I suspect your new god will be dead soon.
I wonder how fast he's going. It looks to be going at a decent clip. I'd guess around 30mph, maybe? (48kmph)

Those black & white markers are 50m apart on a straight and it takes him 5-7 seconds for each part, so that's 26-36km/h (16-22mph) if i'm not mistaken.

btw, this is the original upload of that clip, so it is in Kaufbeuren (Swabia, Germany).

Jon Stewart Grills Huckabee On Gay Marriage

flechette says...

>> ^Lodurr:
I'm an open-minded guy, and non-religious, and I've been doubtful of my own position based on who else has the same position I do. I agree with Huckabee, but for none of the reasons he gave.
I look at the argument differently than both Stewart and Huckabee. We have to examine what the purpose of our government recognizing marriages and unions is in the first place. I think its purpose was to help couples procreate by giving them the money to support children. We still have positive population growth in the US, but all the countries that have or are moving towards negative population growth have a real need to grant incentives for couples to procreate.
With that in mind, why should the government grant the same financial incentives to same-sex couples?

Last I checked you
1) didn't have to be married (or smart, wealthy, black/white/whatever) to make babies
2) can be married and make babies with people other than your husband/wife.

The government still supports those babies, so how does marriage make making babies any more or less of a convenience for the government? As long as people have sex organs there will be people who make babies.

Oh, and there will be gay and lesbian couples out there who can adopt all those poor poor bastard children out there, if only we'd let them.

Quantum, what exactly ARE the benefits of marriage?

Zero Punctuation Review - Fable 2

Kreegath says...

Black & White 2 didn't have multiplayer. Why did the sequel lack a feature that the prequel sported, and which is a standard feature in that kind of game? What I'm trying to say is Lionhead screwed my family over and we'll never buy another one of their products, which apparently was a good decision if you're to believe this review.

Zero Punctuation Review - Fable 2

NetRunner says...

I have to say, Yahtzee kinda cemented my great feeling of "meh" about Fable 2.

Lotsa reviewers think it's awesome, but me, I just think back to Black & White, and remember it's the same guy behind Fable 2. It's the same overblown idea of trying to pack a game with a mishmash of different minigames and calling it a "life simulator" and "appeals to everyone since you set your own narrative" and other BS excuses for why you have no narrative, or underlying arc to the gameplay.

I usually trust the X-Play people, and they gave Fable 2 a 5 out of 5, but I think I'd react to it the way Yahtzee did.

People In the Middle For Obama - S. Lentz - "Listen"

garmachi says...

words she says with more emphasis than others:

Black.
White.
Listen.
Listen.
Intolerant.
Intelligence.
Respect.
Believe.
Feel.
Hope.

This is totally geared toward "feelers" rather than "thinkers".... Clever ad, no basis for a rational decision though.

Obama Turns Heckling Into a Discussion at Townhall

imstellar28 says...

Transcript for the hard of hearing/thinking:

Part 1: how to effectively pause while the audience is interrupting you
thats all right....lets....excuse me....hey.....hold on a second...........(audience chanting)....hold on....hold on everybody...excuse me young man...this is going to be question and answer session.....youll have your chance to answer your question, you dont have to disturb the whole meeting.

Part 2: how to stall while you are thinking of an answer to the question
alright alright, well uh i-i-i-they-uh-well-i-i-i-guess-i-i-i-hold-on-hold a second-everybody-i want everybody to be respectful, thats why were having a town hall meeting, this-this-this is democracy at work, and he-he asked a legitimate question so i want to give him an answer. um, i think you are misinformed about when you say not one time, every issue you spoke of i did speak about

Part 3: how to fabricate an answer to a question off the top of your head
ive been talking about predatory lending for the last two years in th us senate, and worked to pass legislation to prevent it when i was in the state legislature. and i have repeatedly said that many of the uh-uh predatory loans that were made in the mortgage system did target african american latino communities. ive said that repeatedly. number two, gina six. i was the first candidate to get out there and say that this was wrong and we should change it. thats number two, when sean bell got shot i put out a statement immediately saying this is a problem.

