Police Officer Admits There Is A Code Among Police

cosmovitelli says...

Man being police in a fervently capitalist individualist society awash with firearms just seems like a really bad choice in life. There are clear blue bays in latin america that need fishermen, european cities that need aoustic guitar players..

The conversation of those two is glorious. He's the stereotypical "hold my beer and watch this"-kinda guy while she's scared shitless.

That said, there was a pair of tornadoes in Minden as well, maybe two weeks ago. That's 60km from where I live and I can't remember ever hearing about tornadoes, no matter how small, in this area.

Ah, well. Weather's bonkers anyway. Massive downpours for three days straight, followed by clear, blue skies and 30°C yesterday. This morning, fog. Some consistency would be nice...

You must miss certain things. What about the beer and the weather? (yes I like our varied weather)

I'm so proud to be British right now.

I'm so proud to have fled the island completely. Just when I start getting a bit homesick, the sift fixes me right up.

Well, I've moved to Australia (on account of my wife being a citizen) so the beer is pretty great, and the weather is a mixture of clear blue skies, humid and overcast days and tropical storms. Actually, Winter is very much like Summer in England. It's not too hard to get used to.

I do still get nostalgic, though, and there are things about the place that I appreciate in a new light, viewing the UK from a distance.

Ultraviolet Tattoos

bleedmegood says...

Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UV_tattoo

Arguments against UV tattoos

UV tattoo ink is not commonly known or used, as very few varieties of UV inks are approved for use in the US. It is also many times more expensive than regular tattoo inks. Some people have had reactions to ingredients in the ink, ranging from minor itching to dermatitis. Several UV inks are suspected carcinogens and allergens and at this time, no research has been conducted into the side effects of long term exposure. Although many people who have received black light tattoos have had physical effects on the skin, any ink could cause a reaction. This can be a result of not protecting the tattoo from UV rays within 3 months of receiving the tattoo process or by using scented cremes or lotions on the tattoo area. This can damage the ink, causing it to become a normal ink color in all light. In time, it may also not glow in black lighting. Clear/blue UV inks are known to yellow or turn slightly brown with sun exposure. Color/black UV inks are known to become colored in all lighting. Therefore, it might permanently appear as a regular tattoo.

Arguments for UV tattoos

Over recent years, as the formulas for UV inks have been improved upon, it has become more common to hear reports of success with little or no reaction.
Tattoos can be mostly invisible, suitable for those who may be restricted in their choice of tattoo placement (because of their profession, for example) who can then choose to show off the tattoo under UV or Black light lighting.

Boy Won't Say Pledge of Allegiance Until Gays Can Marry

Well, clearly Winstonfield_Pennypacker is an intelligent boy and articulate. Unfortunately it seems like some people have been filling Winstonfield_Pennypacker's skull full of mush with their own agenda.

It is more than difficult to accept the details of Winstonfield_Pennypacker's story. A 30 year old has 'a lot of friends' none of which who are gay? Who is Winstonfield_Pennypacker referring to? Is it common for 30 year olds like Winstonfield_Pennypacker to have a lot of friends - let alone not even one that is gay? And this Winstonfield_Pennypacker with his "adult" friends just out of nowhere he decides to plant a flag against gay rights as a violation of the secular definition of marriage? AND he's willing to ignore thousands of other kinds of liberty & justice issues in the US legal system that take place every day!

Nope. Some other person has been shoveling an agenda into this Winstonfield_Pennypacker's head for a while now.... a long long while... Winstonfield_Pennypacker seems like he agrees with it. If Winstonfield_Pennypacker's mature/smart enough for a freakin' 30 year old in his mother's basement to maintain the position for his own reasons then fine & dandy, but he shouldn't impose his religious beliefs on a secular society. There is just no way this Winstonfield_Pennypacker out of the clear blue sky arrived at this. Winstonfield_Pennypacker is the result of inculcation.

Well, clearly the kid is an intelligent boy and articulate. Unfortunately it seems like some people have been filling his skull full of mush with their own agenda.

It is more than difficult to accept the details of his story. A 10 year old has 'a lot of friends' who are gay when his age group doesn't even hit puberty for 2-3 years? Is he referring to adults? What adults? Is it common for 10 year olds to have a lot of adult friends - let alone gay ones? And this kid with his many adult gay friends just out of nowhere he decides to plant a flag on gay rights as a violation of 'liberty & justice'? But he's willing to ignore thousands of other kinds of liberty & justice issues in the US legal system that take place every day?

Nope. Some other person has been shovelling an agenda into this kid's head for a while now. He seems like he agrees with it, and if he's mature/smart enough for his age to maintain the position for his own reasons then fine & dandy. But there is no way this kid just out of the clear blue sky arrived at this pass. This was the result of inculcation.

Wing In Ground Effect - A short history

ren says...

thanks for the comments,
I'm not sure stability is the major issue, as compared to perhaps bad weather and choppy seas which reduce the efficiency of the air cushion underneath. I'm interesting in designing a plane thats intended to go at faster than 300km/h using a small jet turbine for propulsion. As far as i can tell very little research has been done in this area, and the shapes of plane required would be quite different to the slower speed flare wing airfische.

Anyone wanna donate a wind tunnel and 3d printer?

Still, I love the tech, being able to just cruise off land and over water, nothing but the horizon and clear blue sea... it makes me drool.
