the lie that is the liberal politician-chris hedges

Janus says...

While I have long understood that most Democrat politicians are just more sneaky about their corporate masters than their Republican counterparts, I don't plan to watch this due to the obvious purpose behind RT (as run by the Russian government) doing a piece on it.

Jesse Williams' fiery BET Awards Speech

bobknight33 says...

Figures this is a @newtboy post.

YEP the Democrats have been dividing and oppression blacks for 200 + years. I guess Jesse Williams did not get the memo.

There are more black on black murders than cops killing blacks. What a dumb shit closed minded this fool is.

Yep white people are more complaint towards cops thatn out black counterparts. Maybe some need their Inner White Girl power

What Are You? - Kurzgesagt

MilkmanDan says...

Cells have no "purpose"?

I think that depends on how you define "purpose". I don't think humans (or other animals / organisms) have any particular intrinsic purpose. At least, nothing granted to us by a higher power or outside influence or whatever. We assign purpose to ourselves, and to other fuzzy-boundary collections of things. Things that are "alive" exist to use energy, move, reproduce, etc. Things that are "tools" exist to be a preferable means of accomplishing some task. Etc.

If any of those things have "purpose", certainly cells can have a "purpose" as well. Neurons exist to transfer bio-electric currents. Rod and cone cells in our eyes exist to react to light in general or particular wavelengths of light.

I don't think that we have any physical or intangible soul that serves as the core of our being. We have cells, organs, and organ systems that make up a "meat computer" that provides us with consciousness (a word that we invented, but which describes a fairly concrete idea), and I would argue that consciousness is the closest thing that we have to a "soul".

At some point, if we can create a machine that emulates / replaces the functionality of all those cells, organs, and organ systems that are responsible for consciousness, and copy a snapshot of the states of all of that in an organic being (like us) into a mechanical counterpart, then ... yeah. I think that machine would be the organic being that it was a copy of, in a far more meaningful way than Henrietta's cancer cells are "her".

Why Avocados Shouldn't Exist

AnimalsForCrackers says...

Did a quick search on your first one because stuff like this interests me.

The prevailing opinion seems to be the most intuitive; the Americas also had a variety of Pleistocene cats/cheetahs (explains the speed) and dogs/hyenas (explains the seemingly uncharacteristic endurance as compared to their Old World "counterparts") which evolved alongside the nigh-extinct family ( Antilocapridae) of which pronghorns are the last living
members.

The second one, I don't know, because the plant got bored one day (as they are wont to do) and decided to spice things up?

How to Land a 737 (Nervous Passenger)

spawnflagger says...

Just watching this video made me nervous, but I think I could do it in real life, assuming a pilot was giving instructions over the radio.
---
I had a conversation with a commercial pilot before (at dinner, not in a flight) and he had flown both Boeing and Airbus and said they feel much different. Boeing spends a lot of time with the force-feedback so the planes behave much the same as their older analog counterparts, and lays things out based on pilot feedback ; whereas Airbus feels more like a video game, and they only care about fuel efficiency of the plane.

Either way, all pilots require hundreds of hours of training on a particular model (of large commercial airplane) before they get to be captain.

Payback said:

I realize all planes are different and why, but you'd think the FAA and other organizations would demand some sort of standardization if for no other reason than it would be easier and safer to switch out ACTUAL pilots on a day-to-day basis, let alone in an emergency.

I was also noticing how they design the different knobs and levers to be COMPLETELY different than each other. I'm sure it's for a tactile "oh hey, that's not the heading dial" feel when a pilot is grabbing onto the altitude dial.

The Blackface Democrat

bobknight33 says...

I would say that in general that both parties have extreme Members that do more harm to the public good and are more about lining their own pockets. The old timers time have come and do need to be replaced with those who reflect today's ideals. Harry Reid and John McCain types need to go.

Yes Republicans are the holier than thou and come up short often enough. We all fail from time to time but at least they try.
Democrats doesn't even try to be holy and to me that is frustrating.

The only good thing about our government is that the people are the final check and balance. However people are too busy being self absorb to pay attention to government. No one is watching the hen house.

The purpose of this video was for this man to show that the 7% of the black population who do not feel that the democrat philosophy is the correct way to go.

This is this mans opinion.
Granted the black face brings a stigma from yesterdays past.
But this is from a black man. He can get away with it. Like white people cant say N but the black man can and it is ok.

Since he does not hold the majority view as seen by his counterparts ( blacks and sifters )this video was discarded as racist trash.

I look at racist as one group feeling superior over another.
This black man is not doing this. He is not demonstrating this belief.

As far as the FU we all at times are quick to do this. I have done this also.

Enjoy the Superbowl

Since panthers are my home town team I will root for them tonight. Beside they have one heck of a season.