Part 4: how to ineffectively cope with your questioner confronting the absurdity of your response, in stutter
so so all all all i all im all all all im im saying im sorry wait wait wait dont start wait wait ho ho ho hold on. dont start dont start shouting back im just answering your question. on on on each of on each of these issues ive spoken out, not i may not have spoken out the way you would have wanted me to speak out, which is which is fine, because no no no i understand, no no look look but but, well well they we well they uh, re-re-re-remember i have other people so im just trying to answer your question.

Part 5: how to make excuses for your answer, in stutter
so so all all all i so uh all i uh ho ho ho ho hold on dont dont dont start shouting back im just answering your question on on on-on each of on each of these issues....i have spoken out, now i may not have spoken out the way you would have wanted me to speak out, which is which is fine, because i, no i understand, no, but but, uh , which is fine, well uh uh, well uh uh they well uh hold on a second, re-re-re-remember well ive got other people.

Part 6: how to deflect attention from your ridiculous response, while trying to establish false credibility through past actions, in stutter
heres what im suggesting is, is that on each of these issues that you mention ive spoken out and ive spoken out forcefully, and i-i-i-i-i uh listen i was a civil rights lawyer i-i-i-i-i i have i have passed the first racial profiling legislation in illinois i uh i passed i-i-i-i passed hold on a second i passed some of the-the-the-the toughest death penalty reform legislation in illinois so-so-so these are issues ive worked on on for decades

Part 7: how to assault your questioner, then raise your voice as you proudly recite a feel-good, meaningless, cliched statement to distract your audience from what just happened
now that doesnt mean that im always going to satisfy the way you want these issues framed. which which which uh gives you the option of voting for someone else, it gives you the option to run for office yourself, but, the, those, those are all options, but, but the one thing but the one thing that i think is important the one thing that i think is important, is that, is that we are respectful to towards each other, and what is true, the one thing i believe is that the only way we are going to solve our problems in this country, the only way we are going to solve our problems in this country is if all of us come together black, white, hispanic, asian, native american, young old, disabled, gay, straight that i think has got to be our agenda. alright. okay.

Obama's Response Ad to McCain's Baseless Attacks

lucky760 says...

>> ^Razor:
In all seriousness would it hurt Obama just to ignore McCain's smears?

If you consider losing the election as "hurting," yes McCain's smears could hurt Obama. He continuously smears Obama unjustifiably even though he himself is doubly guilty of his own claims, yet the media doesn't move their microscope away from Obama. (The stat from a recent MSNBC clip points out that all major news networks are critical of Obama 75% of the time and of McCain only 50%.)

When the American people, especially the ones already scared of Obama, hear nothing but a never-ending onslaught against Obama, it can't help to encourage more fears.

I'm actually completely surprised by your comment because I felt the exact opposite. I thought Obama's ad was really taking the high road by simply stating "All these reputable sources say McCain's ad is lying and McCain is simply trying to smear Obama," rather than launching an attack of his own. If using black & white and the word "old" is all Obama's ad is using to attack McCain, that's pretty classy.

You're very ignorant if you think that everyone has the same rights and opportunities. And degrading attitudes about women still exist today. The stereotypes that label men as rational, strong, decisive, and protective and women as emotional (irrational), submissive, weak, and nurturing are still very much alive. Just look at the top sifts of all time:
1. A very talented MAN playing the ukelele
2. Two talented BOYS' well-made lightsaber video
3. Autistic BOY being awesome at a b-ball game
4. Talented MALE robot dancer
5. Prairie Dog, generally accepted as MALE. Thus: Drama KING
6. Very clever rant about Pachebel. Again, a talented and clever MAN.
7. FINALLY, an intelligent WOMAN with integrity. But, wait! She's also very beautiful. Do you think this would be the #7 sift if she hadn't been so gorgeous? I don't think so. Listen to some of the comments:
"Plus, uhmm - she's like a hot Christiane Amanpour. But I like her integrity too."
"She's 40% Kylie Minogue and 60% Naomi Watts."
"...Plus, shes hot."
"Is there anything better than a hot, articulate, angry blonde ... I don't think so."
"Lara Logan is hot. Not only is she drop dead pretty, she is smart, she has an acerbic tongue and she tells the truth. Lately, she has been wearing tight tops with a push-up bra that really make her tits looks great. More Iraq stories, please............"
"shes hot and reaaaaaaly intelligent..."
"I want this woman to have my children."
"Lara Logan, will you marry me?"

