Fearless tiny puppy!

The Great VideoSift Coming -Out Thread (Happy Talk Post)

critttter says...

My real name is Squink, as in 'esquincle', Spanish slang affectionate term for small hairless dog, frequently used for children. I was born on September 11th, 2001. (For reals!) I'm only about 30% overweight, but my big-pink-gorilla really tries hard to keep my nutrition levels up. I'm mostly Chihuahua, probably with some pug going on. I live with the big dog, a 14 year old chow/shepard mix. I like to order the large dog around and I think she would attack for me if I commanded it. I keep the yard free of squirrels. I snore very loudly. My big-pink-gorilla thinks I'm too affectionate to strangers and I would go home with anybody. But I'm not a sleeze, really. Oh yeah, and I almost forgot - I bark at air pockets. Do I get a treat for doing this?

Transplanting the Human Head

schmawy says...

My approval means nothing, but no, I don't. Of course it can be done. You could probably keep a head alive with a machine. It was done with dogs in the Soviet union by a doctor named Demikhov, who grafted the head of a small dog onto the shoulders of a big dog. There's video of this poor animal{s} walking around.

But like Snoozedoctor says, they're not color coded. It'd be like cutting through a T1 internet line x 1020 and trying to reconnect it with bulldozer. Or something.

Camera tripods have rubber feet that you can retract to expose a metal spike if that works better for you on whatever terrain you're placing it on. (see the first item here) You'd think with all the sensors they've got in this thing, it could extend a spike automatically when it senses it's walking on something slippery.

Ya, I was thinking that too, but they probably wanted to demonstrate the technology, not the practicality. Would it have been so cool if it had snow shoes and walked across?

UPVOTE for kicking the dog! That was cool to see it recover.

You joke but I find it interesting that many peoples' instinctual reaction to that part is just that. The way it moves to correct itself is so organic that you feel as if you're watching a live animal being kicked.

Well that's the is the normal human reaction and it shows just how advanced the motor skills of them have become. Combine that with the Aibo robots "personality" that people find natural and you've got yourself a robot dog.

'Big Dog' Robot Put Through Its Paces (NEW)

Boston Dynamics Big Dog

ReverendTed says...

Next milestone: programming that allows it to yell obscenities every time it begins to lose its balance. That's almost the only way that ice scene could be more entertaining.

Almost, because the Big Dog weighs 235 lbs and has a payload of 340 lbs. This means you could strap another one onto its back and let let that one flail around hopelessly attempting to get its footing.

Zifnab: Hehe...I'm realizing that when you want to play with the big dogs, you just hammer in the embed code and hit submit. Then you go back and add channels, comments, etc.

With that said, the only way that this game can redeem itself now is if it jumps out of the box, installs itself, impresses me so much that it erases my memories of the original Half-Life and blows me at the end of every play session. Maybe (and this is a strong maybe), it has a chance...
