Benjamin Button Behind The Scenes (Special Effects)

The Tech of Benjamin Button: AMAZING CGI

There is a well known study that basically boils down humans' facial expressions down to 156 different facial expressions. They originally brought in Brad Pitt to make those 156 facial expressions. Those expressions didn't cover everything, so that's when they reenacted everything shot for shot.

Yeah, I read about how they had that as a starting point on cgsociety.com. And I'm sure that logic holds true for getting a fairly good approximation of any expression but it certainly undersells how much we can do with our face, and how subtle it can be.

There's a website that paramount has launched just for the special effects (gee, do you think they're proud of them?) http://www.benjaminbuttonfx.com/ Which covers these and other effects in the film.

One part of the film that did leap out at me while I watched it was the 'youthening' effects, they were obviously an effect. Also, they weren't done by Digital Domain, they were farmed out as they didn't have the time... and I think it shows. The quality of the aging effects vs the obviousness of the youthening ones is quite marked.

Oscar 2009 Nominations (Cinema Talk Post)

Shitty fucking nominations. The Oscars can go swivel.

Best picture: get rid of Benjamin Button & The Reader, replace with The Wrestler & Dark Knight, the eventual winner being The Wrestler.

Why the hell is The Wrestler not on the list? Because it's not coated in gloss? No happy ending? The script too good? Un-fucking-believable. One of the best films I've seen in a long long time.

And Dark Knight? Pompous twats. Couldn't bring themselves to whack a Batman film on the list, even though it's recognised by pretty much every other human being in the world as being a truly incredible film.

I now hate the Oscars nearly as much as the Globes.

Film Recommendations In Poster Mosaic (Blog Entry by Farhad2000)

The wrestler was perhaps the best movie I watched in a long time. I totally agree on Benjamin Button being a let down, it was so long winded and so slow and you could see certain things from a mile away.

Am hoping to make this a regular thing, as I noticed now I tend to forget good movies I watch.

i have to say, the best film i've seen recently is 'the wrestler' - i can't find a single fault with that movie. all the acting was impeccable and the direction was so brilliantly restrained. a definite triumph. biggest disappointment for me was benjamin button. technically top-notch but the story and script left me a bit cold, not to mention the length. looking forward to 'milk' too.