I give major props to the guys of videosift for focusing FAR more on her integrity, intelligence, and how articulate she is. They really were very good about that. But I really, really think that a lot of those votes had everything to do with the COMBINATION of brains and looks. If this had been an ugly woman, it would not have received NEARLY as many votes, I'd bet you anything. Moving on.

8. Awesome commercial. The wind is a tall MAN doing funny things. Love this sift.
9. Drug spiders. MALE spiders (Mr. Crack Spider, etc.), Male narrator.
10. Quantum Physics narrated and explained by a MALE scientist.
11. Clever prank, talented FEMALES. (Yay!) All old/overweight women are the ones being tricked, all beautiful and young females are the tricksters. Some sample comments:
"...also, they were hot."
"Those twins could prank me in the bathroom anytime."
"Twin hot German chicks in a bathroom is guaranteed to make #1."

Again, the majority of the comments had nothing to do with the way the girls looked, but on the prank itself. Cool. Movin on.

12. Jon Stewart (MAN) being funny and clever and awesome.
13. A pretty GIRL with a great bod doing something pretty cool. Comments:

"She can spin on my escalator any day she likes."
"This is cool and I think it's pure science. For example, it would be interesting also to rub her down in various oils and see how it affects the results. Or underwear versus no underwear for example. What would happen?"
"She's a hottie."
"oh and this is *nature too because humans are part of nature.
and *sexuality because those tight jeans make her look sexy to me."
"I predict a chubby girl stuck between the glass railings of a shopping mall escalator near you."
"Indeed, perhaps she will leave a trail of freshly erected posts behind her as she spins her way from town to town."
"I suspect she already left a trail of freshly erected posts, both at the original venue and among some of the male sift viewers judging by the comments."
"Videosift seems to have an immense fondness for rotating women."
"You males are all full of bull putty. If this was a 15 year old pimply faced fella doing this it have about 20 votes and an eia tag immediately."

14. Dolphins blowing bubbles
15. Cool music video. MALE band, MALE hands.

Most people see the world through the eyes of a man and they don't even know it. Men look, women are looked upon.

Alright, this is a video of someone doing what they love.
I don't understand the controversy. Just because I watched this doesn't make me think of a woman as an object. I see her dancing, and I see her doing something she loves to do. I'm not sitting here thinking "I'd hit that so hard she'd walk funny for a week" I'm actually sitting here enjoying it because it's a dance.

People need to seriously reconsider what they want to pick fights with. Society on the whole has come to terms of equality. Black, White, Yellow, Purple, brown, male or female, everybody has equal rights and opportunities.
No race is better then the other, and same goes for the Sexes.

People don't treat women as brainless objects anymore. You can vote, you can drive, you can work, the only thing you can't do is pee standing up. People have accepted that women are NOT objects anymore, and therefore can actually watch something like this and appreciate it as art.

Because we (at least not all of us), don't have our head in the gutter anymore and can accept it.

How it all ends

MycroftHomlz sez:

"You remind me of Dale Harding.

I think you have completely missed his point; either you are too entrenched in your own ideals or you weren't paying attention. First, it is irrelevant whether or not man is the cause of global warming. Global Warming is happening, deal with it."

I take exception to your "Dale Harding" reference. =P

I think you have completely missed MY point here. My point was not to argue whom is to blame but instead to point out the hole in his otherwise solid argument.

His point, unlike YOUR own point, was not to argue that Global Warming was a given (he concedes that there may still be a valid debate). Instead, he circumvents that issue and reframes the arguement as a matter of Risk Assesment, which are known/agreed-upon matters.

The flaw I point out is his oversimplification of those risks into black/white conclusions. He assumes that if we act, we can make a difference. He agrees that acting on preventative/reconstructive measures will cost us to some degree, but does not account for the effectiveness of the investment.

This means that his paradigm of "Act equals =( or =| " versus "No Act equals =) or The End Of The World" is flawed, becuase "the End Of The World" is still a factor in the "Act" column and we are still quantumly screwed.

In conclusion, His Devil's Advocate lacks the proper measure of cynicism for this arguement. Damn short-sighted optimists.
