Fox News, GOP Further 'the un-mooring of politics from fact'

you're setting traps for your intelligence if you think questioning opinion leaders is beyond the pale (if they share x ideology with you).

It's not "questioning opinion leaders" when you use transparent attacks like:
• liberal activist and former "Governor Moonbeam"
• liberal scientists
• primitive tribalism.

Those are just straight up attacks. Yet you still claim you're advocate for science and intelligence?
(btw: nice one questioning my intelligence here. barf)

I don't think things are that serious.

-Here in California, news articles on Jerry Brown that reference his history often reference his nickname from the 70s, Governor Moonbeam. It's a concise reference to his position on the political bell curve (i.e. sometimes to the left enough that he's willing to stop supporting the Democratic party).
-There are [liberal/conservative] scientists & activists in the world who care about [liberal/conservative] causes and that has to be taken into account in our intellectual models.

I think discussions about cognitive biases & 'intelligence traps', is constructive, not insulting, and it's a great, important topic

"Primitive tribalism:" Yes, I'll stand by that one as my main criticism of politics in the 2010s. Being devoted to science doesn't mean refraining from criticizing either party.

This all being said, I understand it's my responsibility to make sure people don't feel attacked.

Physicist Leonard Mlodinow vs. Deepak Chopra

WTF? Are you now claiming that pi does have a finite number of digits? Or are you claiming that it's not used by men?

LOTS of numbers have infinite digits in decimal form, dude. As I mentioned before. 1/3, 1/7, 1/9, a vast wave of fractions don't have exact decimal representations. And that's not even getting into the other irrational numbers, NONE of which have precise decimal representations.

And you're still ignoring what I said...if it was metaphor, he should say so, not try to imply that he saying something scientific.

You know what a metaphor based on an error is called? An ERROR. Wrong is wrong, it's really that simple. Would you accept it if I said that 2+2=5 is just a metaphor? I certainly hope not, because it's just wrong.

You don't get it.
How can a number that has been used by civilized man to erect a civilization have no end?
You still refuse to admit that you do not know everything.
It's metaphor.

I give up on this stupid broken quoting system. It works 2/3 of the time, then barfs up the rest. I guess I'll just stop quoting at all.

Zero Punctuation: Borderlands

Wow, so true. I played this game for 6 or 7 hours and it really becomes stale and boring.
I'm starting to feel more and more like Yahtzee in that most large and usually highly acclaimed games are becoming large disappointments. Dragon Age was barf to me (Torchlight was more entertaining). Currently playing Mass Effect 2 which seems of much lower quality than 1.
My only memorable games of recent time were Fallout 3, Dead Space (though I didn't complete it), Dirt 2, Prototype (also didn't complete), bit of GTA IV.

And the click LMB and kill a bajillion enemies in Torchlight with no actual plot didn't become stale and boring for you? Weird. At least Borderlands has multiplayer.

You're right that's a bit bizarre. But I didn't say I loved Torchlight, only that it was more entertaining than DAO. I really liked the setting and atmosphere in Torchlight for a while. However I also didn't finish Torchlight.
Concerning Borderlands, first-off it has bad FPS mechanics, for example when trying to shoot enemies you encounter a lot of invisible walls through which your bullets can't pass. All the moving around between and after missions wasn't much fun. Your inventory was too small. And while they tried to implement it the weapon comparison system was shite. Also the UI was as is almost always the case badly ported to PC.

I thought Yatzhee liked Dragon Age. Sure, he's going to nitpick any game, but he said he wanted to play more of it regardless.

How is that a fail? It's ace!!

Actually, I didn't mean to click that. Must have done it when I clicked Engineering. Fixed it.

You also said you barfed a little in your mouth...

I'm confused about your sentiment about this whole business. I personally think it's definitely a cooler limo than the run out of the mill ones.

Who wants chowdah? (Kids Talk Post)

videosiftbannedme says...

This may not be a story of childhood 'bliss' but it will definitely stick with me forever. Here's why:

I was about 5 or 6, and was thirsty one day. So I went into the kitchen where my mom was making dinner and decided to get something to drink. Looking in the fridge, I spied Donald Duck orange juice, Mt. Dew and chocolate milk. All of these things I liked. So it suddenly occurred to me that if I liked them all separately, then they have to taste good together! So I mixed up a giant glass of orange juice, chocolate milk and Mt. Dew. After one sip, I wanted to barf. But my mom, having watched me out of the corner of her eye, decided to teach me a lesson for mixing up such a big glass and wasting so much, and told me if I didn't finish it, I'd get a spanking. I got another 3-4 sips of the poison down before running screaming from the room, making all sorts of choking noises. I can STILL recall that taste today. So I guess the real bliss was the fact that I didn't have to finish it off...and never got a spanking.

Wolf Blitzer's Fascinating Interview With Craig Ferguson

ulysses1904 says...

I like his comments about tabloid culture and reality shows. People will act like complete fools anymore if there's fame in it. Yesterday's celebrities and Joe Sixpack will literally eat a bug, if it means being on TV. Or eating a bowl of bugs that someone else barfed up, during sweeps week. Or eating rancid meat all season, in the hopes of winning the grand prize on the season finale. Which turned out to be a year's supply of rancid meat.