@bobknight33
you know bob,i owe you an apology.
i shouldnt have told you "fuck you" when my problem was with the video, and i wrongly conflated you with this video.

that being said,i still stand by my feelings of "fuck this video".

i struggle with people who have this binary view of politics.
just because i criticized the lies and deception of the republican party does not automatically translate me to promoting or defending democratic practices, because BOTH parties manipulate the body politic while at the very same fuck them over.

the two party duopoly are just different faces of the same coin.both have been purchased to serve the interests of:wall street, big business, bankers and the military.

i have never subscribed to either party.i judge on individual merit and a case by case basis.so when you call me a liberal i dont know what the fuck you are talking about.

do i hold some liberal views? yes.
do i hold some conservative? yep.

but so dont you bob,we ALL do.
of course that is not the dynamic that is shoved down our throat every goddamn day.that somehow our politics can be reduced down to this over-simplified,and overly basic dichotomy.

but nobody has such a simpleton, and almost childish politics.as humans we are pretty complex is our understandings, feelings and desires.it is those complexities that influences our politics and how we feel things should be as a society.

i am a libertarian socialist (anrcho-syndacalist).
which is why you may see me post videos that address the corruption in politics,in our economy,in our foreign policy.the hypocrisy of politicians espousing that "feel your pain" language, while they funnel public funds to their criminal friends on wall street...and point to the food stamp recipient,or immigrant and state..with zero sense of irony..THERE,that is your problem.

my politics is the reason why i may post video criticizing and ridiculing ultra-right wing politicians attempting to legislate "proper" and "moral" behavior, because they pretend they have some relationship with god,and god spoke to them.

but also why i will post videos criticizing and ridiculing the extreme left.who seek to legislate "harmful" or "offensive" speech, because they seek to control language.as if THEY are the true moral arbiters of human interaction.

so i do not necessarily disagree with you when you point to the democrats hypocrisy in regards to poor folk.that they use the language of empathy and compassion, and then enact legislation that is entirely bereft of compassion and empathy, but BOTH parties do this!

bill clinton was incredibly detrimental to the poor and working poor and made the job of digging out of poverty damn near impossible.

you may identify with republican ideology, and that is not a bad thing.republican base ideology may be a tad more pro-business,but it also recognizes that the governments job is to protect the people from fraud and over-reach from those businesses.original republican ideology was for limited government, and fiscal responsibility.which USED to translate to anti-war and dismissing the military when it was no longer needed.

i could go on.

i could also point out that democrats USED to be more hawkish and far more involved in addressing the concerns of the working man.

but look at the political landscape of today.
both of these parties are nothing even close to representing their original ideals.they are solely and totally beholden to big monied interests.

our republic has become a plutocracy, run by the plutocrats and oligarchs.

so when you delineate the argument by republican/democrat i simply do not see this play out in reality.

we might as well be arguing who is the better fottball team, because thats what american politics has become.bread and circuses and cheerleading for our "team".

it is the height of absurdity.american politics has become absurd.

as for you not seeing this for being racist.
i dont know what i can say to remove your blinders.
this video is textbook racist.
we have "black face"
we have over-generalizations.
we have ridicule and assumption based solely on skin color.

calling this video racist is a non-controversial assertion.

and you cant promote it out of discard.
the sift has spoken.you can disagree, but that wont change the fact that this video is in the discard bin.

anyways, sorry for telling you to fuck off.
i just found this video offensive, but i dont find YOU offensive.confusing at times, but not offensive.

Carrie Fisher Dishes on Return to 'Star Wars'

Actually, next to that dog, pretty much everyone in the room looks like they have sticks up their butts. If Bill The Cat had a canine counterpart this is it.

Preacher- AMC series- Trailer

00Scud00 says...

Oh wow, I hadn't heard about this. Of course this would have to be on HBO to show even half the shit that went on in the comics.
In spite of that I will be keeping an eye on this one, now we just need to wrangle Simon Pegg into a TV or movie version of The Boys, before he gets too damn old to play the role of his comic book counterpart.

Is Glass a Liquid?

bremnet says...

Glass is a fluid and a liquid (liquids are a subset of fluids). All window glasses will, given enough time, flow. The rate dependent deformation of the glass is described by its viscoelastic properties. Many stained glasses and all lead based glasses behave more viscously than elastically when compared to their modern counterparts, and thus appear to flow more, when the reality is that they just flow faster.

And lava is in fact a type of soap.

Does Your School Matter?

Sylvester_Ink says...

But really, the importance of attending college is not for prestige, but for learning. Sure, going to a prestigious school and graduating will give you a jump on your career, but as a couple years pass, this becomes less important when compared to the experience you earn.

I went to a community college out of high school for my first 2 years because it was the cheaper way to get my GEDs. I then transferred to UCSD for the next couple of years for my major. The quality of education was slightly better (there were a couple of GEDs that I had to retake as they didn't fully transfer, so I'm comparing those classes to their community college counterparts), but not excessively so. After that, I transferred to CSUSM, a less prestigious university, to finish up. (For a mix of reasons, primarily financial.) The quality of education I got from both the universities was identical, with some exceptions. (UCSD had more resources due to its size, CSUSM had a better individual focus, since it was smaller.)

After graduating, I was able to get great jobs, although I never put UCSD on my resume (because my degree was technically from CSUSM.) And each successive job can be attributed to the experience I earned from the previous jobs.

The point is, it isn't necessary to go to the most prestigious schools to get a good, career-building education. I have the first-hand experience to confirm that.

Deadpool - Redband Trailer

poolcleaner says...

I was a 15 year old boy that wore dresses, disliked superhero comics, played in a band, and competed in academics. When I was 30 I started reading superhero comic books (obsessively) but I still wear dresses.

Perhaps one day you will discover your superhero chi. It is never too late.

Deadpool on the other hand is a mostly childish, yet mindbending and fourth wall breaking character that spans the comic book multiverse beyond even Marvel comics, having a direct counterpart in DC that is less wacky, both of which reference each other incognito through narrative.

There's quite a bit of fun science fiction going on simultaneous with the 15 year old boy jargon, based in more than just the silliness of the comics themselves, but the politics of comics writers and artists. Far more interesting than the even more popular Star Wars B.S. happening this Christmas, which I think is a six year old boy demographic.

LiquidDrift said:

Wow Marvel is really trying to lock down that 15 year old boy demographic.
