Bag Snatcher Gets Trapped On Bus - Driver Gets Revenge

rich_magnet says...

I'm guessing somewhere in Latin America from the Spanish and the general appearance of the passengers. Wherever it is, it's somewhere you don't [bleep] with bus drivers. Good on him for catching this twerp. Too bad his cohort got away.

The Wire creator David Simon on "America as a Horror Show"

Trancecoach says...

It wasn't me who first pointed out Simon as a hypocritical "liberal bully."

"Here’s why I assert Simon is a bully. His own words reveal him to be a petty, nasty, mean-spirited guy. “…anything I've ever accomplished as a writer, as somebody doing TV, anything I've ever done in life, down to, like, cleaning up my room, has been accomplished because I was going to show people that they were [bleeped] up, wrong, and that I was the [bleeping] center of the universe and the sooner they got hip to that, the happier they would all be.""

Statist narcissism.

There's as much as you'd like on this. How about...?

"David Simon, a multi-millionaire writer for Time-Warner, one of the largest corporations in the world and a cultural leader, jetted across the globe to speak in front an audience of people with both the financial means and free time about the horrors of “unchecked” capitalism and the tragic loss of the social compact."

"It is rich that a leading light of Hollywood, that of unpaid interns, unmatched inequality of pay, tax-avoidance schemes, exploitation of public subsidies, industry scheming, etc., would criticize a “broken social compact.”"

"Meanwhile, in the real world of unchecked, no-social-compact capitalism, the WSJ is reporting that the “Burger Wars” are expanding to Africa. The heartless capitalist system is stepping in where communism, socialism and other authoritarian systems have failed, bringing with it the digging of new wells, food production systems, jobs, etc. All that awful stuff that comfortable capitalists take for granted."

EDIT: To be clear, I have no specific interest in advocating for Koch, or Simon, or whomever, or in prosecuting them or @radx or anyone else. But I do think this kind of pernicious thinking/bullying can and does spread and causes much harm, even to those engaging in the thinking/bullying, it distorts them in an undesirable way, so I point it out.

... Interpreter Translates Mandela Memorial Imposter's Signs

BicycleRepairMan says...

My only problem here is that Jimmy Kimmel and similar shows do jokes like this all the time , by "interpreting" videos falsely ie: the "bleep and blur" thing, the miss america "translation", but this guy, as I understand it, is a real interpreter and translate the nonsense as best as he can?

Based upon my own research testing free speech, people in America almost completely lack the ability to judge according to context. If it's contextually offensive, it's fine, unless, out of context, it's offensive; then, it gets bleeped or we publicly shamed that person(s).

The weird thing about US late night is that it's OK to say "scissor sisters" but they bleep out asshole. I just don't get it anymore - maybe it's like asshole is just a piece of symbolic profanity that is censored because it's censored.

Gay Couple or Straight Friends?

For the movie ratings system here, that's actually pretty close to the truth. As far as network tv, they're still pretty parochial. However, some basic cable channels, Comedy Central for instance, don't censor anything after a certain time. "Asshole" seems like a pretty tame thing to bleep to me, but I'm a potty-mouth, and Kimmel is in a 4-way battle for ratings.

Because our censors are role-model *Christian* citizens chosen at random . . . and then never re-chosen.

hahaha! Censoring it because a kid might watch it on the internet! Somebody please think of the children! Oh, be careful! They may even come across some porn too! I hear if you look really hard, you may find some.

Also, I said I don't watch TV, but I watch "TV shows" all the time, I just don't sit down in front of the TV and channel surf and watch any old crap on the TV. Actually, usually through the internet and I find very few things on the internet are bleeped or censored

You missed the point.

This is the internet. Time doesn't matter here. Kids will see it regardless of when it airs. You say you don't watch TV, nor do I, but you're watching a TV show on the internet, and wondering why some words are bleeped out.

Yeah, the time I'm watching this show is exactly... never. I don't watch TV and they never played this garbage in Australia when I did watch TV. Why would I assume a late night talk show be a "family show"?
