality. Not sure though. I added the bit about the difficulty a single-shot like this is to get in the can.

Also does 35mm refer to the size of the pixels in the video? Quality really lets it down, which seems strange they'd talk about the difficulty of producing it but not bother to spend more than 10 minutes uploading the video.
