unfortunately, i did. boredom overcame me during a flight back home from the netherlands and the dude and i gave in and watched the whole damn thing.
while, the fact that the family opened their home to a child in need and loved him and accepted him and helped him achieve great things is SOOO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL it hurts, there is absolutely no way the true story was this fucking cheesy. or pandering.
the movie was so obviously made to make upper middle class white people feel good about themselves,far more focused on race and the cultural idiosyncrasies that perpetuate "us vs. them"-isms, and far less concerned about reminding people how important and rewarding it is to be mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally available to their communities.
or maybe it was actually a fantastic inspiring movie and i was just tired and cynical and coming down from a week of smoking hash, sucking dick and walking around in the cold.

Oh, it's totally handled. My sister is out for now, she's become just as destructive as she was on drugs and even our most conservative siblings agree - she's fucking nuts and we hope her life is good one day, but we just can't be around her. she didn't even come to thanksgiving, and she was not missed.

If you try and try, and seem to get nowhere, then sometimes you just need to walk away. This is true even in situations that involve your family. I'm not saying that you need to disappear if you're at this point. Just that you need to draw your boundaries very clearly, and if someone (anyone) is disrespectful enough to cross those boundaries, then you shouldn't give them your time or your sanity.

As brilliant as the lamb stew was, it was pretty simple to make. I think it's a universal truism that the best recipes the world over all came from peasant food.

For the record, I made that recipe for "Bea" (lamb) stew yesterday. Bought a butt-end leg of lamb, butchered it into chunks which gave me about 2 lbs of meat. Served it with garlic whipped potatoes, Irish soda bread, steamed cabbage and lots of pints to wash it down. Fokkin' delish.

As brilliant as the lamb stew was, it was pretty simple to make. I think it's a universal truism that the best recipes the world over all came from peasant food.
