There is a secret message on your digital music player (Blog Entry by dystopianfuturetoday)

Daybreak - Chet Baker
Family - The National Bank
Cigarett - Bo Kaspers Orkester
10,000 Days (Part 2) - Tool
Green Earrings - Steely Dan

Fairly straightforward if you ask me. I get up in the morning to spend time with my family. I don't smoke, so the cigarette might be a metaphor for general morning rituals. I'll get approximately 27 years (10,000 days) of happy family life before all the kids have moved out. I will first have to establish a family, though. This can be facilitated by gifting some earrings of rare design to a certain someone. Maybe that certain someone is the one who sent the message?

Levon.

therealblankman says...

From a cotton farm in Turkey Scratch Arkansas to the very pinnacle of the music world. 71 year old Levon Helm will soon be gone. Thought I'd post this tribute song written by Elton John from his 1971 album "Madman Across the Water".

Story here. http://www.ottawacitizen.com/Entertainment/Music/6474166/story.html

From the above story "Born May 26, 1940, in Turkey Scratch, Arkansas, the son of cotton farmers, he learned to play guitar and drums as a child. By 17 he was appearing in honky tonks in and around nearby Helena and taking in performance by such southern legends as Conway Twitty, Elvis Presley, Bo Diddley, and Ronnie Hawkins.

He joined Hawkins’ rockabilly band The Hawks just before they moved to Canada in the late 1950s.

In the early 1960s, Helm and Hawkins recruited Canadians Robbie Robertson (guitar), Rick Danko (bass) and pianist Richard Manuel and organist Garth Hudson. They left Hawkins and toured as Levon and the Hawks before backing Bob Dylan in the mid-60s. Fans weren’t initially receptive to Dylan’s switch from acoustic folky to electric folk-rocker, and Helm headed back south, working on offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico for a couple of years until bassist Rick Danko asked him to rejoin the group that would become known around the world as, simply, The Band"

Trippy architetural flybys

I'm going to make a VS political compass chart for fun. (Politics Talk Post)

siftbot says...

>> ^dystopianfuturetoday:

Here is the chart so far. It's hard to read because of all the names unfortunately, but you can manually take people off the chart if you like. I added a few inactive sifters from the last time this was posted - if you are one of these people and want to retake, let me know and I'll change it. I also added all of the American presidential candidates and Obama. I'll wait for a few more days for others to join, then I'll post.

Oh no, no offense taken at all chief. Honestly what it is is sometimes I read too fast for my own good. I have gotten really good at skimming internets especially. Combine that with the fact that I'm TERRIBLE with names and you've got how things got messed up.

Most of the time when I am trying to get someone's name right I copy/paste it, which is not to say that I don't know your name. Trouble is, I can't pronounce it. Every time I see your name I look at it and scratch my head thinking "Boy's-lib?" "Bose-lib?" "Bo-ice-lib?" and nothing really seems to sound right. My mind's attempt to deal with the situation has been to skip over the middle letters and in my head I literally read now "B---s_Lib"

*shrug* sounds crazy but it's the truth
and looking at the name "Boss_Lib" in the context, I could see how this would create confusion.

Anyway, no I'm not offended. It's just frustrating sometimes because I wish there were hard and fast rules about such things. I'm not going to dig up any now, but I've seen many instances where the shorter clip changed the spirit of the video and was ruled *notdupe by the community; so much so that without seeing what you quoted in the FAQ I really thought that THAT was the rule (a dupe is the SAME video length and all).

I plan on making a poll about it after lucky is done with his powerpoint ticker poll. I feel though, that the video really is a different video. Most people wont sit through the 10 minute film long enough to even get to the 1 minute clip i posted. But meh, what I like about this place is we're all community driven with rules n such. We'll see what the peeps think and hopefully update the FAQ.

peace

(EDIT) On a completely unrelated side note, I just hopped in a Battlefield 3 server and got banned about 2 minutes in for "Having a racist name"
This is the nn my friends gave me in high school, nothing more. *shrug*

HAWP - Fallout: New Vegas

rychan says...

Hmm, can you beat New Vegas without killing anyone? Including creatures?

*spoilers*

I've seen speed-runs that involve very little killing, but they do kill House. If you work for house, he makes you kill the BoS. If you work for the NCR, they make you kill house. It would be ironic if working for Caesar gives you some path with no killing. edit: Caesar makes you kill BoS.

Hmm, so here's someone claiming to have done it, but they count putting House in a paralyzed state while he waits to die of an infection as "no killing". The game even gives you the same karma penalty as if you'd killed him. House even asks you to kill him immediately, making this form of death less preferable. I call BS. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=24221124&postcount=9108

Occupy Wall Street: Sam Seder - Countdown 9-27-2011

notarobot says...

It's also interesting to note unrelated simultaneous protest of hundreds of airline pilots also marching on Wall Street. Pilots' March on Boing Boing, The Denver Post and on flickr.

Like the #occupywallstreet protest, I have as of yet heard no mention of the pilots' march in main stream channels.

Perhaps the stage is being set for 2012 to really be a world-changing year after all?
