If that's the case, then there's no point continuing this conversation. As a bible literalist, you decided before the conversation began what your belief was going to be at the end, so this is not really a meeting of intellects --both open to new ideas-- but a clash of one such intellect versus a skilled defender of tautological dogma, which, sadly, is unresolvable because such dogma, by its own definition, cannot be challenged from within. The fact that you say you derive your faith in the word of God from the word of God itself is exactly what I mean.
You say that if someone truly tries to reach God, he will. That's true in that person's mind. It's also true that if you really try to reach faith in the Jewish version of God, or try to find "true connection with the universe," or go on a spirit walk with peyote to find your spirit guide animal, or meditate on a fire until you begin to see the God within it, and do so with a sincere heart, you will be able to succeed in any of those things. The only question is, do you feel more kinship with Christians or Jews or hippies or Native Indians or stoned camper? That will determine which way you feel most comfortable accessing the same experience of connection with a higher power.
So while you're seeking the truth, consider that the way you found your good spiritual feeling isn't unique to the Church -- that's just where you happened to find yours first.
And finally, you really don't understand science if you don't think evolution is a scientific theory. Any theory that is arrived at through following science is a scientific theory. That's a definition. The only reason atheists (I'm using the term broadly here) seem to care about that particular theory is that we noticed Christians were attacking it. The only reasons Christians were attacking it and not any other scientific theories is simply because it exposes a flaw with your faith's creation myth, which has dire implications for the rest of the stories in that book.
Peace.

Well look at it the other way. What if he filmed it and the accident never occurred? The guy never hit the guard and never crossed back over to strike a vehicle or whatever else. He went on about his day and all there was to prove it ever happened was a phone call to police about a erratic driver and a few drivers who could have said that they did see a car over the line temporarily as they passed it.

Police don't give tickets based on other people's observations alone, if they did...all those people who call in about a car going too fast in their neighborhood with a license plate number attached would have tickets mailed to them.

So......this video would be the only thing that is "proof" that this guy was doing some very dangerous shit. And to top it off, what if someone else wrecked trying to avoid him? How do you prove the guy was trying to play chicken with you and that's why you swerved and wrecked?

I think the guy filming was too close to the guy driving erratically, but otherwise I find no fault in what he did. He wasn't all over the road filming the guy. Honking and flashing his lights ain't going to make a guy stop what he's doing...especially when he had a couple near head-on collisions and didn't stop.

Frustrates me when Im on the road and a semi truck is driving erratic and I am not sure if Im wasting my time calling 911 because he might be long gone by the time they arrive or might have hit a patch of slow traffic and got himself under control. Or "dangerous" campers dragging another long ass vehicle behind them....it's not against the law, but when they can't seem to keep it within the lines during high winds...video proof is about the only thing you could use to prove the guys are unsafe as hell.

This IS my civil disobedience!

Most of these commenters want me to be silent. I know that. I knew that when I started this Sift Talk.

Did it anyway. And Dft wrote that magnificent comment.

I am one happy camper right now.

@bareboards2, there have been a number of times that i've almost left this place due to people's stupid shit. but the reality is that you can't possibly get them to stop, and trying just encourages more stupidity, so... you're gonna have to take the good with the bad. of course, there's always the option of a little civil disobedience, too...

A little background:
Toby, the head of Human Resources at Scranton paper (where Michael (Carell) is the boss), is a dull, dreary and essentially boring person. Michael hates his guts, and would like nothing more than for Toby to just disappear.
Prior to this episode, Toby did disappear, on a 4 week paid vacation.
This was the very first 17 sec of the first episode of Tobys return to the office from his holiday....Michael, clearly not a happy camper.

Actually, by itself it's a great way to be sarcastic at work. For instance, if one of my underlings asks to go on an extended lunch or take a day off from work I would send them this clip in MSN. The context doesn't matter because we all know he's a boss saying no so it's funny. But it's more of a functional humor, similar to using an Arnold Schwarzenegger soundboard to answer specific questions during an interoffice meeting. Is each clip funny on it's own? No. Is it funny when it's used as a replacement for speech? Yes.
